When asked if a new character would replace Thing in the Fantastic Four after he resigned himself to leave the country, the answer was maybe.
It's not the first time that the Thing has left the team; we'll see how it's handled this time. I think that one difference will be that superhero comics go for more iconic lineups since the late 90s, so weird teams that include characters like Medusa or many of the 80s Avengers may not be the way to go these days.
I suspect that the general public will be even less thrilled about "secretive superhuman conspiracies manipulating us all" than they were about "reckless vigilantes with secret identities".

I've seen it, this recent trend, as more like an attempt to bring back the 70's. Started with the return of Norman Osborn, but then you have chars like Cage and Iron Fist in their old attire a few years ago in that attempt to bring back "Heroes For Hire" after the whole "Onslaught" thing. And even recently, like Namor wearing that gaudy black outfit from the 70's .
