Hello, This is Dustin and I'm going to guide you through some of the staple (no brainer) cards in the warcraft tcg. I'm going to list some of the best cards for each faction, class, race, and each of the best talent cards. This guide should hopefully help the newer players or even some veteran players looking to get competitive.
Okay Horde have heavy hitters and usually really good come into play abilities, which are almost always better in the control match-up, a few of the best Horde only cards would be
Tatulla the Reclaimer-this card is AMAZING it is a 3/3 Body for 4 that kills Abilities or Equipment. This card has only one drawback which is it doesn't target but that is also amazing since it can get past Stronghold Gauntlets and also un-targetables. If you're playing Horde I suggest you play at least 3-4 but only if playing control, hes a little slow for aggro but they should definitely try and fit him in the Side Deck.
Doshura Risestrider-This ally is a two for one right off the bat. He kills a guy and also protects to trade with another, he stops an aggro deck in its tracks. He is another staple for control decks and if he's not in yours you should make four slots for him fast.
Brok Bloodcaller-Another fantastic card from the new Hunt For Illidan set. He is one of the more versatile allies for the horde because he can do two awesome things. First he can kill a weak ally and beat face as a win condition or he can just trade with a problem such as Myriam Stormcaller which is usually a huge problem to a lot of decks. I think Aggro or control can afford to have 3-4 of this guy.
Vexmaster Nar'jo-For anyone who hates to play against aggro this is your godsend on the play. He kills just about any card they play and can even kill two or three if they let him stay around too long, this makes him a staple for a lot of aggro decks. He can easily trade for a protector to let your team through.
Bloodsoul-Easily the best Horde aggro card a 2/3 for 1 is ridiculous he has virtually no drawback (he only hits heroes)...hm ok I'm pretty sure I was going to do that anyway. And his 3 health make him survive past Blast Wave, Shadowfury and a lot of other board sweeps. If your aggro deck doesn't have four you need to get on that.
ALLIANCE:
Now for Alliance. There are very efficient beaters and they usually sacrifice themselves for their abilities. Usually they are better for the aggro player since their early drops are either Elusive or Untargetable, but that doesn't mean they rollover when you try to play a control deck with Alliance.
"Chipper" Ironbane-This guy shows the versatility of the Alliance allies. This guy is a 3/1 that hits like a house and when you need to get rid of an ability or equipment BAM! this guy comes to the rescue. He is great in either aggro or control and you will never be disappointed when you draw him.
Myriam Starcaller-One of the best cards the Alliance have in my opinion, this card can just get ridiculous. First of all its untargetable, and thats just dumb, so I'm taking five every turn and cant do anything about it. Plain and simple you should play this card.
Now for some of the best cards the nine classes have to offer.
DRUID
I know you're probably going to think I'm crazy but I honestly think this next card is the best Druid card there is.
Natural Order-Yep I said it, this is the best Druid card in current meta game. It deals with everything, you play four of these main deck no matter what. You will always be able to play them, they're good against aggro, control or whatever. Ohh you have a Drain Mana, not anymore. This is a staple card nothing left to say about it.
BALANCE-Force of Nature- Unfortunately Balance doesn't have the best card pool but this is the exception I think it can kill three little guys
or one big one if your prefer to cast spells. This is a bomb one.
RESTO- They have yet to print a Resto spell worth mentioning, sorry healers.
FERAL-Predatory Strikes-This card is crazy think about turn one play this, turn two Catform hit you for three. This card is the best feral talent and for all you Telrander players, you need to try and get yourself a playset.
HUNTER
Hunter spells do everything, they kill guys they take turns from you and sneak traps into play. I always enjoy playing against a Hunter deck.
Bloody Welcome-You guessed it, a removal spell. This card straight up kills small guys and at instant speed its broken. Turn 2 Xanata???
I don't think so.
MARKSMAN-Aimed Shot-Yep I'm a fan of the classics this card was good back then and is still good now, its good all the time, hmm you played a protector I think not, Or on turn 8 just deal seven damage and attack for the win. I really think this is one of the better hunter cards.
SURVIVAL-Thrill of the Hunt-Hmm hey guys is killing any ally good? HELL yes it is, and you get to ready resources as a little bonus.
I'm a big fan of cards that just kill guys and this is one of the best ones.
BEAST MASTERY-Bestial Wrath-This card is nuts. You don't even have to trade your 3/3 pet for a 6/6 I'll just kill yours, thanks for
playing. Or what about this, you have six damage left? Well that's awesome, here comes six. This card is sneaky and people will run right into it.
MAGE
The mage in my opinion is one of the better control classes. Their downfall is their exceptionally low health but they still have some amazing cards.
Counterspell-If it ain't broke don't fix it. This is a staple mage card, and it deals with all other classes, when is the last time you have
seen a deck with no abilities?... never, and thats why I think this card will always be good.
FROST-Cold Snap-This was a very easy choice this card is amazing. It can gain you so much card advantage and just refuel your hand like
no other card, and if you're willing to dedicate the frost cards to make it worth playing this card, you will not regret it.
FIRE-Blast Wave-Another easy no brainer, hmm, didn't they make this card already? Ohhh wait, it cost seven and did only one point more of
damage. This is one of the best Hunt for Illidan cards and it can just destroy an aggro deck also since it also hits the player it will never
be a dead card in your hand.
ARCANE-Slow-This card is pretty cool it may not be an amazing card but I can see it being played against an aggro deck and just
completely messing their plans up.
PALADIN
This class has some of the coolest cards.
Hammer of Justice-This card may not be a big rare flashy card but it gets the job done and can stall long enough to win the game plus it draws you a card, and thats never bad in my book. And of course this can go in a Rush or control deck, I really like this card.
HOLY-Holy Shock-One of the best cards to show paladins utility, hey i have a spell that kills one of your guys and saves one of mine,
thats just good. This card already sees tournament play and there is a reason why its amazing.
RETRIBUTION-Seal of Command-This card can make your weapons so much better because you can now deal crazy amounts of damage to something and the sacrifice ability is also great.
PROTECTION-Holy Shield-This card is really cool and since it's an instant you can sneak it into play to cause lots of damage and leave your opponent wishing he didn't just make that last attack. Then, you go in and finish the job. All and all its a very solid
card that should see some play.
PRIEST
A class that can deal with almost anything. It has huge heals for aggro and hand destruction for control, a good class to play for almost
anyone.
Melt Face- A very simple card in that it just kills a guy, it is very effective at killing untargetables and at a cost of only two it is one of the cheapest creature kills in the game.
HOLY-Holy Nova- A board sweep effect with a built in heal whats not to like?
SHADOW-Darkness-Ok this card is one of the more annoying I've played against. Priests already have so many ways to strip your hand
so you would think just hold some cards till they run out.... not anymore, guess what.... discard your hand.
DISC.-Divine Spirit- Well this one is pretty nice. Anything that draws cards over and over is good. And it makes it where you can ready resources to play multiple spells a turn, very nice.
ROGUE
This class has some scary spells because some of them do so much damage that can almost kill you while you thought you were in the clear all along.
Pickpocket-I really like this card for the fact that you can just steal a win condition from your opponent and that it hits multiple copies. Think about it, you can possibly hit four cards for one resource *grin* however very unlikely.
SUBTLETY-Premeditation-This card is AWESOME! You search your deck for two cards that can do any number of things. Thats always good, I mean even if its just one but you get TWO.
ASSASSINATION-Mutilate-This does sooo.. much damage if your hero has duel wield, which it should always have, this can kill a hero who's almost dead or just a really big ally... an all round good card.
COMBAT-Blade Twisting-Okay so when I deal damage your guys are dead and you discard wow that's really good. And if you get evasion in
play it can get insanely good.
SHAMAN
This class has some really good spells that usually do two things in one and are very efficient.
Earth Shock-Deal four damage and interrupt an ability. This card should speak for itself.
ELEMENTAL-Elemental Precision-This card can amount to alot of damage depending on how you build your deck, I mean if you hmmm, Earth Shock, just think EIGHT damage omg that is crazy.
REST.-Again sadly they just don't make that good of heal spec cards and its a shame.
ENHANCEMENT-Stormstrike-Hmm wonder whats it like playing with eight Rak Skyfury? Well now you do. This card could make for a possible third or fourth swing with your melee weapon.
WARLOCK
Okay this is My favorite class. They have the best spells for my play style. I like to wear my opponent down and control the game (im not an aggro player at all) and the warlock delivers.
Drain Mana-Best warlock card no question.. If it stays in play for more than 2-3 turns you will win the game it is a threat your opponent must deal with if he doesn't want to lose and the fact that it 3 for 1's right off is just too good.
AFFLICTION-Unstable Affliction-This card costs three and deals alot of damage. By its self it can be a win condition. Let's say you play it against a Druid and it lasts 2 turns and then they Natual Order it.....Your 3 cost card just dealt 8 damage. You definately got your bang
for your buck.
DESTRUCTION-Shadowburn-This is still the best spot removal warlock has besides steal essence and the fact that it can deal with the
new power house Brok and some old favorites like Fury means it can still hold its own as one of the best warlock removal spells.
DEMONOLOGY-Dark Pact-This may not be the right choice as best card for this talent spec but I feel that it is. I mean lets say you have an Infernal in play and you just cant afford to pay its discard cost well I'll just attack for six, then draw six. That just sounds too good not to be one of the better demonology cards.
WARRIORS
The strong arm class in my opinion they just want to beat face and take damage and thats just what that do.
Bloodrage-This gets so much advantage, I mean two cards right off and then one more for the rest of the game till they can deal with it. Another great example of the warriors just beating themselves to beat you.
PROTECTION-Vitality-This feels like a warrior version of Form of the Serpent except that you gain +1 health and serpent form is amazing so this is just as amazing.
ARMS-Mortal Strike-No Contest one of the best Warrior cards ever printed. No more cannibalize or greater heals and it also does damage which just puts it over the top.
FURY-Rampage-I hate choosing this card since it feels just like Vitality. But if it does what an already tier decks best card does then it should be played.
There you go guys these are just some of the no brainer cards that you should use in your decks. This of course is just my opinion. If you don't believe me please just put em in and if they don't improve your deck or make it more tournament viable I apologize in advance. But I can guarantee that won't happen. I wish I could have fit all the amazing cards for each class but there are just so many. So it's up to you to test and play your decks. And remember a card doesn't have to be amazing and rare to be good, there are plenty of wacky cards out there that can be just as good as the 20 dollar rare. Don't be scared to improvise. As always it was a blast!
Of course it's situational, but I'd personally rather run Jon Reaver than Tatulla. I think you're fogetting about Brodian for Alliance. For balance Druid, how is Force of Nature better than Dreamstate? You ever play against Chris' Boomkin deck lol? Demonology Warlock should be Harroon; you have plenty of draw as is w/ locks (life tap and drain), this opens you up to a nasty protector
It draws a lot of cards. Especially in a deck that would run out of gas before the the card was printed. Moonfire is already good but with Dreamstate its that much better. The deck is full of of Balance abilities and Dreamstate compliments them well. Of course it has to stay in play.
I think untagetables in general should be listed for alliance allies. Chipper is a huge lose in tempo.
Hunter, I like Silencing Shot over Aimed Shot.
Mage, Nether Fracture and Fizzle are clearly better than Counterspell (IMHO). Frost best card is Water Elemental. Even if I was an Arcane Mage I wouldn't run Slow.
Pally, Restoration is bad only reason to play them is for Santity Aura but even that isn't worth it.
Priest, Melt face isn't very effective for killing untargetables but it can kill them. Opponent chooses an ally. Unless an untargetable is the only ally than this isn't always good. I would say Mental Anguish.
Rogue, This is tough but I think Purlion might be the top card. The other talent specs don't compare to combat and I think Suprise attacks still shines. I don't think Premeditation is that good. Cheat Death and
Shadowstep are better.
Shaman, Spec specific cards don't excite me but prefer Shamanistic Dual Wield and Totemic Focus.
Warlock, I don't think Dark pact should be in any deck. So many better ways to draw cards.
Warrior, I think Puncture is warrior's best card I also think Pummel is better than Bloodrage. I don't like Vitality, maybe Shield Slam.
Just some constructive criticism... please don't take offense, but I'm saying this so that your next article can be better:
You really need to have someone read over your work before you submit it. Someone who has more experience in writing. The complete random lack (or sometimes excess) of punctuation and sentence structure makes your message sound less intelligent, and just makes certain parts hard to read.
Some examples...
"Okay so when I deal damage your guys are dead and you discard wow that's really good."
"If it stays in play for more than 2-3 turns you will win the game it is a threat your opponent must deal with if he doesn't want to lose and the fact that it 3 for 1's right off is just too good."
I may disagree with some of your card choices, but I won't argue about that. What I will say is that poor grammar and difficult sentences do not give much credibility to your points. To be brutally honest, while you may be a skilled player, your article reads like an excited 12-year-old's poorly written message board posts.
Sorry to "necro" an older post, but I admittedly don't visit here often since the UDE board has a little more activity.
Anyhow, I wanted to say these are exactly the kind of posts I enjoy reading. I play in a small group, so we don't exactly see the full potential of a lot of cards. I really enjoy reading about the success others have had with certain cards, as it inspires me to try to put them to good use as well (along with devising ways to fight against them).
So thanks for the review!
One small correction, though: Demonology Warlocks can't use Dark Pact - it is Affliction only.
