So after all this time of having a gold membership with xbox live, suddenly, it gets cancelled. Why?

So I call them up to ask them to reactivate it, right?
"I'm sorry, but you will have to create a new xbox live gamertag, and a new email address to use with this new account."

Nah, nah, nah, #### YOU Microsoft. You've now lost my business.
I apologize to those of you who have been playing with me thus far, but this just takes the cake. I can't even reactivate my old account, after verifying all of my personal info???? And on top of that, they want me to go make a new email address, that I'll never check at all, but likely will have to in order to be aware of subscription fees? Yeah, thanks but no thanks. I'm done. I'll monkey around with this a little bit more to see if I can fix this, but after that, I'm done. This is bull####.

Well, after long talks with Microsoft, here's the skinny.....
I had a credit card. I also, after 2 years, got a debit card.
Well, the credit card is what I used to create the Thawmus account about 3 years ago. But after this last year, I got rid of it. It expired this last November, and I haven't missed it.
So I've been using my debit card as a payment option instead.
Well, Microsoft never figured that out, so they continually attempted to charge my expired, canceled credit card until they were blue in the face, and then just removed my gold membership, and locked down my account.
I got transfered three times, each being a supervisor for the other guy, and none of them can unlock my account, so that I can pay for my gold membership. So they currently have filed an order with Microsoft's billing department, which is supposed to get back to me within 10 days.
Until then, I'm still on silver, so I can see when you guys are on, and chat with you, but there's no online play going on.
Frankly, I don't see what's so hard about it. They can see my 360, they can see my account, I've verified my information, and I have a payment option that they can verify works. Why can't I give them 50 bucks to have my account back? Why does this have to be such an incredible ####ing ordeal? It's their bull#### software that couldn't switch to the other payment option when the other didn't work. And they never notified me that this was going on, either, which makes me REAL happy.
I dunno, I really hope they get this fixed, because I'm not creating a new account. I'd get to lose all my saved games, achievements, everything, just because they suck. Not to mention get a new email address. No thank you.

That makes no sense... why would they cancel your account? Can they not give you a reason or explanation of what happened? I'd be pissed off too. When I got my 360 I had some trouble setting up my XBL account that I'd had on original Xbox but I called MS and they helped me out. I would hope they realize how attached people are to their gamertag and that "Make a new one" should be a last resort, not an initial solution. I hope you can get it all figured out... sounds like a pretty crappy situation.
I'm sure things will get straightened out. Microsoft may be bullheaded, but they're not [entirely] stupid. It really is a crappy situation though. If you have a billing problem, people in the billing department should be able to help you.
That makes no sense at all. If you CANCEL your account, you can use the same Gamertag to reactivate it at a later date. What's the difference here?
Personally, I'd scream at them until they fixed it. Don't tell me that there's no solution other than starting your entire 360 account from scratch.
Though, I had a similar situation happen with the State of NJ. They had a credit card and a debit card on file for me, with the credit card set as primary billable. I cancelled the card, forgot it was on this account, and when billing time came up their software couldn't cope with making the debit card my new billable source. Nor did they alert me that their was an issue. No, they just hit me with a $250 penalty fee for not paying my bills. Needless to say, they did not get this money. I straightened them out on that one REAL quick-like.
I just hope they let me keep this account. If I lose this account over this, it's going to be very painful using another name, email address, everything. So painful, that I might not do it.
So far, no calls have reached my phone, and I tried buying gold again this morning with no luck.

Yeah, I tried that. It doesn't work. Basically, their billing department put it on lockdown, so I can't even renew it.
Well, I'm sure it's just a matter of someone with authority freeing the account up, but you know how big business are. Some of these supervisors are like robots. They stick to the book and refuse to show any degree of humanity or free thought.
I presently have two active live accounts, a Gold and a Silver. The reason for this is because of a glitch in MS's live system I can't use my Gold account to post to the MS Forums because I signed up for both accounts with the same e-mail address. It's an issue with Windows Live but Windows Live refuses to acknowledge this.
I know it's a stretch but I think that's the problem with you as well. I lack the wherewithall to explain it but Live relies heavily on Windows Live. If you yell at them they will be able to fix it.
