Batman/Outsiders #10 - Rated 6.5 - Eh. The team tracks down an alien that can give normal people powers. Batman gets carried off by it. Everyone immediatly assumes he's dead. I ususally like Dixons sutff but this came off weak and rushed.
Robin #177 - Rated 7 - Jason plans to unite the gangs and use them to "save" Gotham. Robin tries to stop him but Red Robin shows up and lots of insanity. Gangs get arrested etc. At the end Steph is hiring an assassin to kill "Robin"? Wha? I am tired of Penguin showing up as a plot device btw
Brave/Bold #16 - Rated 6.5 - Superman and Catwoman. Now THIS felt rushed. Stuff likeSuperman getting the necklace isnt really explained till later and that felt sloppy. And lots of Deus Ex use of Supes powers. Such as selective hearing the bad guys cell phone even though he had no idea who he was looking for etc. Though it was cute seeing Catwoman trying to "hook up" with Supes. Really felt like a 2 issue thing crammed into 1 issue.
Batgirl #2 - Rated 7 - BG and her "sister" team up after a brief fight to try to track down Cain. They learn of a gy who designed the drugs used on Cass and seek him out but he's old an senile, but not really. They leave and get jumped by Deathstroke. Ilike it. Art needs to be better but hey..
Final Crisis : Legion of Three Worlds Issue # 1 - 10 - Its insanely awesome. I can't wait for the rest of this series. " The robots, the buildings , yeah its the stupid future".
I'm going to be listing mine from best to worst from here going forward.
Trinity #12 - rated 8
"...and to thine own self be true."
The JLA fight the CSA in the main story, hampered by the CSA's hometurf advantage, John Stewart's continuing transformation, and the Trinity's merging personalities. One of those things, though, might end up being an advantage. The Riddler takes the spotlight in the backup as he is hired to investigate the Tarot crimes that Hawkman and Gangbuster have been pursuing. Between the clues he unearths and one very interesting comment in the main story, we find out the identity of Enigma, the mysterious Troika member allied with Morgaine le Fay and Despero. I am not spoiling it, but I will say that he is not who I expected and, at least, not exactly who most others expected.
Brave and the Bold #16 - rated 7
"Oh, dear God. Those muscles. And that hair. And that smile. He never smiles."
Superman and Catwoman end up teamed to thwart an underground auction which is supposed to be selling a map to a mysterious cave just outside Gotham. DarkCrisis is right about this comic being pretty dense. Since it is a neat little one-and-done story, the plot moves at lightning speed through the whole comic, barely giving us time to breathe. That's partially bad - things feel a bit rushed, and partially good - we are spared the kind of drawn-out stories every other comic seems filled with. In the end, I liked it. Once again, Waid shows how, in the middle of a quick adventure, he can bring out the personalities of each character and make a new chemistry we didn't expect.
Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds #1 - rated 6
"Oh, that loser is barely worth mentioning."
With the track record of Geoff Johns recent work and the excellence of all the Final Crisis tie-ins thus far, I had pretty high hopes for this one. I hadn't read the recent Superman/Legion stories, so this was my first introduction to this version, and it was a little frustrating seeing the same characters once again rebooted and going through the same kind of nonsense I'd seen them go through several times before. Like Brave & the Bold above, the story moved at wild speeds, cramming a ton of characters, plot points, and perspectives all into this one issue. Even worse, the first half is devoted to Superboy-Prime, who is probably the most annoying character to appear in comics since the post-rape Dr. Light. I can only hope what happened to Light happens to him, and soon. If you have more patience for Superboy-Prime or the constantly rebooting Legion than I do, then maybe this comic won't seem so bad to you. For what its worth, I did rate it as high as a 6 for the elements I did like: The Holo-Jimmy tour of the Superman Museum, the ever-slick art of George Perez, the cool new take on the origin of the Legion of Super-Villains, and the inclusion of so many cool Legion-related characters, like Jacques Foccart, Time Trapper, R.J. Brande, Leland Macauley, and Polar Boy. I'll probably be skipping issues 2, 3, and 4, and only coming back for the last issue so I can find out how it all ends.
Justice League of America #24 - rated 5.5
"You're the zen master of the obvious"
Amazo battles all seem the same to me. I haven't been reading this title, so I didn't know they were in the middle of one of those, still. I bought it interested to find out how Anansi would be worked into the DCU as a villain-god. That's what the cover seems to promise, but we don't get an appearance or even a mention of Anansi's name. Amazo takes up the great bulk of the comic and the sub-plot, which I assume will lead to the Anansi story, is only hinted at in the last 2 pages. Its not a terrible comic; there are a few nice moments. Overall, though, its pretty unimpressive.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
I think it's Ravager. Deathstroke would be too obvious and the solicitation for the next issue says "They team up with an unlikely ally".
I think they are setting Superboy Prime up to be redeemed in this book....I do know I can't wait til Bart Allen returns...I think in the next issue or issue 3
I think Red Robin is either Anarchy or Talon (Earth-3 Robin).
And I think that the Spoiler who is hiring Lynx is not Steph.
Count me as another guy who would love to see the return of Anarky. I remember in some of his earlier appearances, it seemed like they were setting him up to be an enemy of Tim Drake's. His later miniseries and very short-lived series were awesome.
I don't normally bother with the Robin comic book, but I'd be on board if Anarky showed up in any way, shape, or form.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
Lynx still alive? thought she died. good to hear that she's alive...gotta check out.
I think she's died twice now.
They used a Laz Pit to bring her back during all that OYL stuff when Batgirl was acting all twisted from the brainwashing of daddy and Slade. Then Lynx got killed again as part of the plot to lure in Robin.
"Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."
