When I first looked at the preview for this book I thought the art didn't fit with what I had hoped for. After reading the book, I actually enjoyed it. The very cartoony nature of it while still being dark and haunting in some respects actually seem to work for me.
The story, well it's been so long since I read the novel that I couldn't remember too much of it so a lot of it was kinda new for me. In some ways this issue did do a good job of introducing the readers to some pretty far out there ideas and two intriguing characters (Jaffe in particular). On the other hand, the reader is thrown into the ideas of "the art" and "the quiddity" and forced to realize that it won't all be fully explained right from the start (although there's enough there to get you going).
Overall, I'm much more intrigued in reading this series than I was at the beginning after being so disappointed in the Dragonlance Chronicles series.

Liked the first Novel (not so much "Everville" though), but I'm just not into "adaptations", especially when most of Barker's to date have been dreadful. IMHO. Maybe I'll give it another look.
I love barker. haven't seen a huge amount of adaptations of his stuff. The ones of seen (The thief of always and some of the stories from the books of blood) have been pretty wicked. Will have to check it out.
Actually on that note has anyone else read the books of blood hardbacks? The had a couple of them second hand at this wierd comic book store in the city but i didn't have the money to buy them at the time and when i did finally have disposable income to do this they had dissapeared.

Issue 2 came out. Maybe it's just me but the book seems to be written as another backstory book (the narrative gave it that feeling for me) and I wasn't really expecting that out of issue 2. I wouldn't say I was disappointed though.
And is it just me or does the book seem to read really quickly? I don't know if it's a combination of large panels rather then more dialog driven stuff or the seeming lack of ads interrupting the story but I seemed to move through this book rather quickly.
Still enjoying the series so far though. Can't wait for things to pick up a bit.
