I haven't read alot of silver age Superman but i have been reading All-star Superman (love it ) My question is for all you silver age fans, just how silver age is this book?
I think it keeps the silver age tone very well; short, fun stories, without any of the darkness or moral ambiguity that seems to have crept into most every comic in the past 10 years or so.
"Blowing up the moon was a plot point. Blowing up the earth was a tempter tantrum" -- Keith Giffen
what steve says, that's pretty much how I feel. But only for All Star Superman. All Star Batman is really BAD. Nothing like having a little boy learn to eat rats to survive to ruin the feel of a comic... well, no, I take that back, that happened in (I think) issue 4, the comic started to be bad on page one of issue one.
All Star Supes is pretty good so far. It's got that nostalgia feel to it.

For a man who has written some of the greatest Batman stories ever, Frank Miller really dropped the ball on All Star Batman.
The art is really good, tho.

Oh, yeah, nothing against the art quality. It's a shame tho that it's wasted on these stories.
I've heard the only two females characters Frank Miller can write about are hookers and ex-hookers. This makes me really apprehensive about Batgirl being introduced to All-Star Batman.
My comic clerk keeps laughing at All stars Bats. He says that most people (like me) buy it for the total garbage that it is. It's so bad it's good kind of deal.
Well not really good... more like funny in a "this is not meant to be funny" way.
All Star Bat's stinks with it's story line so far. Batman seems to be more crazed then the reg DCU Joker. Makes me wonder what the All Star Joker will be like.
It's like an old Marvel "What The?" comic, where DC villans invaded "marble" comics books, their reason being that the DC universe heroes were worse then they could ever be, and in the joker's case, there was something about how suddenly, he has to wear lipstick, and people refer to him as the fairy prince of crime (or some such) funny read, but looking back at it now, and looking at AS Batman, it's looking to be true, the hero IS worse then any villan, not that AS Bat's has had any real villans yet. We shall see.
And, yeah, F Millar does seem to like to write about hookers and ex hookers, like Cat woman in teh "Dark Knight Returns" book. Weird guy, I think he has a fetish or something.
anyone here ever wonder just what tasted like chicken before chicken was invented? I mean, I hear Triceratops may have a DNA link to Turkey's, makes me wonder.
hmm, wonder what a kryptonian chicken taste like.
I don't really have a problem with a crazy Bats at this point..... the reason being, because it takes so long for the issues to come out, that I can't remember what the heck went on from one issue to the next. Same problem that ruined Secret War for me, and now appears to be killing Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk. I also think that this reminds me of the last of Loeb's Superman/Batman run. His stories weren't that good (understanably so, with the death of his son), but the delays made it agonizingly worse.
I think comic companies owe their customers some kind of explanation when this happens. It sucks to see them solicited on th website for a particular week, only to have them appear 2-3 months later.

All-Star Superman is great.
Actually, it's "#####" and "dead #####" to be more precise. Assuming it's Gail Simone's version of the joke you're using
And All-Star Superman is great. Really great. Actually makes the line worth having to me.
It's a shame more writers can't write single issue stories like in All-Star Superman. Instead they feel the need to use 6 issues for every story they write. Sometimes it's worth it, but sometimes spending half a year reading one story can be tedious, especially if most of it feels like filler (cough*Bendis*cough).
My only hope is that the Big Lebowski kills me before the Germans can cut my d### off.
but AS Batman has gone on for several issues and Bats has only now gotten to the cave, and dropped off the brat named Grayson... and left him with those tasty looking rats, yummy-yum-yum.
