Being a hobby comic colorist myself, I have lately found myself wondering why the colorists don't get any recognition on these books.

Everything mentions the penciler or the inker, but often the colorist is ignored... why is this? Are there any colorists who are getting the props they deserve?

The penciller always gets the majority of the credit. That's generally due to a number of reasons: they lay the foundation for the inker and colorist, the create the image, they set the tone and view angle, and (not least) their name is listed second in the credits after the writer.
The inker has usually gotten ignored for the most part in credit as well. Most people view them as just "tracing" the penciller's work.
I think that colorists are getting more and more credit as the technology of printing has allowed them to play a greater role in the creation of the image. Look back at comics before digital coloring and you'll see why most colorists were unappreciated. The format was so restrictive that they really didn't have a lot of control on how to enhace the art.
As for current colorists, the truly best in my opinion right now is Dave Stewart. He is really at the top of the heap right now.

I always liked Moose Bauman as a colorist, especially when he was on Green Lantern.

I've mentioned the great work that was done on Dark Horse's Conan series several times.

That was hands down the best coloring work on the market. It, plus Cary Nord's drawing sans inks made for the most artistically pleasing magazine going. Every page looked like a painting.

I have always liked the style of Richard Isanove (Marvel 1602, Supreme Powers) and have sometimes bought books just because he was the colorist!
