This for now is a rumor.

Sony has got together and decided to halt production of the PS3 for now. They might bring it back later but for now, it's over. Blu-Ray is not a hit. Too many bugs from bringing it out waaaaay too early. The pricetag is way too much for the typical family. And basically, it's initially sold well but now..you can find them nowadays if you want.

Put it altogether and you have the halt to production.

This means the Wii and the X360 will be the consoles to get.


I can't prove it to you but this is something I learned today from another source. Take it or leave it.....and if it does happen to be announced, I thought all my Realms brethren should know. Interesting at the very least.......

Honestly, I'll believe it when it's announced. The thing is, I want to believe it. I really do. But I just can't do it because for all I know, someone is messing with you which in turn is messing with me since you posted it. So for now, list me as "skeptical".

The fact that there's nothing from THIS crowd of gamers...well, that tells you something.

Considering that it's generally the same ten people posting in this area, it tells me that...ten people don't have a PS3. And at least one of them is a Nintendork, so, really we're down to nine people.

But wouldnt the owners of PS3s be compelled to post a thread? Is it just that theres only one good game on it, and none that couldnt be achieved on a PS2?

Ive got a 360, so its not that Im biased towards Nintendo....Its just I hate Sony.

ReZ, seriously man: A comment about how the PS3 isn't achieving anything that the PS2 couldn't is incredibly LOLtastic coming from someone who pimps the Wii, a console who's BIGGEST GAME (Zelda) is running almost exactly the same on their last-gen console.

I own a PS2, and never posted a thread mainly because this is the site I go to to talk about Heroclix.


If I owned a PS3, I wouldn't post a thread about that on these forums either.

Not entirely true as I own one but just haven't felt compared to post a thread (nor do I post on the Wii thread; no XBox 360 here no matter how tempting "Dead Rising" looks to me). Honestly, I do feel they overpriced the PS3 - which is why I was going to be patient and wait it out, not because I couldn't afford but because I hate being "taken" - but my girlfriend really wanted me to have a special Christmas present and I can't say I don't appreciate it (I just cringe when people spend a lot on me; not one of those people that accepts gifts well but I digress...). It's a good system - I haven't had any problems with bugs yet *knocks on wood/skull* and the Sixaxis maneuvers for some games is kind-of fun (a bit annoying to learn at first as it surprised me but once I figured it out it has some fun potential). The biggest frustration with it would be the relative lack of games but I'm crossing my fingers that'll change. It's actually a fairly solid system overall with a lot of potential and I'm hoping it lives up to that.

Yeah, that's why all those commercials for FFVII that rocketed Playstation sales focused on the gameplay and not the amazing graphics for the time.

I'm not putting any stock into that rumor for right now, but that's not to say it isn't true.

It also wouldn't be wise for them to announce it at all publicly. They've got enough skeptics out there right now.

It also wouldn't be the first time they've halted production to do this, that, or the other. They halted production early in November, and a few months before that, to make some modifications to the systems and their assembly lines. Your friend may just have his hands on a miscommunication. Especially since Sony is still gearing up to release the PS3 in Europe in March.

I seriously doubt they're anywhere near a point where they would halt production. One of the reasons a move like Blu-Ray is so dangerous is because gathering your statistics on sales and production takes a lot of time, and you have a lot of countries to gather your stats from, not to mention you have to let the system sit on the shelf for X amount of time before you feel comfortable with the statistics you're getting.

It'll be late summer 2007 at the very EARLIEST for them to even consider a "pull the plug" maneuver.







And to step out of that subject:

Why are people wanting Sony to fail at this? I mean, I don't like the PS3 either. I don't like the price of the system. I know I don't like Blu-ray one damn bit. And I'm for damn sure that I don't like how a lot of my favorite titles are being kept over in Sony's court. That being said, a failure with their system isn't going to make any of that better. Sony isn't a console manufacturer. They're an entertainment system provider. Always have been, always will be. And that will continually and eternally be their stance on the way they make things. The PS2 and PS3 are prime examples. Them getting out of the console war isn't a good thing. They'll just turn right around and go back to doing what they do best. In the meantime, it'll just be Nintendo and Microsoft in it alone. I don't think I have to tell you how that'll end. And what of the games that are on the PS3? Well, those developers are spending an awful lot of time and money getting their games through development stages for the PS3. If the PS3 suddenly ceases to be, and their games don't sell, that could spell trouble for the games industry as a whole.

Does nobody remember the video game crash of the late 70's/early 80's?

Again, the PS3 failing would NOT be a good thing, I don't care how anti-Sony you are.
