I'm finally reading Crisis on Infinite Earths ( Yes I am ashamed, but there are multiple reasons for it, so ) and have read the first 3 issues so far. My question is, is the Green Lantern chosen by the Monitor John Stewart? If it is, I didn't realize he had been a GL for that long, since my first exposure to him was via the Justice League cartoon on Cartoon Network.
Thanks!

John's been around for quite a long time. At the time of the Crisis Hal had quit the Corps and John was Earth's GL. Another important GL event happens a little later in the series, but I won't spoil it.

That's one of two GL events, there's the time when John finds out his real father is Sinestro. Then, there's the part where Guy Gardner finds out he was John's son. It is a scary read.
I knew that as a character he had been around for awhile, but just not a GL.
Thanks again!
Don't forget to buy yourself a big tub of Ben Gay, in case Zod comes over, you'll need it for all the kneeling you'll be doing..... and perhaps a large vat of vaseline and a funnel
John Stewart's been around since 1972. You'd have to grown up before that time not to have him as a GL. Much as I respect him, the JL cartoon should've had Hal as the GL, even if that is less politically correct (or something...)

as for the JL cartoon, I didn't like John in that at all. Attitude bugged me, and I still dont' understand why they had to give him green eyes and why he never really did much with the ring, other then make bubbles and fly. Limited imagination there.

Yeah but according to issue 4 of COIE, he had just became Green Lantern.
I only read Hal stories growing up in the late 70's, 80's and early 90's; with regards to GL.

Yeah but according to issue 4 of COIE, he had just became Green Lantern.
He had just taken over in the role of the Green Lantern of Earth, taking over from Hal, but for an extensive period before that, John had been the back-up Green Lantern, for whenever Hal might not be available.
For example, there was a Christmas issue of JLoA, where Hal slips in the shower and hits his head. Consequently, Hal's ring goes and gets John Stewart who then gets to be the Green Lantern for this story.

Yeah, he slipped in the shower. we all know he dropped the soap, bent over to pick it up and Ollie Queen tried to take advantage of the situation, but miscalculated his thrusting power, and Hal banged his head into teh wall, knocking him out, and Ollie had Zatanna erase that part of Hal's memory.
