The guy who catches the ball donates back his prize package to Jim Thome's charity foundation AND gives back the ball to Jim Thome; just happy to be a part of baseball history.
Just re-watched the home run on WHitesox.com with the MLB video replay.
Seriously, if you have any inkling as a baseball fan, go watch the clip. What a great baseball moment, just as great as A-Rod's and the Big Hurt's; just more dramatic for it to be a game winning walk off homer.
Couldn't of happened to a nicer guy, a more deserving guy, a guy who (get this) plans to HAND DELIVER the home run ball to the Hall of Fame along with his dad (who brought tears to my eyes, him yelling "That's my boy, that's my son!" in the stands as Jim ran the bases.)
The call is from local television, so its the Sox broadcast team, and they had the stadium mics wired to capture the sound perfect. Nancy Faust, the Sox organist, fires up "Na Na Na Na (Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye)" just as the ball crosses over the wall; which is what she plays with every Home Run the Sox hit. He gets 3 curtain calls from the fans, he gets carried off by his teammates.
He even got a cell phone call from his 4 year old girl who was at home with the sniffles. "I made a special treat for you dad. Bannanas and cinnamon."
