Hello fellow travelers. I am just sitting down to put together an earth-based theme team that I need to field Sunday. My buddies are fielding a water-themed team and a fire-themed team. Yes, I know, the fire guy is one lucky... Well, anyway, I'm wondering if folks have any suggestions. It's 300 points, so not much room here.
Currently, I'm leaning toward that moleman and moloid team I've been thinking about. It worries me to be that annoying, but these guys are friends and if you can't take advantage of your friends, what good are they.
So, I'm about to go check out what I can do with figures like Hellboy, Helfire Guard, Sandman, and the Demon. The idea here is evil folks from down under. No outwit, no fliers. Yikes!!
I can mix DC and Marvel for this battle, but I have no interest in mixing evil and good figures. If I go for good guys, then I think of the Thing, naturally, plus the Atom, Sandman (The vet version) Obsidian, and maybe Sgt. Rock, just to really stretch things out. Anyway, back to Battleplanner. If folks have ideas, I'd like to hear them.
Titanium Man
Iron Man
Iron Monger (would reccomend him though)
Diamond Lil (again, wouldnt reccomend)
Morlock
Manthing
Swamp Thing (though he could be argued for water too)
Great ideas!! Titanium Man. Yikes, I wish I had him. But, the idea of getting my old Iron Man out of retirement IS tempting. I've got the rookie Obsidian, I think, As for Jade, I think I do have one of her, I'll have to look through the pile. I've gotten behind in keeping up the old inventory. I'll go check it out. Thanks for the great ideas, folks.
P.S. By the way, can't use Swamp Thing or Man Thing, my buddy with the water theme team already has them picked.
OK, something went wrong and I have to retype all this. Sigh. Here goes.
Thank you, everybody, for your great ideas. Unfortunately, I couldn't follow any of it because it revealed deep holes in my otherwise quite large, if mostly old-school, collection of clicks. Since I didn't have the figures suggested, I went with a team that comes from underground:
U Adam Warlock, who was standing in for Son of Satan
V Hellboy
E Ghost Rider
two morlocks and a moloid.
If you recall, this was a three-way contest. My buddy who wanted a water-themed team didn't show. Some nonsense about work. Sheesh. However, my buddy who was supposed to do a fire-themed team did show. However, he built a weed-whacking them instead, in recognition of the other buddy's plan to use both Manthing and Swamp Thing.
I should say right now that the water-theme buddy is new to the game, so we basically let him decide what he want to play and go from there. So far, he's kicked our, well, you know what, and that's how it should be. This time, however, he was not there and I lost by eight points.
My buddy played this team. Sorry, I can' remember what versions they were. We were playing a 300-point game.
U Wolverine (A new one I hadn't see before.)
U Spiral
Mr. Freeze
Pyro
Archlight
Dr. Octopus
We were using a new map, at least for me. It has buildings on all four sides with a central area and lots of newspapers scattered around. The mistake I made, (By this, I mean the fatal mistake, not all the little ones we shouldn't dwell on), was in not killing Mr. Freeze right away. I thought about it. My buddy set him up in a central location and, with Adam Warlock, I had the range to put Hellboy right next to him on my second move. Listen well, my friends, kill Mr. Freeze ASAP. His barrier blocked all my attempts to get to him in a cautious manner. His stealth prevents any long-range attacks. Then, he took out my Ghost Rider with his FOUR clicks of damage on the final round. Sigh. My fault. I could have pulled Ghost Rider out of range, but was focused on keeping Adam Warlock alive, even though he was worth fewer points. Sigh, again. Plus, my buddy made excellent use of the elevating terrain, placing his Pyro up there and forcing me to push Ghost Rider to get out of range. Actually, my buddy is a great player. Don't tell him that, but it's true.
So, there you have it. I went down in defeat. However, it was close. In the hand of a someone more able, I think my team could have kicked. Thanks to everybody who offered advice. If I had follwed some of it, I might have won!!!!
