I was recently informed that perplex only lasts for your turn, and that it is fruitless to boost a friendly characters defense value. This is the first I've heard of this, though I haven't been playing very long.
I asked my friend where it says this and he couldn't find it, I didn't feel like causing a ruckuss so I went with him.
Is this true:Perplex only lasts for your turn. Where can I find documentation on this?
PERPLEX (OPTIONAL): Once during your turn (but not during another action), as a free action this character modifies by +1 or –1 any combat value (including range) of a target character, including itself, until the end of the turn. ...
The "until the end of the turn" causes any combat values you Perplexed to revert to their original values at the end of your turn.

This is how perplex has always worked, and the only documentation you need is the PAC. It says right in the description of the perplex power: "once during your turn..this character modifies by +1 or -1 any combat value...until the end of the turn". End of the turn, not the round, and since you can only use perplex on your turn, as the power defines, it always ends on the turn it's used, AKA yours. So yes, perplexing up your defense is completely useless, in almost every conceivable situation.
That is why ICWO was such a big hit. Sure you could up your attack or damage value, but you could also up your defense value and it would last until your next turn.

You are going to use Energy Explosion on a group and do not want to hurt your character who is among them?
Haha! Ok, yes I am an Idiot. Didn't even look there.
Thank you very much.
Generally, when a question involves a power, the POWER card is a good place to start your search. Look there, then to the E&C, then post if the answer isn't there.
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
If you perplex someones DV down and successfully make an attack against them, the -1 to the DV is also gone. You can't hit them with another fig using the -1 to the DV.

Not entirely true... the attack must deal damage or cause the target to be healed in order for the Perplex to end as per the wording of the power.

Specifically it says "damaged" or healed.
So if Superman makes his imp roll he is still dealt damage but he isn't "damaged" so the -1 to defense when your next figure attacks him would still be there.
This is of coarse assuming that the wording of damaged means damage taken and not damage dealt. Love all those different types of damage
The easiest way to view it is that the effect of the Perplex ends as soon as the target's dial is clicked in either direction. Incap, MC, low B/C/F roll, a successful IMP roll, Protected (providing it doesn't result in pushing)and attacking with a figure that needs a critical hit to actually damage the target are all reasons a successful attack may not actually deal damage; thus allowing a reduced defense value to remain for the next attacker.
BTW, Supes dosn't get many IMP rolls anymore because his primary concern is Self Sacrifice.
BoT
I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries....now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.
