I found it an interesting article that really take the historical influences of the time into consideration.
Every relationship is fundamentally a power struggle, and the individual in power is whoever likes the other person less.
-Chuck Klosterman, "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs"
Thanks for the article. I thought it was well-written & informative!

a new love interest for bruce that hides a dark and secret agenda...
but then she turns her ways and helps batman foil her father's evil plan
Yeah, preferrably a love interest that doesn't get blown to smithereens...

I always thought that Batman had a fatherly affection for Robin, not a gay one. I think that people see what they want to see, also. I mean was Bob Kane gay? I will admit that some of those scenes are weird, but I am also looking at them while living in a society where homosexuality is socially accepted.

Nolan left no body in Batman: Begins. I honestly believe that when he is done with re-writing The Long Halloween for the big screen his follow up arc will once again involve Ra's if he is allowed to do it.

Just remember, Bob Kane wasn't the only one who created Bat-Man. And there were several writters over the time period mentioned in that articule.
I honestly don't buy it. Batman's gay because there were hardly any females in Detective comics? Please. Back then, young people were the major comic book consumers. No 10 year old boy wanted to read a love story... they wanted an action packed dramatic comic book!
If anyone ever gets the chance, I recommend reading Fredric Wertham's "Seduction of the Innocent." That's the milestone book which almost singlehandedly torpedoed comics in the 50's and brought about the Comics Code Authority.
Seriously, if you want to read some crazy stuff about how comics were (and are, I guess) perverting the youth of America, it's right there. Of course, it's drivel - but Wertham was respected and influential at the time. Parents read his works and followed his advice like he was Dr. Spock or something. It makes for a fascinating read, if you can stomach the propaganda and hype.
(Oh, and a word of advice - it also happens to be out of print! )
