I finally concede, now that Steve Rogers is dead, that Batman is the best hand-to-hand fighter in any comic universes (only until Steve's return, of course)

The feud of "who's a better fighter, Cap or Bats?" is finally over. Batman finally wins by default.

I still think Iron Fist could take Batman.

"Hey Krusticlese, next time I see you, I want you to smack me in the back of the head and remind me that noone is better then Batman."

I don't think so, Black Panther recently pwned him. I think it was in issue #2 of the Silent war or was it in the BP series?

In theory anybody that trained Batman would have a shot, in their prime, of besting Batman. However in his prime he may not be as good as them, but hes still mastered 8-20 other martial arts to pull from. Its all in determination and battle experience and application. Thats why people can argue Cap Batman because Cap was a pinacle of those things.

Why do people speak of Batman as though Karate Kid doesn't exist?

As a fan of both characters (and ignoring the propaganda laced JLA/Avengers miniseries) I would say its a dead heat. You'd obviously have to take them both out of costume and equipment, and you'd have a very close fight.

Or Shiva or Richard Dragon for that matter.

The reason Batman can take so many people (or cap taking for thast matter) is that they are popular. That and Batman brings a lot of firepower to the fight. hand to hand dragon, KK (but hes a duex ex machina for crying out loud), or the lovely Shiva could if Batman didn't have to win for the story.
