Odin dies, Thor inherited his power.
Loki caused Ragnarok, and all things Asgardian, except Thor,
(and Bill I suppose) got wiped out.
Thor felt weary and had a rest.
Since then he hadn't been seen until his hammer landed on Earth a
couple of issues ago in Fantastic Four.
Someone (probably Don Blake) seems to have just claimed Mjolnir in
the most recent issue of Fantastic Four, so Thor will probably turn
up fairly soon in mainstream continuity.
The funny thing is, Donald Blake was actually Thor all along. Odin had punished him and sent him to live in a mortal body for hubris. When he found his hammer he just turned back into his normal self.
So, I wonder if Donald Blake is Thor's subconcious mind drifting back into our dimmension.
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
well... keep in mind all things asgardian didn't disappear, that includes the magics. So, maybe Thor came out of his sleep, but isn't at full power, and needed the magic's in his hammer to reclaim his birth-right (as it were). And as such, he was sort of trapped in the form of Donald Blake, or at least still had Don's resources (some cash hidden away somewhere or the like).
Thor went into a sleep? Wasn't he killed along with all the other gods at the end of Thor Disassembled when he stopped the loop of existence the Gods were trapped in?
Theres only one Return, and it ain't of the King, its of the Jedi.
Just wondering, am I the only one who perferred Thor on Earth, as either Don, Eric, or Jake as opposed to Thodin(Thor with the odin force) chilling in Asgard, fighting serpents and stuff? I just liked him slightly depowered fighting mortal enemies.
Death thunderer is akin to love making, it gets better each time.

Nope, he broke the loop then went to sleep. Sort of an OdinSleep, but it was Thor instead.

Mr_JTR is correct.
At the end of Thor: Disassembled, Thor decides he's tired, and needs rest. He becomes some sort of energy being and goes into a dormant state awash in the cosmos.
He can be seen in Beta Ray Bill's mini, Stormbreaker, as a whiterobed super being who brings Beta Ray back to life, and then heals him after his battle with Asteroth (Thor binds him to a mortal host on Earth, similar to how he was as Donald Blake/Jake Olson).

I thought he died at the end, havn't read that one for a while.
So when thor comes back during Civil War, will he been more powerful then he was before, or on the same level as he was before he died/went to sleep? It sounds like he got more powerful after disassembled.

If he came back at Disassembled power levels, he could crush an army of Earth's heros without to much problem.
I rather suspect, he will return similar to normal, and it will be explained away that he sacrificed all his power to recreate Asgard (although during Disassembled, there was a pannel that showed Odin marching along a trail, but then nothing came of it).

I think that's why he needs the hammer, it probably has most, if not all of the powers in it that are his by right.
Did they explain what happened to his hammer, or are we still waiting on that?
He used it to sever the skein that kept the Asgardians trapped in their cosmic loop, and then I think he dumped it.
In a recent FF event it falls through a number of dimmensions, and provides Dr Doom with his ticket out of Hell (Doom is fighting a bunch of demons and it comes ripping through Hell).
It crashed somewhere in Oklahoma, and I think the government quarentined it or something to that effect.
I know Doom showed up, attempting to lift it, but ended up melting some of his armor for his troubles. The Thing also tried to lift it, but couldn't.
