TOP 10 TUESDAY
TOP 10 REASONS TO PLAY THE GAME
by THEBOLT
By now you’ve undoubtedly heard about the imminent release of the new marvel expansion set to HeroClix , Avengers. With this release, many changes are on the way and the game of HeroClix will be changed very dramatically. In this top ten, I will give you the top ten reasons to keep playing HeroClix .
These are the top ten reasons to keep playing HeroClix after Avengers is released
10. Modding
For those modders out there, sixty new sculpts per set should give them a larger variety in pieces of characters to use.
9. Merging
If the release of the Indy HeroClix set B.P.R.D. has shown us anything, it’s that HeroClix can be used in conjunction with other games such as horrorclix. With this innovative idea I would not be surprised to see more sets of its kind come out. And eventually pieces from the two games become playable together.
8. Character Cards
These are a great idea for newer players. This little card will contain everything one needs to know about their piece. For instance, each power that shows on the dial will be displayed on the card, making it easier to research the powers and not have to stop the game to look up what each power does. Of course this tactic will only be helpful in games that you have your team already built for. Also on these cards are short character bios so that you’re not sitting there thinking “who in the world is Iron Fist and why is he on the Spider-Man Allies team?” Another feature of these cards is a description for the new “White Power” which is also number seven on the countdown.
7. Unique Powers
Some characters will have a power that is unique to them. The details of the power can be found on the character card, and will be an interesting change to the game. For some veteran players who have every power/ability and team ability memorized, this will help to even out the playing field with newer players.
6. Collectability
With the release of avengers we will have as many as sixty different characters with a new sculpt for each character. This means that those collectors out there will have more to collect. These sculpts should also be nice to look at and will (hopefully) stop the sightings of such ugly sculpted characters as the new Martian Manhunter.
5. Value
With the elimination of experience level rings from characters, they are now being turned into common, uncommon, and rare. This should help both veterans and newer players to be able to decide what make good trades and what are more valuable. In addition, shops are more likely to carry and sell single characters as they will be more easily priced correctly. this should also make it easier to find "that one" you need to complete your team or collection.
4. Keywords
Each character going back to the very first HeroClix set of Marvel Infinity Challenge will be given a keyword. These keywords are what will now be used to make up theme teams rather than just the team symbol. It could also help to give a better idea of why a certain character has certain powers/abilities or team abilities.
3. Theme Teams
As mentioned above, keywords make theme teams easier to make. Theme teams also get a bonus thanks to the new “variation” on the old “rule of three”. What I mean is, for every three members of a theme team on your force, you get a free use of probability control for that game. This should help to make theme teams more common. I think that was the original intent of this game too. Not to have teams of superman, thanos, and darksied fighting against silver surfer, batman, brainiac, and lockjaw.
2. Retirement
With the release of this new set and every new set, older sets get retired from restricted play. What this means in this particular instance is that we will no longer see lockjaw carrying joker around and everyone on a force being “in contact” with an oracle most of them didn’t even know existed. Players will be forced to come up with more original ideas and big events like Wizard World will not have the same team/figure on almost all of the finalists.
1. HeroClix
This is still the game of HeroClix . The rules, face, and packaging might have changed a little bit, but the essence and core of the game is still there. Old pieces are not completely useless and so these new changes should not affect the game as much as some people think it will.
Very cool, nice to hear some positivity outta this. Sry to throw in negativity but having no art on the DC character cards will suck the life outta their purpose. I hope Wizkids can fix this before Justice League.
I really like the idea of seeing more comic book battles. I dont think I've ever seen (In tourneys) Batman go against his villians or Avengers go against MOE the list goes on its nice to see superhero/villan combat shift more towards the superhero/villian.
PS great pic Mr. Fixit needs a redo

Once again I say that I won't be completely happy until we've done every character in HeroClix.
However, I don't honestly understand why you included "collectability" on a list of reasons to keep playing the game. In my humblest of opinions, I'd argue the two are completely different.

I really don't think i have 10 reasons wqhy i Play heroclix but I really like this topic so i will put down as many as i can.
#1-It is a common interest i have with my son and there is nothing i love more than being with my kids. Heroclix has helped me bond and be close to my Son.
#2-Interacting with and meeting new people.
#3-The fun of collecting the figures
#4-Creating new teams and trying new Strategies
#5-Customizing figures (I am not super great at it but I like the figures I make)
#6-The game is just fun to play Especially when it is with themed teams and with scenarios.
#7-It gets me out of the house and is a great stress relief for me to play and hunt for figures.
Hopefully, this article will keep the doomsayer back. I can not wait for the new product to come out.

ROCK WARS TRIO WINNER: RUSH!
The advice of Neil Peart:
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose FREEWILL!
We will pay the price, but we will not count the cost
I'm not going to write some wacky counter-argument cos that's just silly and sounds like I want to discourage others to play.
Personally, I won't continue, but this is due to a specific single reason and not just because "Heroclix 2.0! DOOM!".
Basically I'd be happy with all the changes if it wasn't for the loss of the yellow/blue/red coloured rings and rookie/exp/vet system. Everything else is fine, and I'd love the new character cards, unique powers, sculpts, etc.
But the rings. The poor, retired rings. Heroclix is DEFINED by the rookie/exp/vet system. For me, it's precisely what separates it from other miniatures games, and what makes casual collecting more fun.
The reason I don't collect the Star Wars TMG is the very fact that there is only one copy of a character per set, and no rookie/exp/vet system. This system was what allowed previous designers to have so much creative fun with designing different versions of the same character, or different characters with the same appearance, or different stages in a character's lifetime, or the same character with different appearances.
It wont be lost its just for those characters who would unessisarily have an rev set we'll still have a 2 or 3 or maybe 4 of the characters with an extensive history

11. Socialization. Interact with other people with common interests. Great article. This will always be my #1 reason for playing and will apply no matter what changes/additions are done to the game.
I only started playing last year and have only seen 4 expansion sets. Aside from the oohs and aahs of seeing new characters and a remix of powers, there was never really anything fresh and new introduced after they brought in the feat cards, bfcs and special objects. I was worried that the game would eventually grow stale.
After reading the WK announcement regarding the character cards and the white powers, as well as the keywords for each character, I'm more excited to play the game than I ever have been.
