I heard a bit about Batman R.I.P. I have seen a checklist on what comics it will crossing over in. I notice that Batman and the Outsiders will be included amongst the Batman R.I.P. crossovers. I currently reading it but no other Batman comics. I have been a little bit curious about Batman R.I.P. and who dies. I am wondering do you think it will worth while to collect the whole thing or should I just collect Outsiders, Batman and Detective and skip Robin and Nightwing? I don't know how Batman crossovers work. Is there a main story in the main comics? Do Robin usually affect the main story or does it show just how it affects them or their POV? I am just want to hear what other people think before I make up my mind completely.
If the last Bat-run crossover is any indicator, the ancillary tie-ins are important to the larger narrative. Buying the trades will save you money in the long run, but require that you avoid forums, like this one, as not to be exposed to spoilers.

I get Batman, Detective, and Nightwing so I figure that I am set.
BTW, when did Spoiler come back from the dead? Is this for real???

Dearthquaker, I'm in the same situation, currently only reading Batman & the Outsiders. There's no way I'm going to jump on board the other titles, so I'll just catch the splash directly in that series and not worry about avoiding the info.
It's all supposition at this point as Morrison has kept a pretty tight lid on it all, but the previews seem to suggest that something goes extremely bad for Batman/Bruce Wayne. "Batman" looks like it deals with his experiences, while the satellite titles seem to deal with the fallout, with the characters alternately searching for Batman or trying to replace him.
Detective, however, has the "Return of Hush" story running through all of this, and no one's sure how it connects with the other titles.
I don't think it's as straightforward a story as "Ressurection of R'as Al Ghul" was last year, when all the titles in sequence continued from one to the other.
IGN: Solicitations hit earlier this week, and there were a number of Batman RIP tie-ins across the other Batman books. How is the story going to work with the other titles?
Morrison: I have no idea. [laughs] This is the same story I've been telling for the last two years, and this just happens to be the last part of it. But people really responded to it, and the sales on the Batman titles went through the roof with the first issue of RIP. So quite clearly DC took one look at that and said let's put some branding on the other Bat titles. But I believe those titles are dealing with the impact of Batman being missing during RIP. But there are no specific crossovers with my story. They're kind of falling in line, because obviously this all takes place in the same universe, so we're seeing how the other characters react. If you follow those characters, then you'll see how they're reacting to Batman's disappearance. But there's no story content that needs to be read other than the six issues.
came back in last week's issue of Robin. Apparently Dr. Thompkins just faked her death so Steph could get out of the crime fighting game for a bit.
A much more reasonable retcon than the Jason Todd debacle, as much as I love me some Jason.
Thanks everyone for the info. I ran over to wikipedia and did some reading. I think that the return of Spoiler is an excellent move. Not to mention the drama that it'll create for Tim. Hasn't the Boy Wonder been getting closer to the Girl Wonder (OYL, post-Conner's death?) It's gonna be interesting to see what happens to the whole Stephanie-Cassie-Tim triangle.
Other than that, I really liked Spoiler as a Batman family supporting cast member and felt that she got cheated during her time as Robin. (Last item - it also vindicates Lesley Tompkins, who was characterized as a stone cold b#### by the events surrounding Stephanie's "death.")

I noticed in that one painting by Alex Ross, the Batman symbol is light blue...the same color is Nightwing's symbol...
The Black Glove (the mysterious entity/person/group that has been behind the scenes since Morrison's run started), makes it's move and takes Batman/Bruce Wayne out of the picture (how, we don't know yet, but most likely they drive him crazy). The Batman title is about how it all goes down, and presumably how Bruce comes back from it.
The other titles aren't part of the main story, but deal with the fallout going on while Bruce is missing.
I want to echo the sentiments that Batman RIP is worth it. #676 blew my socks off as a setup issue (that's right, it was an awesome setup issue, that's how good it was) and thankfully you don't have to buy any of the tie-in issues for it to make sense, as it should be.
But really, I enjoyed Robin 174 (Stephanie is back as the Spoiler) that I'm now getting Robin and Detective for Dini as a writer- which is never a bad thing.
Right now, it's great to be a reader in the DC Bat-universe.

I'd be down for Dick Grayson as Batman, Stephanie as Robin, and Tim 'graduating' to Nightwing... with Jason Tod, Damien, and maybe Jean-Paul filling 'opposite' roles as an Anti-Bat Team of some sort...

I'd rather see Todd, Damien and Jean-Paul falling off a cliff in a blazing inferno, with only enough left (dental) of them to be assured that it's those three that are indeed dead.
