By SHIELD001 (Originally by C-dog) Theme #15: Warrior
Sorry, no magic allowed…
Welcome to another edition of Competitive Keyword Theme Team Building, with SHIELD001. This week, we are going to deal with a Keyword that may bring back some peoples D&D memories. The good ol Warrior class... I mean Keyword...
I don't want to play a game of chess where dumb luck or money decides whether or not I get to use a rook... Collectibility is a necessary evil of Heroclix, not a boon.
Theme Team Rules
A quick recap here. Keyword Theme Teams have all the characters on the force sharing a single common Keyword among the Keywords listed on their character cards. The force must consist of at least 3 or more characters with the same Keyword, and at least one character for each 100 points.
Theme Teams give you several perks:
1) You may have one use of Probability Control per game per every 3 Keyword characters you play (you must give a token to the figure using PC when doing so, and he can’t be part of the action).
2) You add +X (X = the number of Keyword people on your team) to your dice roll to choose map/go first.
3) You may ignore one Battle Field Condition during the game.
Enough talking -
Since this article is about competitive Keyword Theme Teams I will only be doing 300 point teams for the most part.
Warrior’s Guild

Brunnhilde
Kraven the Spider
R V Raza
E Kang
Drax
E V Thor
Dr. Donald Blake

Team # 1 Restricted 299 points Map Bonus: 3
PC: 1
V Valkyrie + Lucky Break 76
Power Princess + Protected 117
R Kang + Armor Piercing + Lucky Break + Inside Information 106
I was surprised/forgot that Kang had the Warrior keyword. Thank you Hcrealms Units section . The idea is to Have Power Princess fly Valkyrie in to close combat. Don't forget that Valkyrie has a 6 range so you don't have to have Valkyrie base an opponent to attack with her. Kang's doble target Energy Explosion is great with Armor Piercing, just be careful the rest of your team don't get caught in the blast. I decided to give Kang Inside Information because I thought his Keywords were the most likely to show up on an opposing team.
BFC suggestions:
Restricted: Deep Shadows, TK-Strain, Inferno
Unrestricted: White Noise, Overconfidence, War Zone
Deep Shadows does not hurt the team too much, and it gives Kang a 20 def from range and the others a 19. (assumeing no anti-stealth TAs/Feats)
Team # 2 Restricted 298 points Map Bonus: 3
PC: 1
V Hawkman + Contingency Plan 147
(JL) Wonder Women 94
Shatterstar 57
This team is pretty straight forward. You should not have many problems getting the tokens on Contingency Plan with 1 JLA. Shatterstar is a decent harassment piece though you could swap him out for Ka-Zar and get some extra points for some more feats.
BFC suggestions:
Restricted: Deep Shadows, Shrunk, Loyalty,
Unrestricted: Disbanded, White Noise, War Zone
This team needs some defense against range attacks. Deep Shadows and Shrunk help out with that. With only JLA and the "useless by itself" X-men and JSA TA Disbanded does not hurt you. Loyalty forces the Wildcards to chose one TA and stick with it.
The Main Man does not ride alone with this build . Shining Knight and Azrael are just bodies to slow the enemy down while Lobo takes them out one by one. Don't forget Shining Knights Transporter Move and Attack ability, even if it seems like a long shot its always worth making the roll. You can also use her as a finisher when Lobo's bounty has just a few clicks left. (just remember to give the Main Man the credit ) Also, if you have the LE Kraven the Spider, he fits perfectly on to this team instead of R Azrael.
BFC suggestions:
Restricted: Deep Shadows, Inferno, Poor Teamwork, Malice, Loyalty Unrestricted: Disbanded, White Noise, War Zone
This team needs those BFCs that hurt opponent and slow him/her down, while not hurting Lobo.
Team# 4 Restricted 294 Map Bonus: 3
PC: 1

SR Shining Knight= 48 pts.
TOTAL= 294 pts.
The point of this team is to get into the fight quickly, and if needed, get away quickly too. Shining Knight will taxi your characters around.
BFC's: I would play Deep Shadows. It wont affect your characters. If it doesn't affect your opponents either, you should play Exhaustion, as most of your characters have Willpower on at least one slot on their dial.
General tips/strategy/reasoning:
A lot of people complain that Shining Knight stinks but I always saw her as a cheap taxi. This is especially true for Keyword teams. As always with teams with only 3 figures positioning carefully and patience are key to winning.
Well that’s it, thanks for reading. As always, please give me some feedback, any thoughts on how you’d make the teams better, specific examples would be great!
Next week we will be taking a look at the Hulk's other half, Scientist
If you have an idea for a team you can PM it to me and I will probably add it to the article.
You just have to follow this format:
•They must be legal Keyword Theme teams for the Keyword(s) I have picked (next weeks will be Scientist ). So all figs on the team must share a Keyword.
•The team must be 300 points or less.
•You must also tell me how you would use the team and what BFCs you would use with the team.
•Deadline is 12/13/07 before 3:00 pm (next thursday).
I will of course give you credit and rep you as well as post a link where others can rep you. Just see how I posted Ironman1994's team as an example.
Hope you enjoyed reading, see you next week.

Shatterstar 57
This team is pretty straight forward. You should not have many problems getting the tokens on Contingency Plan with 2 JLAers. Shatterstar is a decent harassment piece though you could swap him out for Ka-Zar and get some extra points for some more feats.
BFC suggestions:
Restricted: Deep Shadows, Shrunk, Loyalty, Resistance
Unrestricted: Disbanded, White Noise, War Zone
This team needs some defense against range attacks. Deep Shadows and Shrunk help out with that. Resistance prevents Hawkman and Wonder Women from being Outwited when they are next to each other. With only JLA and the "useless by itself" X-men TA Disbanded does not hurt you. Loyalty forces the Wildcards to chose one TA and stick with it.
This is not that far from the team I played in todays Floor event, just substitue Wonder Woman for Silver Savage (don't trust the Units section, he's a Warrior not a Ruler...)
Range is obviously an issue for them, but it didn't come up that much for me this week. My awful dice rolls did, but that doesn't make them a bad team...
"Also, if you have the LE Kraven the Spider, he fits perfectly on to this team instead of R Azrael."
I was wondering why you'd leave KTS on the bench...! He easily fits on so many teams, & is just so great for his cost. Did you shelve him 'cause he too popular?
The official "Make Capt. Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew" rep. All other Zoo Crew fans, get in line behind me. There’s plenty of room for all of us.
Nice post. Here's my Floor compliant Warrior team I came up with:
V Silver Savage (Mutations and Monsters) 96 pts. +Hold The Line 4 pts.
E Miek (Mutations and Monsters) 60 pts.
U Arkon (Sinister) 80 pts. +Contingency Plan 12 pts.
R Shining Knight (Justice League) 48 pts.
300 pts.
Got a nice ranged figure with Arkon who can dish out 4 damage at 8 range. Shining Knight as taxi again and Miek to round out the Floor requirements. And Contingency Plan to help with everybody's attack. Might even help those hail mary transporter attacks if it comes down to it.

Step one, remove Resistance from the BFC roster as it is absolutely useless for this build. V Hawkman is JSA and Wonder Woman is JLA.
Silver Savage
Shatterstar w/pounce
Shining Knight
Arkon w/Monster Hunter
The team was really fun to play. All my rolls with Silver Savage were terrible and he had 3 crit misses.
Arkon was my key figure, being the only one with range and Monster Hunter was great for taking down the two Devil Dinosaurs I went against.
Shatterstar with Pounce has great potential for the points and did the second highest amount of damage on my team.
"Come on Hulk! Where's the old boasting? The battle cries? Why aren't you bellowing about how you're 'the strongest one there is'? Could it be because... you know it's not true?"
"No. Because it's just too obvious."

Shatterstar is a much nicer Warrior to round out the Floor requirement than Miek.
The WildC.A.T.s Major KO's
1.Common Batman from Batman
Team #3 would be killer with Back Alley Brawl in play. Lobo gets +3 to hit his bounty, and him and Shining Knight get +2 to hit everyone else with the Transporter M&A.

You're good. But I'm magic!

The problem is that a lot of new players come from the "race generation" they want to define their worth by the "skill" they posses in playing a game of toy soldiers.
