In the current environment, with so many 5-6 click SP-laden figs tipping 110+ points, you'd think this piece would be arbitrarily more expensive. Thankfully, that's not the case. Actually, this guy is a highly reasonably priced utility figure. 63 points buying 5 straight clicks of perplex; 2 with Mastermind! NICE! Manipulate is great too, as I can't say how many times I've gotten leadership rolls to work but not needed the action ('clear off' turns). Nice way to have those not go to waste; it's not like it monopolizes a slot where Chief should have a different power; he's a normal guy in a wheelchair so the spectrum of attack powers wouldn't really fit. Add on 2 clicks of outwit, a click of support and the usually highly expensive Outsiders TA and this is one heck of a solid piece for 63 points.
A bit mystified by his consistently high AV though considering he's a crippled aging scientist and yet somehow his AV is higher and more stable than pieces like Bulleteer; and I think he maintains his 9AV for more straight clicks or at least as many as some bricks like Dragon Man...
On the sculpt, most wheelchair pieces thus far have been the staple 'hands on armrests and body sitting upright' position, but Chief's hands folded and leaning forward as if to show something has caught his interest is a subtle and appreciated variance. Lastly, that he is a wheelchair figure whose sculpt doesn't too badly obscure his dial like M&M Professor X's did, is also a BIG plus.
Chief is a really good support piece, his special abilities are really good! He may be quite hard to deliver damage to with his special Mastermind ability.
amazing support piece! he does most everything from outwit, perplex, and support and he can even prevent pushing! all for 60+ points when other support figs not nearly this good are around 100.
It's been my experience playing against him multiple times that the person using him never allows him to use that mastermind....so i end up going over to the poor cripple in the wheel chair and knocking his rear into KO status with one attack. So much for helping out his team! Ha ha
He's totally a support piece, but what a supporter! He's a medic for the wounded and can offer either an action advantage or psuedo-Willpower for the real attackers, offsetting his own lack of offense. He nerfs enemies with both Outsiders TA and Outwit. And finally, he boosts allies with Perplex. Basically, he makes any team a little better and the right pieces a LOT better.

9 times out of 10 putting Chief on your lineup, he will wield the title of MVP, and sometimes you won't even notice it till the end of the game... but man do you notice it. He just offers so much to a team for that point cost. If you can mitigate his low defense and keep him out of harm's way, this guy will be your star player. And even if your opponent does take the time to eliminate him, that's time wasted not taking out the team's big guns while you worrying about the man in the wheelchair.

It turns out chief is the toughest member of the doom patrol. the other day he took a pistol whipping and a fire blast in the back and still managed to take down two henchmen on his own! add on contingency plan and he's the best 75 points you'll ever spend. ever.

"what about spiders?"
"yeah, what about spiders!"
I wish the Doom Patrol didn't suck. Love the comic, hate the figs. I killed chief in one shot with a fig that dealt two damage (crit hit + knockback off elevated). <sigh>
@DaddyDoom I would say then, that you're probably using the figure wrong. He is a support piece.... he's not meant to be able to take a hit. That's why he has this awesomely modified mastermind. And besides.... your added damage on that attack exceeded your base damage.... that has nothing to do with the Chief and everything to do with luck.

Nope, I read correctly. Did you read any but my first line of what I posted.
Your damage added from a lucky dice roll against your opponent EXCEEDED your base damage. That has nothing to do with the figure's ability. A good dice roll is a good dice roll.
If you think he's so bad.... give him a try. I guarantee that if you're any good at all, he won't let you down. Shame your opponent wasn't using him correctly.
