What the hell is wrong with you people keeping secrets like this from me? (Actually I am sure someone probably suggested to me that I read this a long time ago).
I just finished reading The Walking Dead vol I-IV since Thursday (..that I borrowed from a friend*). I do not have Vol V and on and am pretty mad that I have to wait until someone loans me the rest of them!
Kirkman hits it home with this one! I do not like zombies. I do not like zombie stories. I think the whole zombie fanatic thing has been blown waaaay out of proportion. But this is just good story.
I give Walking Dead an overall rating of 8.5 on a 10 scale.

I'll go you one better; I don't buy black and white comics. Except this one.
I don't let black and white versus color get in the way of me enjoying books. Sometimes B&W can help set the mood of the story. Sin City, Walking Dead, and Grendel are several of those stories. Color would ruin them.
Sometimes color can also ruin artwork as some work is specifically produced to be B&W. Mark Schultz's Xenozoic Tales is one such work. Color would kill the crispness of the work.
I also believe Frank Cho to be better in B&W than color.
I swear by Walking Dead whenever folks ask for my suggestions on new books to read. I like to describe it as a TV drama with zombies thrown in as an afterthought. Glad you're aboard!
i'm waiting for the new one to come out, my friend made me borrow all of his...last one was suppose to come out in trade last month edit: seems like it doesn't come out until august now =/ i ended at volume 9 i think, right when they were leaving for dc with the new group of people =/ :S is it worth it to pick up the single issues instead and get caught up so i can start picking it up as it comes out? and does anyone know which issues i would need to get to be caught up? :S also found it funny that like halfway through the comic the main character starts to look like chuck norris XD

I will vote NO.
I have had a much better experience reading it in the arcs presented. I would hate to have to read this monthly. In fact I have started to change over to tpbs for many series over the monthlies.
I get Invincible, Astounding Wolf-Man, and Brit in trade...I specifically stopped collecting ASWM and Brit issue to issue because it just reads better.
I am also getting all Green Lantern tpbs for the Sinestro War through the Blackest Night stories as well as War of Kings (which I also stopped collecting issue to issue).
I am getting more impatient with reading month to month...especially in an event mini-series to wait for it every month. I would rather have a complete story in one shot.
i get impatient a bit in reading the tpb's :S because i hate the wait =/ i only pick up a few comics as it is XD deadpool since that never seems to get a tpb =/ the dark avengers and thunderbolts :S and one or two dc comics here and there like battle for the cowl (is only 3 issues long, so yea *shrugs* but this i keep looking for number 10 in tpb XD but now i have to wait until august to get it :S bad enough i have to wait till august to see gi joe (unless they show it at SDCC XD) but now this too i just wish they would bring tpb out faster :S
Been with from issue one and am more excited month to month. TWD is the last book I read-like dessert, because it always delivers more than I thought it would and helps wash the bad taste of lesser comics out of my mouth.. I believe this is Kirkman's most consistent book. Try reading the big hard covers-they read like movies.
I have the Walking Dead Compendium Vol 1. Which has issues 1-48. it's heavy and thick enough that you could in the event of a zombie infestation use it for:
1. reading while taking a break from running from zombies
2. stopping a zombie from biting you by jamming the book in it's mouth.
3. bash the zombies head in with the book.

Us Windy City folks are especially lucky in this regard, as our public library system has an *outstanding* TPB collection. There's still the occasional trade that I'll go out and purchase (Mouse Guard, for example), but you can read the complete run of Sandman, Preacher, Y: The Last Man, Fables (up to the most recent trade), and Hellboy (ditto) without having to spend a dime - provided you return them all on time, of course. They've also got the usual mainstream titles like X-Men, Batman, all the Ultimates titles, and about a zillion copies of Watchmen (I think it was the "Chicago Reads" book for a month).
Personally, I pick up Walking Dead in single issues, but I'll check the trades out of the library if I don't feel like digging out the longbox...

I have heard from one member of our group that the Milwaukee libraries are pretty well stocked with tpbs as well. I might just "check it out".
