I am looking into reading a new series of comics but do not know which one to start. I was thinking about New Avengers or Outsiders, I have heard from people they are both good. Any comments on them or any other comics series that might be good and explain why plz. Thanks
To rise out of mediocrity you must not be afraid to fail.
Runaways is another I enjoy (you can get caught up via Digest TPB's - 5 in all)
Y The Last Man (There are 5 TPB's to get caught up on).
Empire and Wanted are self-contained stories that can be picked up in TPB (both are very dark). Supreme Powers is a remake of Squadron Supreme. It is also as good as it is dark.
The latest run of Captain America has been pretty good.
New Avengers has been good but I'm not sure it'll stay that way once Civil War happens.
Outsiders started strong but has slipped in recent issues a big cause of that has been crossover with the Teen Titans (meh) and the whole Infinite Crisis. Once the one year later stuff happens it might pick back up.
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.
New Avengers has been good. I can see it getting better for a few more ishes and then dropping off like Bud said. But it's worth picking up the TPB's.
I've been reading more limited series' than ongoings recently but Books of Doom is bueno, X Statix presents Dead Girl is Mucho Bueno and the New Green Lantern ongoing is cool.
I couldn't get into outsiders.
Captain America is really good right now. The political carp that has plauged his mag is gone now, and he's back to doing what he does best (ie being the man who always gets the job done, without taking the low road). Brubaker and Epting are doing a really really good job on the title.
Conan continues to shine. It's a lot of sword and sorcery stuff, but I feel there hasn't been a bad issue yet. The art is always amazing, and the writing really captures a lot of Howard's settings and characters.
Inevitable Iron Man is definately the Iron Man title to be reading right now. The art is really funky, but it's back to basic heroics. It reads a TON better then Ellis' incredible heavy handed regular Iron Man title. If you like Iron Man, you'd like this mini series
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
Well not certain what you read, and assuming that you are old enough, to make these decisions for yourself.............
Outsiders started out good, but has been up and down since about the first 10 issues. Issue #34 might have been a good jumping on point, since it kicks off the OYL story for them, and issue #35 comes out this week. Personally, it's always on my "endangered species list," but I really like the characters, so I always hang on for one more issue.
If I had to drop a book between New Avengers and Outsiders, I would drop kick Outsiders without hesitation. I HATE Bendis' writing for the most part. But he does an excellent job on this book. The stories are sweet, and the characterizations and interactions are sweet. Plus the overall make up of the roster is not as boring as most of the previous teams.
JSA- This book is soooo good, it's not even funny. Even when Johns takes a break the writing stays at a high level of quality. The make up of the team is awesome, and the members are some of the coolest in any team book out there.
Squadron Supreme- This book just came out, and OMFG was the Supreme Power series awesome. Establishes the Squadron as a quality team instead of JLA rip-offs. Of course it will lose some of it's coarsness now that it's been downgraded from Marvel Max to Marvel Knights, but all indications are that it still going to be GREAT!
Astonishing X-Men- Easily the best X-title out there. Whedon is a great comic writer. He seems to bring the X-Men back to their roots, with a feshness not seen since Chris Claremont was a good X-Men writer 20-30 years ago, and he cares about the characters!
Teen Titans- When Johns is writing this books rocks the house. Might want to wait till the OYL stuff starts! The team is cool, the characters are great. They are more than just mini Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Flash drones. Each has established themselves as serious heroes in the DCU.
[u]Ultimates 2[/b] Great update on the Avengers. Better to get these in trades, and hope that when Loeb comes on for year 3, he doesn't destroy what Mark Millar has done.
I mostly enjoy team books, so that's why I mentioned those.

I'm in love with ### Exiles right now. It's ### concept of "What if", but with stable recurring characters.
I hate ### X-mens (not really, actually I like a litty ### Clremont Byrne run but I always see ### X-Men like ### teenagers in ### Marvel Universe, soory old 70's fan)
But I love Exiles! you can have any amazing story in each episode-comic book, they are ### Sliders of ### Marvel MULTiverse.
I'm reading Ultimates 2 now. It's not a new series (Issue 10 out now). But it's currently ### best book out there.
I haven't been reading Ultimate Fantastic Four, but did pick up ### 1st issue of ### "President Thor" line and ### last page has me hooked, atleast for this storyline.
Marvel Zombies is a mini series that is a fun diversion.
I'm not really diggin' All-Star Batman and Robin as much as I hoped, but I keep picking it up.
### 1st issues of Justice have been good, but they come out so infrequently.
I've got to say, Birds of Prey is consistantly very good - it's deffinatly my favorite book out there.
That said, New Avengers and Young Avengers have both been very enjoyable, as has pretty much everything Ultimates.
If you're not already reading DC, you might want to skirt the core books for a few months until all the Crisis stuff shakes out. It looks like you should be able to pick up Birds of Prey and JSA with no problem, but Nightwing won't make much sence if you haven't been following things, I suspect Superman will be the same.
