The 6 range kills his would-be dominance over the old Critical Mass version. That, and the "Rick Jones click" keep him from being the awesome offensive piece that he should be.
I must agree that the low range the Rick Jones click weakens his playablity quite a bit. Though I'll defend the Rick Jones click as being good for an activation click, it's placement in the middle, rather than the front, is awkward.
I don't mind the 6 range, and I think the Rick Jones click is great where it is. I would have liked to see some willpower at the end rather than ES/D, though. I find I get the best use out of him when he pushes off that first click; Running shot a couple times, rest, then outwit and charge in. Very fun piece.
I'm not quite sure where he gets the probability control from. It does explain where Korvac's went.
I don't understand Wizkids' obsession with giving all versions of Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell and Genis) heaping loads of Super Strength, as if they actually do have it, it's something they hardly ever use (at least not in the heroclix sense of picking up large objects and punching through walls), as they usually just blast at things from range. Having Mar-Vell here with lots of super strength and short range without incapacitate, pulse wave or energy explosion just doesn't feel right to me.
Love the activation click in the mid-late dial, though. Well clearly I don't love it, it hinders his usefulness a lot, but for accuracy it's highly appropriate; and as activation clicks go it's not so bad considering that it can fight for itself.
So I'm very happy with the Rick Jones click, not so happy about the strength over energy blast orientation.
Why are you guys complaining about a 9 attack, CCE and CR on a 'mortal' click? Look at some other guys with activation clicks (at the start no less, which takes some getting around) and compare them to this.
I love this figure since he has high stats. The powers are nice additions.
