Gathering a few opinions about what might bring some life back into HeroClix tournaments - while the Tin Soldier has been doing reasonably well, I think that it's definitely fair to say that addtendance and interest has dropped considerably in the last year and a half.
Here's an idea: LE figures as prizes, rather than LE cardboard. (Cardboard is fine as a participation prize that everyone gets.) Other than that, current and on-time prize support and fewer sealed games are my main concerns.

I'm kinda looking for specific ideas about how to get tournament attendance up in Australian venues (hopefully, including the ones I go to); thus the reason this was posted in the Australian subforum.
I'm actually rather surprised that any non-Australians read posts in this subforum!
But nevertheless, I'm sure that your opinion is shared by a few people, at least (especially those of us who don't have Planet Hulk prize support figures yet).
On time prize support is the biggest concern at the moment. It mightn't get us new players but it's been a big factor in us losing players I think and why clix is now as quiet as it is. This is a thing that should be able to be remedied too. We can't control how many people turn up to play and can't force everyone to not play cut throat but prize support is something that can be done better. Just recieved the planet hulk event dials for instance. Hard to make people feel happy about prizes when they don't remember why they're getting them. I voted for less sealed games too, just to allow people with lack of funds to play. Obviously less cut throat play would be a good thing so someone doesn't get overwhelmed for their first game and never come back.
I just don't see the point with playing a game with such a diverse background and flavour as Heroclix and such a massive pool of pieces to choose from to limit yourself to playing dupes or the same character over and over.
The thing that gets peeps to turn up though is large prize support. But one off tournaments not five week ones where if you miss one you can't win.......
Except big prizes get people in for that one big event but don't turn them into regular players. Plus, the bigger the prize the bigger the d**k some people become. I actually liked the idea that it was hard to come in and just win Galactus and Starro. We need events with participation prizes more often. That would get attendances up. People will rock up occasionally when the prize is worth it but a friendly atmosphere, good judge and welcoming group of guys is what turns them into regular players.

Yeah, I didn't think that the way SGC ran Starro Attacks was at all fair. I was essentially a two-man race after a certain point - so anybody else who really wanted that prize was discouraged from showing up at all on week five.
I think that if the fifth week had been run as yet another sealed there would have been three or four players, max. It was only because it changed to a constructed that most people came. Why pay $35 for a sealed tournament when you've got all the CURs already, there's no participation prize, and you have no chance of winning?
I think that it's cool to run a series of events where winning in the early weeks gives you an advantage in the final, but it should still be possible for anybody to win - or there's no point competing.

Ouch. Why, what did they do?? Now i understand Sgt Grimes' post if people were screwed out of having a chance at winning major prizes somehow. It shouldn't have really mattered how many of the earlier weeks you played. The starro heralds weren't that game breaking to give anyone a real advantage, and I don't think we got them till after everything was over and done with anyway.

The winner of the final week was the player with the best win/loss record over all five tournaments; additionally, winners of each weekly tournament got a bye in the first round.
That does make a difference, if you count total win/loss record. That's not real fair. Someone gets punished double for a bad pull one week. And then they take out someones last possible chance to turn things around by making the final constructed. I knew about the bye of course. We didn't have enough people for week 5 to have the bye make much of a difference. The person who won starro had been the best player during the 5 weeks and easily beat everyone else week 5 after pulling Superman.
