"You sure you need me for this?" asked Pip. Never the bravest of souls, Pip the Troll didn't want to teleport to the strange cave where he now found himself. But Thanos had insisted, and Pip was far more afraid of the Mad Titan.

"Aaagh!" screamed Pip, as a bat flew by.

"Silence, troll!" commanded Thanos as he grabbed Pip by the throat. Thanos considered silencing the troll's inane prattling forever and found the idea quite pleasant. But the troll's teleportation abilities were useful, so Thanos allowed the troll to live. For a little longer, any way.

Some unknown mastermind was plotting to steal the Infinity Gems, and the time had come for Thanos of Titan to take a direct hand in the matter. The clues uncovered by the Infinity Watch led to this cave, which the Masters of Evil had turned into an underground base.

Thanos laughed. He looked forward to showing these so-called "Masters" just how ridiculous their pretensions were.

"Looks like nobody's home," said a nervous Pip. The bats were creepy. The darkness was creepy. He just knew that the Masters of Evil were about to unleash some sort of terrifying deathtrap, and when that went down, Pip wanted to be millions of light years away. "How 'bout we come back another time, big guy?"

When he was younger and only beginning the long career of mayhem and destruction that would make his name feared throughout the universe, Thanos would have killed the troll without a thought. These days, however, Thanos allied himself with Adam Warlock and his cronies because it amused him to do so. Heroes always made such a tedious fuss about casual murder. How sad, mused Thanos, that they were unable to appreciate the awesome and delicate beauty of death.

Like Pip, Thanos knew that some sort of fiendish ambush lay in wait for them. (After all, a group that called themselves, "The Masters of Evil" could hardly do otherwise than to prepare fiendish ambushes for intruders.) No matter. They could not hope to stand against the power of Thanos.
