Well I just wanna know if anybody here read it and how did he find it ... I love it since the Surfer is one of my favorite heroes and Moebius one of my favorite authors (and I don't even have to tell how Stan "The Man" Lee is great) but this story and mostly the way it's told differs a lot from most comics at the time (well at least it seems like it to me ...and don't forget it's almost 20 years old now)
So anybody ?
I missed Parabe the first time around, but Marvel reprinted it (about ten years ago?) and I picked it up then.
It was interesting to see the Surfer done in a very European style. Moebius' Galactus didn't look quite so ridiculous as Kirby's. It's pretty clear that Parabe doesn't take place in the Marvel Universe though!
Of course I bought the reprinted version too (I'm only 25 and I didn't even know Moeb' when Parable was first printed) ... now I guess he was the only European at the time that could get on with such cosmic beings as the Big G and the Surfer ... but I don't understand your comment about Kirby ('cause I'm a big fan of his late work (Fourth World kicks ###)) ... do you mean his art was awful on the first issues of the FF ?(to me indeed it was)
In some ways, Kirby's art is fantastic. He drew with a dynamism and an energy that nobody else in comics had, turning each page from a series of boring frames into something quite exciting.
But his character designs could often be ridiculous. Look at Galactus and his giant purple hat. What's up with that?
Infinity Abyss and Marvel : The End were funny (but cannot be compared with the Cosmic Cube Saga and Infinity Gauntlet as far as I'm concerned ) and I didn't read Samaritan ... I guess you already read the Infinity titles (Gauntlet, War and Crusade) ... Gosh I miss Captain Marvel so much (can't stand his son ...) BTW Starlin made an interesting cosmic saga for DC (art by Mike Mignola, featuring Supes, Bat, Lightray, Darkseid, Orion, Etrigan, and lots more ... title is Cosmic Odissey)
Might give it a try ... I'm a huge fan of Starlin after all ... there's also the TPB "Rebirth of Thanos" where you see him collecting the Soul Gems just before Infinity Gauntlet.

I loved Kirby's version, "hat" and all. If I was gonna gripe about any of it, it'd just be the big "G" on his chest. And even then, that was cleared up years later by Byrne when he pointed out that Galactus is seen by whatever race in different forms because of the minds of those races have to conceptualize his "being" and that's form he takes is the form they see and not teh "real" him. Which was once again touched upon in the recent FF story "Rising Storm" when Johnny temporarily had his sister's powers (and vice-verse) when Galactus turned him into a herald in order for him to see where some planets were hiding. This abilty gave Johnny the power to "see" Galactus in a more truer form.

Yep, I have read Rebirth and Thano's Quest before. Good story, as was the Gauntlet. After that, things went down hill with "War" and "Crusade".

Byrne is such a great author ... it's a smart explanation ...

Totally agree with that but I've got a special love for War because of the six-armed wire-cutter-web Spidey clone (in fact I hate most Spidey's clones storyline but I can't help loving this one, Scarlet Spider, and Venom(which isn't technically a clone I know ...)
