I am playing in a small community (about 10 people), and after the Galactus event there where 4 rooftop maps where handed out. So now every time there is a tournament, you would face the rooftop map at least one time. In the last game of the starro event, I was playing a team of: Batman (75 points), Zauriel (117), Creeper (45) and Bronze Tiger (60). Not a bad team, and I play it well so I under normal circumstance's I could win with this team. My oppenent played Superman (226) Firehawk (63) and played shrink. He won the the firstplayer roll and chose to play on the rooftop. At that point there was no game two of my figures(Creeper and Bronze Tiger) could never base superman, because he was flying in between the roofs and batman could not use any of his stealth or out of the shadow, so i lost the game before it began. The rooftop is played very often, because everybody borrows map from each other. So the consequence is that nobody want's to make a team with figure's like, Bronze tiger, 2099 Hulk, Aquaman and so on, because you can make such a team lose just by rolling the first player roll.
So is there no rules against playing the rooftop map?

If a map exists, there are no rules against playing it.
What I'd consider doing is balancing your team more, as in, have a flier/ranged fig/something on each and every team, rather than going with all one type of fig that can easily be thwarted by something as simple as a map. Much like how high-range figs die in Space, or how the Prison is so constricted, or how the Junkyard kills many a charger with that hindering strip. Besides, if you play a theme team, you get a good chance of choosing the map!
If you decide you want to get that rooftop map out of circulation, I'll trade well for it. We couldn't get one out here, and I'd kill to run my Marvel Knights on it.
So is there no rules against playing the rooftop map?
The only rule that limits map selection is that all maps in a tournament must be the same size - you cannot play two-player and four-player maps in the same tournament unless the four-player maps are cut down to two-player size. Other than that, any map availible is fair game, unless of course the judge says otherwise.
Keep in mind though that one of the bonuses of playing a keyword theme team is receiving a bonus to the map roll: That could help you avoid the rooftop map.
And what if you kept playing the Hellboy water map? Then everyone would want to play Aquaman!
If maps are just getting picked by other people, why aren't you ever picking them? If you're going about it correctly (dice roll for map choice), then the Rooftop map coming out should be a valid play. If you're just casually picking a map, then maybe you should assert yourself more and say, "That map won't make for a fun game, I'm just gonna die on it, can we choose one that'll make for a more interesting round?"
And last thing I'll say before anyone replies. I love how you run Bronze Tiger and Batman and then get upset when someone finds a map that can FINALLY slow them down. They're like 2 of the killer figs of the set, it's only fair they have SOME weakness.
Normally I would have balanced my team a bit more (with one flyer for every grounded figure) , but since it was a draft, I had no choice. I know that my team was good, but Batman and Bronze Tiger could also be stopped in the Danger Room. I think a well balanced team is boring, when it exclude grounded figures with no range and thats only because of the rooftop map, unless you make theme team.
Since the rules does allow the map, I will try to make a house rule against the Map. I hate that map!
There's one thing I haven't seen mentioned, as it seems that you may not be understanding this. All of your figures are able to walk between the different rooftops. The open air terrain only activates at the end of an action. Your non-flyers can simply move across he gap normally. Additionally, Zauriel is able to carry your other non-flyers when he moves.
I'm not a big fan of the rooftop map either. I wouldn't want a rule that it can't be played on, or anything that extreme, but at our venue we have Junkyard, Bank, Tank Battlefield, Outside of Daily Planet, and some indoors one. Those maps are all pretty well interchangeable. The rooftop map turns the match into a whole differant battle, putting alot of weight on fliers. I happen to be quite partial to playing Teen Titans, and if my only play options become Starfire, Dove, Green Lantern, Wonder Girl, Troia, and Superboy (with Dove being the only cheaper figure and the rest pretty point hefty for Titans), things rapidly grow stale. I like to switch things up and try out a differant combination of Titans, as often as possible. Playing on that rooftop map narrows my options, making the matches more repetative and less exciting.
I know. I know. I could play something other than Titans. But Titans is the title I've been reading religiously for basically 15 years, and the appeal of fielding the Teen Titans against the Avengers, Xmen, or Fantastic Four was what got me into the game. When I build a team, I look at names and sculpts, not dials.
I have had a few really fun Rooftop battles, but they were special matches. We did one on the rooftop map of King of the Mountain, where everyone had to build teams where every figure had to have Force Blast or Telekenesis somewhere on the dial, and it was a huge battle of pushing people off the tops of buildings. Pretty fun for a change. I guess variety's the spice of life.
PopularCollections takes your $ and delays shipping for months! They are called PC for a reason; everyone who rolls with them ends up wanting a re-do
Uhh uh? Ok. Well I see problems with your attitude immediately in this response.

Yea, and why you are at it, why don't you make a rule against figures with the letters n,r,s,t and the vowel e in their names.

Exactly!
You see heartcore, your problem is the fact that you seem to have a very linear approach to your game. Why didn't you just fly up Batman with Zauriel and outwit Supes HSS?? Why didn't you place object tokens strategically to allow for the best use of OotS?
I don't see a problem with the map. Sure, it does hurt some team types, but as already mentioned, many maps do. You have to learn to adapt and not just whine and say "BAN IT!!"

I'm working on a house rule against my figures taking damage from yours...
BoT
I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries....now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.
My favorite REAL house rules were at a venue that said:
1. HT U Batman (Kryptonite Gloves) will ALWAYS succeed in any attack roll against any Superman figure - after all, he has Kryptonite gloves!!!
2. IC Captain America REV does not need LOF to hit at range - after all, he can bounce his shield around corners, right???
3. Any figure with Super Strength can taxi any other figure - and the figure carried can take an action after being taxied - so, you want your Hercules to carry Thor and then Thor to do a RS while carrying Hercules and base your opponent with Hercules? Why not?
My first time there was quite an experience - I had built a team based on the actual rules of the game and ended up feeling a bit like Alice in Wonderland - or maybe Alex in Wonderland
Je Suis Charlie!
"Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." John Wesley
but as far as a regular map in the rotation i would prefer people didn't play with it in tournaments.
Also when i have used it i have warned players ahead of time that it was happening.
quit calling web tokens objects dammit, they cannot be carried and have no "unique game effect" they are nothing more then sculpted "Special" cardboard squares

Personally, I love the new rooftops map. My girlfriend and I plan on playing a 700 point Multiple Man vs Triplicate Girl battle on it once I get a couple more Madrii... though I fear that team of hers on that map once she gives all her girls Drag!
During one of the CoG events, I had to deal with a flyer sitting out there inbetween buildings. I had pulled Ares for that event so I played him and a pog as my team. At one point, Ares had to use his Tactics to up his speed just so he could move far enough to Charge the opposing figure (in open air)! Alas, Ares' attack missed! :disappoin He held up his little Wile E. Coyote "HELP!" sign, then fell to the ground below. But it was all in fun and I greatly enjoyed playing on that map. It's new and different and fun.
