New Warriors: Issue # 2

The Warriors stared witch equal measures of shock and defiance at the imposing alien towering above them on his pillar of earth and rock.
His voice, like colliding tectonic plates rang out across the park, assailing both their ears and minds.

"You have brought back Terrax the Tamer, and re-united him with his axe. For this, I must.... reward you!" A cold, alien smile crept across his broad face as the alien creature raised his glowing axe high above his head.

"Who the hell is this clown anyways?" Nova whispered out of the corner of his mouth. "I'm not sure" Vance replied, "But I've got a really baaaad feeling about this!"

"I guess you don't know who *you're* dealing with!" Night Thrasher shouted back. "We're the New Warriors, and we're not backing down from you, or anything else!"

"Yeah!" Nova joined in. "You want to pick a fight with us? We'll send you right back to Bedrock to Fred and Barney!"

A bemused smirk played upon the features of the creature once known as Tyros. "Fight you?" Again the gravelly laughter of the Tamer rang out. "Should I, the Master of all things Earth and Rock fight you? Even in my current state, the likes of you are dust to me, less than dust!
No, I have more important issues to address, old scores to settle and a terrible vengeance to mete out on the accursed Four who dared defy me!"

To underscore his point he raised his axe again and a pulse of blinding energy washed out across Central Park. "I may not possess the Power Cosmic at this moment, but the element of Earth still knows her master, and still serves me with obedience. Behold, little Earthlings, the might of Terrax the Tamer and rejoice in the knowledge that this shall be your last sight!"

Another tremor shook the park, tossing the Warriors to the ground as the earth itself split asunder. Massive, shambling shapes of stone and earth given life, form and a singular purpose by the elemental power of Terrax. The stone constructs tore themselves free from the soil and strode towards the Warriors, one of them towering above the trees of the park and eclipsing the sun with it's bulk.

As the Warriors fell back into a defensive position Terrax turned towards the city. Like a tidal wave the earth around him rose up and carried him towards his goal, carving out a path of destruction and leaving naught but devastation in his wake.

"Vengeance shall be mine, my rightful power shall be restored to me, and the cowering lapdog of my former Master shall taste my axe!" He roared. "Farewell little Earthlings, we shall NOT meet again!"

The stone-creatures continued their slow, methodical advance upon the Warriors, mindlessly commited to their total destruction. There could be no reasoning with this foe.

"So... what do we do now 'Thrash?" Vance asked, thankful that Dagger's light had managed to restore him to fighting form just in time.

"We do what we always do!" Thrasher replied. "Warriors, ATTACK!" "

Terrax's monsters set-up and turn 1a

Onlookers did not need the exhortation of any costumed heroes to get themselves to a relative degree of safety. The ground shook, the leaves in the trees trembled, and a deep rumble was audible as the creatures of earth and stone headed straight for the New Warriors. Anyone who witnessed the creation of these fearsome creatures ran away as fast as they could, leaving the heroes to deal with the unthinking golems.

New Warriors: Turn 1


"C'mon gang, let's ditch these slow-pokes and go chip that chump with the axe down a peg or two!" Nova yells, impatient to take off after Terrax. "No!" Dwayne puts his arm on Nova's shoulder and holds him back. "We have to deal with these things first. If we chase after Terrax they will just follow us and cause even more damage. We have to take them down here, where the risk of collateral damage will be minimal!"

Throwing a quick glance at the path of destruction Terrax has carved towards midtown Vance looks at his two fellow Warriors "Besides, I don't think tracking him down will be all that hard..."

free) "Warriors, you know the plan!" Dwayne shouts. Thrasher rolls for leadership, roll is: 6, apparently they do

1) "You sure this will work?" A worried Vance asks Dagger. "No" she replies without fear, "but we have to try!" Vance nods and focuses his telekinesis to push Dagger across the park towards their lumbering foes. Marvel Boy TK's Dagger to N3

2) "These creatures may be soul-less automatons, but perhabs my light can disturb the energy that animates them!" Putting conviction behind her words and action behind her thoughts Dagger moves to a clear firing position in N2 and opens fire! Dagger makes a running shot psychic blast at rock creature alpha from N2. 9 atk. vs 14 def. Needs a 5. Roll is: (2,3) for a 5 and a hit! (thank god for Hypertime defense values!) The creature takes 2 penetrating damage and Dagger will share her two IAP's with Vance equally.

The piercing blades of pure light leaps from Tandy's hands and strikes the lumbering creature square in the chest. Passing through its rocky exterior like water the blades punch through on the other side, trailing cosmic energy after them as it leaks like water through a sieve from the damaged creature!

3) "It worked!" Thrasher smiles under his mask. "Quick Nova, get us closer so we can help her out before they swarm her!" "You don't have to tell me that twice 'Thrash!" Nova grins, blasting off with Thrasher in one hand and a large boulder in the other. Nova picks up Thrasher and the HO in V11 and flies to O3. He places Thrasher in N4

And the game's afoot, with first blood to the Warriors!

Terrax's monsters turn 2a

Dagger's light blades left behind a gaping hole in one of the first advancing stone creatures. The creature paused for a moment and glanced down at its own 'chest,' which obviously contained no vital organs. What happened next was, however, like something from a horror movie: The earth and stone and slime, of which this creature was made, closed in upon the wound inflicted by Dagger. Soon, only a slight scar was perceptible. The creature looked back up at Dagger and looked determined to exact revenge.

With similarly obvious and single-minded purpose, the remaining stone creature conjured by Terrax the Tamer closed quickly in on the New Warriors. It was much larger than the first two, and possessed incredible strength. It easily tore a heavy wrought-iron park bench out of its moorings with hardly any effort.

New Warriors: Turn 2

free) "Don't be intimidated by their size! We can take them!" Night Thrasher tries to rally the Warriors. Leadership roll is: 3

1) "You're big, but you're not scaring me!" Night Thrasher grimly remarks, mainly to himself, as he tries duck under the arms of the colossus to get within it's reach. Night Thrasher rolls to break, roll is: 1, he's not going anywhere!

2) "May the light give me strength!" Dagger whispers, looking up at the enormous monster towering above her. Mustering up all her strength and courage she unleashes a massive blast of light directly at the head of the rocky titan. Dagger pushes to Psychic Blast the giant. 9 atk. vs 16 def. Needs a 7. Roll is: (6,1) for a 7 and just barely a hit! The creature takes 2 penetrating damage and Dagger takes one from the push.

The blinding missiles of pure light strikes true once again, blasting a hole clean through the misshapen face of the colossus. The gargantuan creature staggers and for a moment it almost looks like it's going to topple, but at the last moment the monster regains its balance...

Nova and Vance both clear

Terrax's monsters turn 3a

The two small creatures of stone kept up their advance, like a tectonic plate's unstoppable slide -- only much faster than that. One of the two tore a steel garbage can out of the ground and came to threaten the Night Thrasher from one side.

On the other side, Dagger had to rest; she was exhausted from her repeated attacks. She could only watch as the fearsome creature she struck first continued its, slow, inexorable approach. It flashed through Dagger's mind, that this monster did not need to have a humanoid form -- as it raised one of its fearsome limbs...

free) "Now! Move before they can strike, we're faster than them, make it count!" Night Thrasher rolls for leadership, roll is: 5, good job Dwayne!

1) "Hang in there guys, I'm coming!" Vance concentrates to levitate himself across the park, floating to P7

2) "Alright big guy, let's just see if just this once Rock can't beat rock!" Nova quickly snatches Dagger out of the jaws of danger before hurling himself directly at the titan! Nova picks up Dagger and charges to K4, placing Dagger in J5. 9 atk. vs 15 def. Needs a 6. Roll is: (5,6) for an 11 and a hit! The titan takes 2 after invulnerability and Nova's HO is destroyed!

With all the force and speed he can muster Nova flies straight at the towering titan, ducking under its clumsily grasping arms with ease. Without hesitating for a second Nova slams his heavy boulder directly into the already weakened face of the monster, knocking his massive head clean off its shoulders!
Shielding Dagger from the rain of razor-sharp shards with his own body Nova flies past the headless monster and gently drops Dagger off behind him. "Did you see that babe?" He grins, flexing his biceps. "Knocked it clean out of the park!"

3) "No need to hold back against these things, give them all you've got!" Night Thrasher shouts. Dwayne pulls out a thermite charge from a compartment in his armour and attatches it to the leg of the brute approaching him. 9 atk. vs 14 def. Needs a 5. Roll is: (4,4) for an 8 and a hit (Thank you knockback!) the creature takes 1 after toughness and is knocked back to N6. No pushing damage to Dwayne thanks to toughness.

With a hiss and a blast the thermite ignites, burning clean through the leg of the rocky monstrosity. Suddenly bereft of balance the creature stumbles backwards, flailing widely and nearly toppling over.

Terrax's monsters turn 4a

The creatures lashed out at the New Warriors, striking back in their attempt to obey their master, the master of earth and stone. Dust, dirt, and mud flew through the air; stones rained down around the creatures onto the grass of the park. The great strength of the stone monsters was obvious as they easily hurled a number of objects at the heroes. Marvel Boy was able to dodge the garbage can thrown by one of the creatures, and Dagger....




- Goliath attacks Dagger > AV7 vs DV15 > roll: 6+4=10 HIT. > Dagger's Super Senses roll: 6. HO destroyed.
- Solomabeta poushes and hurls the LO at Marvel Boy > AV10 vs DV16 +1 (hindering) > roll: 3+3=6 MISS. Solomabeta takes 1 pushing damage. LO destroyed.

Phew! Thank the Light for super-senses. I really would have hated to have Dagger pasted like that, as I get a feeling I'll REALLY need her in the next issue

New Warriors: Turn 4

The massive blow to the head of the titan had obviously staggered it, and at the last possible second Dagger threw up a dazzling shield of light and rolled to the side. Her radiance managed to slow and deflect the monstrous blow slightly, just enough for her to escape unscathed rather than being pounded straight into oblivion!

1) "It's weakening Marvel Boy!" Dagger calls out as she regains her breath. If we join our powers now we can stop it!" Dagger deftly regains her footing and unleashes another blinding burst of light at the colossus. Dagger shoots the titan with Psychic blast. 8 atk. vs 14 def. Needs a 6. Roll is: (3,1) for a 4 and a miss! With unexpected speed for something quite so large the titan snaps the ruined remains of his head to the side, avoiding Dagger's Light

2) "Sorry Dagger, it's getting a little crowded here! BACK OFF!" Vance yells at the nearest rock monster. Marvel Boy TK's the HO in O6 at rock monster beta. 8 atk. vs 13 def. Needs a 5. Roll is: (2,4) for a 6 and a hit! Rock monster beta takes 2 after toughness, the HO is destroyed and Vance takes 1 from the push.

"Throw junk at me will you? Well let's see how you like it!" Vance focuses his TK field on a nearby drinking fountain and tears it out of the ground with the sheer force of his mind. With a thought he hurls the massive object straight at the rock creature that attacked him, nearly taking off the arm of the beast in a shower of rock-shards and splinters. Feeling his head pounding as if about to explode under the strain Vance reaches up to his face and wipes away the stream of blood running from his nose...

Thrasher and Nova both clear
