Ok, I am going to vent a little. I am a huge Spider-Man fan. I mean, huge. I have a spider-man themed basement, a spider-man themed wardrobe from my college days, I even have a spider-man tattoo. I learned to read on Spider-Man comics, I own every issue of ASM from 1983 to this past issue. I have stayed there and supported ASM thru the good times, the bad times, and the what the heck was that times? I loved it, it was really a great stress relief to me. But now, reading ASM brings me nothing but anger and outrage. I hate, HATE Brand New Day. I followed a story for over 20 years and it was just flushed down the toilet and replaced with this happy go lucky, simplistic, piece of shlock. The whole marvel universe is in this serious mess with secret invasion, no one knows who to trust, Tony Stark is nuts with shield, Captain America is dead, and the Phalanx might come down and invade, and Spidey's biggest problem? He has no money. He is not even in the freakin universe, they writers even say no one knows who spider-man is, so his past relationships with Black Cat, Human Torch, Daredevil, all the Avengers means almost nothing!! Why would they even let Spidey in the New Avengers when they are worried about a skrull invasion if he is the only one they have never seen unmasked?
The stories they are writing for ASM now are fine, if it was All-Star Spider-Man, I would be fine with it, but what about all the fans who followed the real story for so long, and were finally getting to some real character development. Aunt May dead, Peter confronting people about being Spider-Man(the one scene with him and JJJ was great), maybe spider-man becomes registered, maybe he does something else, but at least he would be in the real Marvel Universe! He made a freaking Joke about Captain America being dead in one of the BND issues. After Civil War, which still happened, there is no way Spider-Man would make a joke about Steve being dead! Its like they cloned Peter and replaced his brain with Nicholas Hammond!
I was trying to just get over it and enjoy my favorite comic hero, but I cannot, there are so many things wrong with the book, and it doesn't fit in to the what is going on now in the Marvel Universe anywhere, it just made me more and more upset, and if I am getting upset reading comic books, then its time to go. So, for the first time in 25 years I will not be buying ASM and I am a little upset about that.
Is anyone else having these issues, is anyone else reading this stuff? I see all those letter page letters with people saying they are praising the new direction, but I just wanna sit down and ask them what the bloody hell are you reading? I don't begrudge anyone their opinions, cause its their opinion and god bless, but can someone really defend this decesion as the right one and tell me its better then continuing the real story in the real marvel universe? I can't ask them those questions, so I am asking you, my fellow realmsers who are reading it, or who stopped reading it. What do you really think of this new/old spider-man.

I'm very neutral about this new Spider-Man. I've been reading Spider-Man since 1992, and I too have been through the bad, and worse. There hasn't been a good Spider-Man run since the mid-80s. I thought JMS' Spider-Man was out of character, and the one now is errily too happy-go-lucky. But I'll still read him because I still like the character, and I'm still hoping someone will come along and write him decently [at least for a long while]...thankfully there's Ultimate Spider-Man.
I run HeroClix tournaments at Shuffle and Cut in La Habra, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.
I agree that there hasn't been a great spidey run in a long, long time. JMS was ok on somethings, but at least the character still felt like Spider-Man(well at least at the beginning of his run). This new one just feels like a completely different character that doesn't fit anywhere in this marvel universe.
But, I agree, Ultimate Spider-Man is still very good.

I’ve been collecting Fantastic Four for 30 plus years and am only missing four issues (not bragging). I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs, but I’ve hung with it because I’ve found things usually straighten back out eventually. I’m sure that Marvel will put things right for Spiderman too.
Let me find the strength to cut back on this game!

While I am not as big a Fantasit Four Fan as you seem to be, I am pretty sure that Marvel never said.
"Yeah, Sue, she never existed, she was never on the space ship that gave them their powers. Shes just gone, no reason given, she's not important, Reed is much exciting as a bachelor! And believe us, this is what you really want, you just don't know it."
If they pulled something like that on the FF, it would be pretty hard to hang with it, but I understand what you are saying. Just trying to put it into context for you, at least the way I am feeling about it.

I just don't buy that people are really up on Brand New Day like Marvel keeps saying they are. You know how I judge if people are happy with the new direction a book takes? My local comic book store. I've been shoping there for fourteen years and I know the owner well. When he tells me Amazing Spider-man sales went down by more than 50% immediately after One More Day and every week he's got a large, untouched stack of Brand New Day issues that he doesn't know what to do with, well let's just say I'm more inclined to look at that as proof that people aren't happy with Joe Q's version of Spidey than I am anything that's in a Marvel press release.
I'm a big Spidey fan too, and I have a long run of ASM too, but I just can't support what's going on now. I'll stick with Ultimate Spider-man and just hope somebody has the sense to fix regular 616 Spidey eventually. I'm also taking the money I would be spending on 3 Spidey titles a month and spending it on old school Spidey back issues, which I'm enjoying quite a lot.
Also, I don't know if you read it, but Amazing Spider-girl has a great silver age Spidey feel to it. Heavy on character, fun villians, no decompression, always enjoyable to read and Peter and MJ are still married and Mephisto free.

I don't currently read that title, but thanks for the heads up on it, I might just pick it up. Thanks.

Once again I say that I won't be completely happy until we've done every character in HeroClix.
I too have been a Spidey fan for most of my 38 year life..And I have never been so disappointed with the direction of the book..I gave it every chance I can..But I find the stories silly..The new villains pointless..And his whole attitude out of place..If you are going to change the icon, at least keep some of the regular faces..No familiar villains except Harry Osbourne who is his friend again..This week will be the first issue I do not buy since I once stopped collecting all together..For more than 10 years I have bought every Spidey book that has come out except for the Ultimate and Spider Girl..And now I sadly give it up..It will be a sad day in my home tomorrow when I return without an available Spider Man comic..Oh well, we must all move on I guess
The only Spidey I read anymore is New Avengers. I know the focus isn't soley on Spiodey in that book, but at least One Day More hadsn't seemed to effect anything there (Because the mind boggles as to what they would have to do with his relationship with every member of the NA). So to me, Spidey in NA is the one I knew growing up without all the One Day rubbish. Hope that helps.
