Hector Hammond joins Karma and Mr. Mind in the ranks of Mind Control figures that are actually useful.
Hector, however, is more of a utility knife than a strict mind control figure. He's got a bunch of TK, Perplex, Outwit, and can Psychic Blast for the first five clicks of his dial! Just make sure his low and unprotected defense doesn't get him killed too soon.
That's a lot of points for someone that demands a taxi, has a lot of attack powers that will keep him in sight of the enemy, and just begs for help with defense. I can't give him four stars for all those vulnerabilities.
He's really the finesse figure of the set IMO. He can lead the field, and defend himself if aggressors come too close. He does need protection though. His squad HAS to keep the opposition tied up or he's easy pickin's.
My Royal Flush Gang just found a new comic accurate leader! Hector is one of the many employers of the gang, he's also the boss who built the original Ace robot! (Before that ace was just a guy in a suit) I play ace, king/queen and jack/ten with asylum joker to give the gang an 11 attack, and his son anarchy to put them in stealth. Hector now makes the gangs duo attack USEFUL. He can perplex their damage and later on outwit defenses so they can actually hit an opponent that has reducers!
As for the figure itself. He is WELL WORTH his 88 points. He is both a primary/secondary attacker being able to deal 3-4 penetrating damage from a rare 8 squares away. He also doubles as a perfect support piece with perplex, outwit and telekinesis! You worried about his defense? Use his perplex and sit him in hindering for an 18 defense! His 8 range means he probably wont have to move that often and it allows him to play as a board control piece. His attack values are wonderful for a piece that's less than 90 points. Mostly 9-10's. He drops to an 8av on his last click. This is a great piece...funny thing is I JUST discovered him. I would've been playing him with the gang the entire time. The new rules don't affect him that much because he can still outwit and perplex from 8 squares away which is still good. The new rules also allow him to use his mindcontrol with little to no penalty. I only wish he had a special allowing him to incapacitate four targets. He had the entirety of the JLA laying in hospital beds in comas!
I'm looking forward to pairing him with TDW019 Thor. Hector here will get a huge defensive boost, and can use TK and perplex to maximize Thor's abilities.
Absolutely should have the Society and Royal Flush Gang keywords and is permanently houseruled with them in all our games. Especially when there is only one figure of him and may never be another...
All his movement woes are taken care of! Thanks to the 2017 Rules change, he can TK himself. He still has no defences, but other than that he's still pretty good!
