Quasar steals the show. Him and Nova are led by Drax to believe that if they are to evacuate the rest of the planet then they should take down Annihilus now, then it's over. The two go straight for Annihilus and the bug swats Nova down hard. Quasar gets inbetween Nova and Annihilius and in a matter of seconds, absorbs Quasar AND the Quantum Bands into his Cosmic Rod. Quasar's dead. Maybe....
during this Nova links the Worldmind to Annihilus and commands the Wave to attack itself stopping Annihilus in his tracks and letting the rest of the alien race to evacuate.
What's really nice is the back and forth between Quasar and Nova before they attack. Almost felt like Independence Day w/ Will Smith and Connick Jr. Quasar stole the show from Nova. While Nova was still brash, he finally catches on and learns from Quasar what it takes to be a hero. Is Quasar dead? There's no Quantum Bands.....so I'm still holding out hope. Also there's a bit about the Cosmic Rod not being able to manipulate organic matter. You be the judge of whether Wendell is dead or "Marvel Dead".
All in all a brilliant mini and once again- Annihilation is blowing Civil War out of the water. Good stuff. Grade: A
God dammit! I had a nagging feeling throughout this series that Quasar would die, I had just hoped I would've been wrong. Though, the story was pretty good. I think they just killed him so they wouldn't have to explain what happened to Ego, the Living Planet. But if Quasar died, is Ego dead as well?
They never explained the Ego thing......Joe Q just kinda swept that under the rug....however, someone had a very good explanation for that.....he just isn't connected to Marvel in any such way. Wanna hear it?
Back in the original Quasar series, Quasar visited the Dimension of Manifestations where he saw that entities could make dupes of themselves to represent them in lieu of where they should be at. Now during that series, Quasar became Anomaly (how he beat Maelstrom). So.....the reason Quasar has been able to seemingly go to planets without repercussions from absorbing Ego the Living Planet is that he visited the Dimension of Manifestations, made another Quasar/Anomaly and had that version be on planets where he couldn't....at least not until he figures out how to get rid of Ego....that explains how Annihilus' Cosmic Control Rod could "absorb" organic matter, much less the Quantum Bands....because it wasn't organic matter, it was just an energy simulcurum (sp?) from the Dimension in Wendell's stead.
Well, lets hope for both. Maybe becuase of Ego, Quasar turned into Nycos Aristedes, and his maifestation was just protecting the planet/Quasar from the Wave. Nah, that sounds a little crazy.
