I recently got my Mimic Unique from a trade and I tooked at his dial and it is definitely an odd dial. I'm unsure how I would be playing this as welll as the odd combination of Leap/Climb + Flight.... odd...
Any suggestions on what I can do to make this an effective piece?
He is definitely a tricky/finesse piece; especially for 87 points.
He has a couple deficiencies that make him this way:
First, he only has 6 clicks of life, therefore he can't be used as a primary attacker.
Second, some of his powers don't work in conjunction with each other. Sometimes this isn't a problem, sometimes it is.
Furthermore, with his cost already on the high end considering his lifespan and abilities, adding Feats to him really doesn't reap a whole lot of benefit.
I think that one way to employ him in order to maximize his effectiveness is to use him as a side-gunner initially; then use him as a support fig with his TK and Barrier once he gets hit; when the mid-end game approaches, send him back into the battle while Soaring in order to use his Leap/Climb+Flight combo to clean up the remaining mess.
I'm sure that there are other strategies/tactics, but I think that this is about as straightforward as you can get...

I looked at his dial too. I think he is better as a display in your shelf rather than playing.
One thing to note though is he can soar (being a flying figure) and later if hurt gain leap climb while he can attack grounded figures. It's kinda like Divebomb withtout the -2 to the attack. He is the only figure who gains leap climb.

He can because the text description for Leap/Climb says that the figure with that power can make a Close Combat Attack on an opposing adjacent figure regardless of elevation. It's pretty self explanatory.
