Battle for Foom - Sunday 27th April at Sydney Games Centre
Coming to Sydney Games Centre at the end of April is the much-anticipated BATTLE FOR FOOM, in which the grand prize is the immense alien dragon himself, Fin Fang Foom!
TOURNAMENT RULES
The Battle for Foom is a four round, 300 point tournament. All current tournament rules apply (see the Legion of Super Heroes rulebook and the HeroClix Tournament Rules Update). Please be on time for team registration at 12 noon.
Legal sets:
Marvel - Armour Wars, X-Men Danger Room, Sinister, Supernova, Days of Future Past, Marvel 2099, Avengers, Mutations and Monsters
DC - Collateral Damage, DC Giants, Green Lantern Corps, Origin, Legion of Super Heroes, Justice League, Crisis
Indy - City of Villains, Invincible, B.P.R.D.
Special Rule: Reinforcements
After the first game, you have the option of buying one booster (of any set) from the store. Characters in this booster can be used as Reinforcements.
Whenever a character on your force is KOd, you may immediately choose a lower-point character from your Reinforcements and place him in your starting zone.
GRAND PRIZE
The colossal purple-pants variant Fin Fang Foom figure will go to the winner of the tournament! There will be additional Limited Edition figures and cracked boosters for other players.
I didn't arrange it. I'm not even the judge; more like his publicist. The SGC doesn't have a judge every week; since Neil and Craig no longer do the honours, James H (Mr_Nobody) takes care of things when he's there, but his work precludes him from attending every Sunday. I can usually make it though, so I keep the lines of communication between judge/venue/other players open.
The store has a purple-pants Foom that they want to give away in a large event. I'm not sure under what auspices it was acquired (the venue has recently changed owners, and the new guys don't know) but I was under the impression that a bunch of Australian venues had one each.
Visitors to the SGC for this tournament are definitely welcome. I know that the Blacktown group usually plays on Sundays too, but if any of them are able to make the trip in to Burwood then we'd love to have the increased turnout!
Unfortunately yeah, we have an event scheduled for that sunday but i'll see whether anyone wants to head up there. I've got a few transportation problems at the moment and in WakandaMans position and damn near broke so I probably won't be able to get there. I do know a few other guys who would be keen to get Foom though so I'll spread the word.
The Foom is probably from the convention exclusive kit. UH has one too but Mike's keeping it for himself cause he thinks it looks cool. He did give away his store Galactus and Starro though so I can't fault him too much and is basically giving away the other convention stuff too from what I've seen.
I just don't see the point with playing a game with such a diverse background and flavour as Heroclix and such a massive pool of pieces to choose from to limit yourself to playing dupes or the same character over and over.

sorry but they're not for store owners to keep.......they're prize support even if the owner does think it looks cool
The Battle for Foom is this Sunday at the Sydney Games Centre in Burwood, from 12 noon!
Entry is $10, all of which will go towards cracked boosters to make up a prize pool. And of course there's also the prizes for first place (Fin Fang Foom), second place (LE Johnny Thunder) and third place (LE Protected) so that you know what you're competing for.
Remember that this is a restricted tournament (unretired sets only).
Some rules clarifications that have been discussed about the Special Rule: Reinforcements -
After the first game, you have the option of buying one booster (of any set) from the store.
This may be a retired set (e.g., IndyClix). Heck, if you really want to, buy a LOSH starter set!
.
Whenever a character on your force is KOd, you may immediately choose a lower-point character from your Reinforcements and place him in your starting zone.
A Reinforcements character does not receive any action tokens when they enter the game. If you KO one of your characters on your own turn (e.g., pushing damage) and you have any actions left, you may take actions with the Reinforcements character in the same turn.
If two or more of your characters are KOd in a single action, you may bring in a Reinforcements character for each one.
These characters do not count when determining whether your force is a thematic team or not. They do not provide you with a bonus to your map choice roll or extra uses of Probability Control. You may give a Reinforcements character an action token to activate one use of your thematic Probability Control.
Your opponent scores points normally for KOing a Reinforcements character.
If you have any other questions, please raise them here.
As regards reinforcements.
The Judge MUST witness the box opening, and will write the figures on your team sheet. Reinforcements not vetted by the judge will not be allowed.
Matt (Sgt_Grimes) who defeated Josh, James H, M.O.D.O.C., and Rachel with a team of Bronze Tiger, Green Flame (x3), Nick Fury, and Winter Soldier.
Second Place!
James H (Mr_Nobody), who defeated Adrian and M.O.D.O.C (but was defeated by Matt) with a Teen team of Dawnstar (x2), Robin, and... maybe a Klarion? I'm not sure.
Third Place!
Rachel, who received the bye in the first round, and then defeated M.O.D.O.C. Jnr and myself, and was only defeated by the champ, with a Mutant team of U Magneto (Armour Wars), E Multiple Man (x2), and R Tessa.
We had eleven players today, so there were five games going at any given time. The Warbound feat made a strong showing (myself, M.O.D.O.C., and Matt) but obviously wasn't enough all by itself; however, Matt's team with Warbound and Opportunist was extremely effective.
I came in fourth with two wins and two losses, but well over twelve hundred points. I ran a Mystical team of Dr. Alchemy, E Question, SR Scarlet Witch, and Shazam. Of my two losses, one was a narrow defeat to M.O.D.O.C. (just two points difference!), and one was a crushing defeat to Rachel (my luck utterly deserted me that round).
Some folks found that the Reinforcements they could use from their booster were very limited - many people only pulled one character who had a lower point cost than anything on their team. I was lucky in that I went with a booster of Sinister and pulled U Nick Fury, R Wingless Wizard, R MACH-1, and V Hydra Officer - all of whom were lower cost than at least one character on my force. Nick Fury brought me this close to victory in the third game... just one more click to Magneto would have done it! Oh well, these things happen.
Yeah the reinforcements were interesting.
Despite despairing about the sucktastic nature of my re-ins that rookie bulldozer actually won me my third round game against taasi.
Nick Fury and the rookie Wingless Wizard nearly allowed me to defeat Rachel even after Shazam critical missed and then pushed himself into oblivion, and Question was one-shotted.
