My Team's Better Than Your Team Random-Round 2, Game 2
In the past, Gargantua and I have committed to some big single elimination tournaments to see who was best team in Clix. We determined the best team at 300 points (Defenders), 500 points (Avengers) and 800 points (JSA). Well we're at it again, but this time to make things interesting we're randomizing the point values to see which team is best - at any point value.
Teams must still be able to field 800 points in named figures, no dupes to qualify. Only those figures with the TA on their base may be used, so Hypertime U Flash can't be on the JSA team, but the AA version of him can.
After an initial battle of 32 teams we've widdled it down to 16 contenders:
Gargantua will be playing: Avengers, Legion, SHIELD, Hypertime, 2000AD, GLC, Defenders, Mystics
Flyingicarus will be playing: JLA, Brotherhood, X-Men, Titans, Sinister Syndicate, FF, Skrulls, Batman Enemies
Point value of each game will be determined by random die roll, 1d6 +2, x100 for a range of 300-800. No feats will be used
Only one character per team, the one with the highest point value, will be able to use the TA (to keep teams like Mystics and Bat Allies from being too annoying). If he's KOd, then the highest point figure remaining picks up the TA. For teams that require two members to work (like Sinister Syndicate) any piece may be used to trigger the ability, but only the highest point figure may actually use it.
Onto round 2
Game 1: The Skrulls take on the Green Lantern Corps in a nearby post.
Game 2: Right here and now watch the Titans battle the Mystics!
"We have to assume Circe's behind this," Robin says logically, "Demon and Nightshade are good guys after all."
"...And unless Obsidian's gone loco again you could count him on the good side," Speedy interjects.
"Raven do you have anything?" Robin asks.
"Only a sense of danger," Raven replies.
"Like that's any different," Changeling says via their comlink.
"Changeling, do you and Cyborg have anything to report?" Robin asks.
Cyborg puts his hand over Changeling's mouth. "Nothing here except registering high spikes of power. It's gonna be your magic users. Garth and I are gathering some Titan reserves for this Brother Blood thing we got. We'll join you as soon as we can." Silence. "Robin?".
Back to the Headquarters where the lights flicker on and off. Windows open upside down. Chairs walk to the ceiling.
"Starfire?" Wonder Girl asks.
"Yes Donna?" she asks.
"Now might be a good time for that bravado of before," she adds.
It's been awhile since I really cared about the Titans but I forgot what good figures there are of them. Sure I've been using Raven and Starfire regularly for a long time (and their figures have aged somewhat) but the new original Teen Titans from Crisis are great. All the various Donna Troys from that set are tempting even if I don't really like the character! Despite looking for the best figures I did kind of stay 80s Titans with the exception of Speedy.
"You've broken cursed Merlin's spell
Which forced me in good deeds to engage.
In gratitude it pleases me well
to help you and indulge my rage,
These others though it does surprise
Me that you've turned them to the foul,
Sickeningly noble their souls do rise
As they don their cape and cowl," Etrigan rhymed.
"Breaking Merlin's geas upon you was child's play, Demon," Circe said. "As for Obsidian, evil's left it's mark on his soul and it was not hard to get it to reassert itself. Only Nightshade requires my constant effort to keep her under control. Now, my servants, let us take over the world, shall we?"
"Yes, mistress," Obsidian and Nightshade intoned flatly.
I knew at 400 points, the anchor for my team probably shouldn't be much more than 150 points. That pretty well left me Circe, Sentinel and Sabbac to choose from. I decided against Sabbac, as being too much a close combat figure. Sentinel was tempting with his 18Dv and Defend first click, but you've got PC on your side Raven (I figured you'd grab her, even without seeing your team) so I figured it probably wouldn't take you that long to crack the 18DV, and once you did, his values fall pretty fast. Circe is more consistant in her combat values and has some nice support powers. After that it was just picking her support. Etrigan's always been pretty nice for the points. Obsidian's a nice attacker too, and his Super Senses could keep him around a whole, and you showed me how useful NIghtshade could be when you played her last game, especially with that Land of Nightshades power that lets her do free damage.
Robin moves in. He watches his adversaries carefully. "This isn't going to be easy," he says. Despite that there's a sense of excitement with him. Somehow, he thinks, he has to figure a way to outsmart Circe and her minions. And that thought intrigues him.
