So I've been listening to the old Superman radio program at work for the past few weeks. In it, Superman does a number of things that we all associate with Superman, but upon reading the TPB Superman Chronicles, he wasn't doing in his own mag at the time.
For instance, since day one in his radio program, Superman flew, yet he can only leap in Action/Superman comics from the same years. He goes to work at the Daily Planet in the radio program vs the Daily Star in the comics.
So I'm curious to know some of the following;
1. What year did Superman begin flying in Action/Superman comics?
2. What year did Superman begin working at the Daily Planet in his own books (instead of the Daily Star)?
3. What year did Jimmy Olson first appear in the comics (he appears in the radio program first)?
4. What year did kryptonite first get used in the comics (it was first used on the radio, for what must be a month or so, as he fights villians with it, then an 'Atom Man' who shoots kryptonite radiation from his hands, and then faces it in a Cyclotron)?
5. What comic did Batman and Superman first team up in (the radio program bit says their first team up, on an actual adventure, was on the radio, as Batman shows up in the early-mid forties on a regular basis to help Superman out, or be saved by him)?
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
1. What year did Superman begin flying in Action/Superman comics?
I may be able to answer some of these later, but I'll start with this one: it's impossible to say.
Superman didn't just leap one issue and fly the next. Instead, Superman's leaping slowly evolved, becoming less and less like leaps and more and more like flight. For example, during he would jump and change course in the middle of his leap, but he still couldn't fly, just leap. Or would that be called flight anyway?
I did try to pin this down at one point in the past, but got only inconclusive results.
