I thought at one point that colossal figures did not require a break-away roll but normal characters still had to break away from colossal figures. However, reading in the rule-book and reading Starro's rules, I found nothing to back this up.
Break-Away only singles out Giants for special break-away rules. What's the deal with Colossal figures, and can someone give me a source for the answer? Thanks.

Break away is not covered under the general Colossal rules. Instead, it is case by case in each Colossal's specific rules set.
For example, from the Advanced Sentinel rules:
It breaks away from other characters automatically. Other characters adjacent to the Advanced Sentinel must attempt to break away normally.
And from the Galactus rules:
Galactus automatically breaks away from other characters, and other characters automatically break away from Galactus unless he has Plasticity. No break away involving Galactus deals damage.
Basically, if the character specific rules do not mention anything about auto-breakaway, the Colossal character must roll... and since Colossals are not Giants, they'd have to roll normal breakaway, too (4-6). Starro, since he doesn't have that part, would have to roll (unless there has been some forum ruling that hasn't made it into the E&C yet that I am not aware of).
Follow-up question: would colossals have to roll to break away from a barrier put up by somebody with Construct? I don't see why not but it seems very good.
You're good. But I'm magic!

The problem is that a lot of new players come from the "race generation" they want to define their worth by the "skill" they posses in playing a game of toy soldiers.

As normalview already discussed, unless something in the specific rules for the figure in question would prevent it, they would be subject to the effect just like any other figure.

Since the new Galactus, Spectre and Fin Fang Foom rules say they break away automaticaly, they are subject to the construct in the same way as figures with P/T, L/C or HSS are.
