My friend is gonna play Fin Fang Foom and we were discussing if he would be stealth if he were mercenaried to a Bat TA and in hindering terrain. We are playing "house" rules. But i said that he can only be stealthed behind blocking terrain since he is a colossal. Can someone clear this up for us?
I would think he would be stealth if in hindering, giants are still stealth while standing in a shrub. Though he would have to have every part of his body in hindering. Second thought, read through his rule page, I believe it states that he is always in "clear" terrain no matter where he is standing.
Snarfery!
Experienced OMAC single handed Kills:
U Starman
U Sandman
Liberty Bell
E Dr Midnight
Mercenary 25 points*
Sets:Origin
Prerequisite: No Team Symbol
Before the beginning of the game’s first turn, choose a team ability possessed by a friendly character. The friendly character cannot be a wild card, and cannot possess a team ability that cannot be used by wild cards or possess a team ability that is granted by a feat. The character can use the chosen team ability when adjacent to a friendly character with that team ability and a higher point value.
*Minus 5 for each friendly character with the chosen team ability, minimum cost 10.
Errata:
• The Mercenary must be adjacent to a character that possesses the team ability – it is not enough for the Mercenary to be adjacent to a character using the team ability, like a Wildcard.
• In order to use the team ability, the Mercenary must begin its action adjacent to the higher point character.
So you'd need a Bat Ally with a higher point value than Foom
You would not be able to mercenary Foom to a stealth-mimicking TA. As per the Mercenary text (with my own emphasis):
The character can use the chosen team ability when adjacent to a friendly character with that team ability and a higher point value.
As the most expensive Batman Ally piece is only 500 points (World's Finest) you will not have a higher point value figure for Foom to be adjacent to in order to use the TA.
That restriction on Mercenary is often overlooked and really does limit the usefulness of the feat in general.

While I do not have the rules on me, I believe all colossals have essentially the same phrase that, when they are targetted by ranged attacks, they are always treated as in clear terrain
Never mind the no feats and no Batman Ally of higher points than Foom (not even WF)
Yeah, people need to read what someone posts before they post
As to the TS: since you are using 'house rules' anyway, you can make it whatever you want. However, Blocking Terrain wouldn't give you Stealth anyway, I think you meant Hindering Terrain. I'd say that if you are 'house ruling' him, that if he is in/behind hindering terrain, and he gets the Batman TA, then he should get the Stealth.
Ouch, Foom with Stealth, brutal. Considering he sees through Stealth himself, and ignores so many powers.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
But he didn't say what they were. It could have been "Foom can have feats". That still wouldn't make all feats "legal".
All the responses in this thread could have been "House rules dude. Whatever you want it to be."
But that wouldn't have been much help now would it
Without knowing what the "house rules" are everyone has listed all the reasons it wouldn't work. Only the OP knows what things will be different with his House Rules.

Well, not trying to 'argue' with you but from the TS original post I think it would be reasonable to deduce 2 things:
1) Foom can have feats.
2) Foom can use the Mercenary Feat regardless of the 'higher point figure' stipulation on the card.
Otherwise, why would he post to ask specific questions about those?

sorry. to clarify we are saying that Foom can use feats but they have to be used how they are designed so i guess he can't use merc. WF is half his pts so....yeah. so how does hindering and blocking work with foom?

Would his entire base have to be in hindering to be stealthed or just half or how much?

OK, so then he can't use the Merc. feat card.
As far as Hindering and Blocking go:
Hindering is a Bush, Object, Broken Wall etc. To be able to use it, you have to be behind it, or on it. The whole base has to be on it. So a double base, or Colossal figure would have to have it's entire base on/behind the terrain to get the Stealth.
Blocking Terrain completely Blocks the figure off IE a wall. So they are not Stealthed, just behind the obstacle.

Because they missed that part? But really, the point restriction of feats like Sidekick, Mercenary and Warbound are about the most common mistakes people make with feats.

Basically any square of him that's not in hindering is not stealthed (unless the LOF crosses through another square of hindering).
With the WF, this will come up often enough that it should be mentioned.... multi-based figures only get the hindering bonus (including stealth) if every square that can be targeted is in hindering... and square of them you can draw LOF to that doesn't cross hindering is exposed.
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????
