HCR Rates The Movies Is Back! Come and share your thoughts on a TON of films, new and old! Our latest movie - BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
I've already written a review on facebook, so i'll just say this: One of the best superhero films ever made. Best in Marvel, right up there with X2 and Spider-Man 2 and best origin story, right next to Batman Begins.
The movie gets a 9, but the part after the credits brings it up to a 9.5/10.
Iron Man freakin' rocks. The acting is top notch, the action was entertaining, special effects were incredible and the humor was just spot on. This film will be thrust upon the "greats" of comic book movies as it should be. While being the best is subjective, I imagine the majority of fans will put this movie in the upper tier of those films.
9.75/10. The only possible negative for me was Jarvis. Not that I didn't think he was cool or even funny but they turned him into a computer program. In retrospect, I'd prefer an actual person and given the A.I. another persona but oh well, very trivial but something that I will always think about.
Iron Man is good but not 9 out of 10 good. In 50 years people aren't going to be hunting down Iron Man and watching classic editions. It was a fun time at the theatre without a doubt, and the acting was outstanding for this type of film but it didn't do nearly enough for me to be rated alongside 9 out of 10 films like Raiders of The Lost Ark, Jaws or Vertigo.
That said I did thoroughly enjoy it and I have to say that it is one of the best Marvel comics movies to date. I will buy it for sure and I will be there opening day for the sequel.
Entertaining film. Pretty good acting. Action was all-around.
However, where's the style? Where's the artistic value the film contributes? Spider-Man has that theme of identity going with Norman Osborn and his collection of masks. Batman Begins has fear and the Dark Knight will have escalation and whatnot.
I'm having trouble determining the value Iron Man provides artistically - as being a film, it must do. This is the only thing that detracts from it. There are some interesting camera angles, but nothing to support a major theme as far as I can tell. Maybe the sequels will deal with Tony's alcoholism, which could be an interesting situation.
8.98 out of ten.
Eh . . .
I have no sekrets, I just am.

It's kind of a political statement about our policy in the Middle East, providing weapons to people who end up using them against us.
I totally agree with lensnart.
The movie didn't do anything wrong, it was highly entertaining, it was humorous, action and effects were great, it didn't have the huge inconsistencies similar movies often tend to have, I'll maybe even go see it a second time and will consider getting the dvd.
Still it was no masterpiece, just a (very good) execution of existing standards.

Eh, that's not quite enough. You have Batman Begins establishing themes like fear and using film to create nightmares through the imagery of the Scarecrow's fear toxins. You also have recurring themes of justice between R'as and Batman.
With Spider-Man, you have the theme of identity which actually displays itself well in all three movies: Is Spider-Man Peter Parker or is Peter Parker Spider-Man? This is done well in the first one with Willem Dafoe's discovery of his evil side in the roomful of masks and the mirror of his evil self. In the sequel you have Peter Parker struggling to live a modest and normal life while still balancing his super hero persona. In Spider-Man 3, you've got the addiction of the suit versus what Peter actually has to do.
With Iron Man . . . there's witty dialogue, excellent action sequences, character development, no loose plot really, but it's mostly substance. I like it a lot, but it just doesn't scream: perfect like Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door does or It's A Wonderful Life also accomplishes.

But seriously, I try to maintain an echelon of the movies I rank. Iron Man is above most of the movies I've rated less than 8.98, but below the movies I've rated higher. It makes sense to my methodical madness . . .

Loved it and it's definitely the best comics-based film ever, and just great anyway. However, it's not getting the same mark some truly amazing films (9/10)
I'll give it an 8. Not because I didn't like it (because I enjoyed it) but because I want to watch it on video and see how it is after a cooling down period. I want to see if it is as good as I remember. If it holds up I will add a point or something. If it does not then points will be shaved.... until then? 8
Yes, but you're a surrealist! I'm a normal guy!
Gil Zoo Crew or bust!
Personally, I honestly Loved this film (and hardly due to hype, as Im not a huge Iron Man fan at all). I thought this was a fantastic film in really every aspect, one that held my interest with great acting, plot, story, pacing, and style, while wowing me with awesome affects and cool action scenes (see Michael Bay, THIS is how to make a big budget summer film with BOTH story and action - make note for Transformers 2). I honestly dont have anything bad to say about this movie at all, and its easily one of the best comic book movies I have ever seen (up there with X2, Superman The Movie and SpiderMan). And the special, after credits ending, well that just took the cake there. Awesome film, and I cant wait for Part 2 with a Mandarin appearance to come out.
Iron Man - 9.25 (extra .25 for the surprise ending) / 10
