So I was looking for some good issues with Doom in it, and I figured "Why not just ask my fellow Realmers?". So howabout it? Have any advised reads with Doom in it?
Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom "Triumph and Torment". One of the best, most nuanced takes on Doom that I've seen. Also beautiful Mignola artwork. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this one.
There was a Robocop III you know (so don't be racist)
Ohhhhh lordy. By far my favorite story for Doom as of late has been the "Unthinkable" arc. There is a great TPB of it, get up off your chair and go buy it. SOOOOO COOOL.

Y'know, I've heard this a few times now. I must get off my keister and actually pick this up. Two great characters and Mignola very rarely disappoints in my opinion.
Buy the Fantastic Four John Byrne TPBs. Doctor Doom appears a few times and is sinisterly evil and brilliant at the same time.
Secret Wars is also great for Doom at his best.
Pick up Uncanny X-Men #145 for another unique look at the good Doctor-- of course, this actually turned out to be a Doombot, but-- they are patterned after Victor's brain waves.
Brubaker's recent mini "Books of Doom" was great, I thought. Also going to second the "Triumph and Torment" and "Unthinkable" suggestions. Those are the ones that leap immediately to mind.
Well, besides the ones already mentioned - "Triumph and Torment" is a crowning Doom moment - there's also a "one-stop" shopping graphic novel for you. It's called "The Villainy of Doctor Doom" and it's a TPB collecting some of the better Doom stories, including such classic moments as Doom turning the Thing into Ben Grimm or when the FF realized Latveria's better with Doom in charge and helps him retake the country.
Doom is also pretty snazzy in "Fantastic Four vs. the X-Men" (collected in TPB form) which if you can ignore the X-Men is a solid Fantastic Four story.
"Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."

Do you have a price range? Punisher 29-30 should be at cons for $1 apiece, but they're decent enough. Lee and Kirby Fantastic Four 57-60, where he steals the Surfer's cosmic power? A little pricier. FF Annual 2 is the origin ($$$), but Byrne retold it during his masterpiece of a run, which you should make every effort to read.
What have you read so far? I hate that people are suggesting Unthinkable. It's new and accessible, so that's how all newbies are being exposed to the character. It won't stand the test of time, though. If you haven't read much Doom, and you liked this, I'm happy to tell you that most other stories were far better. I didn't finish Books of Doom, there were all kinds of inconsistencies that scared me off.
I remember seeing Triumph and Torment reprinted in the past year or so, probably as a regular-sized TPB. Does anyone else remember the details? The original is going to be murder to track down: I just checked Mile High, and they don't even have one for sale.

Some of the first Doom stories out of the Fantastic Four Essentials are great. FFE 1, 2 and 3 have some great stories.
Some of the best are were Doom and Reed Switch minds, Doom and Namor's first team up, and Doom stealing the Power Cosmic from a naive Silver Surfer. And you get to watch the buttons on his cape grow and grow!
Speaking of Namor and Doom, Marvel Super Villian team up is mostly just Doom and Namor.
One of my favorite Doom stories is from a Walt Simonson's run. I think it starts around 352. Doom and Reed have devices that send them seconds into the future. The two have a duel where they are advancing seconds ahead of each other.
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.
I want to state for the record that I've been a Doom fan for 15 years and as such hardly consider myself a Doom 'newbie', and reject the idea that only newbies liked Unthinkable. I've read alot of Fantastic Four, and in my opinion Waid's run was the best, with only Bryne's coming anywhere close after that. I'll admit that 'Unthinkable' isn't my favorite characterization of Doom--but it's a damn good story, and that's what was asked for.
As far as inconsistencies within 'Books of Doom'--the whole point of the story is that it's Doom telling the story from his own viewpoint; not that it's the objective truth of what happened. There's also more to it than that, but I'm not going to spoil it in order to tell you.
The Graphic Novel, "Emperor Doom" is also good. Basically Doom wins by using the Purple Man to turn all his enemies into his allies. He eventually just gets bored. It might be a little hard to find, but it's worth while. As are any of the What If? stories featuring Doom, especially the one where Doom is the Earth's main hero.
