“Okay, Legion. Here’s what we’re looking at,” Triplicate Girl said, gesturing to a screen behind her. “The Sun Eater is 2 days away. Brainiac 5 has gathered some information on the creature while we’ve been gone collecting our ‘team’.” She spoke with a hint of loathing, unhappy about working with villains of that caliber.

The image arose; a dark red cloud of flame and lightning enveloped the screen. Numbers and graphs of statistics etched out the frame of the image.

“Brainiac, zoom out.” She continued, showing a section of heir sector of space, showing the scale of the Sun Eater. It enveloped an area nearly three times the size of the Earth’s sun, dwarfing all the planets in their solar system.

“Holy…” Kid Quantum said, leaning forward in amazement.

“Here’s the plan,” She said calmly, breathing deeply. “In the center of this mass of power is the Sun Eater weapon itself. It’s massive; about the size of our headquarters. The armor is supposedly impenetrable-- energy shields that’ll fry even the strongest of us.

“Hmmph,” came a gruff voice from the back. Five separate video screens lined the walls, each a face of one of the villains they had encountered in the days prior. The disgruntled noise in particular, came from the masked individual known as the Persuader, safely locked in his cell, same as the other four.

“Your opinion is noted, Persuader,” She continued. “We do think that your axe - and Mano, your hand - could be capable of penetrating these defenses. That isn’t our main problem, however,” she began pacing, continuing. “First, we need to get through the energy storm. It’s an immensely hostile environment. Few of us could last more than a few moments directly in the cloud, let alone near it. Emerald Empress, you and Cosmic Boy are our answer to that. Your powers in conjunction should work to give us a protective zone as we approach the target. We’ll still need to move fast.”

In her screen, the Emerald Empress smiled, playing with her hair as she listened. She didn’t mind what she had to do. They had promised her the eye back. Once she was in possession of that, she thought to herself, no one could contain her.

“Last, and probably the most difficult task, will be bringing the Sun Eater itself down. This will need all of us, the combined Legion’s efforts, as well as you five,” she concluded, gesturing to the screens. “We’ll need to be able to power through the machinations’ shields. Validus, Supergirl, Persuader, Mano, Wildfire, Lightning Lad. You’re our answer to that. However, per Brainiac 5’s suggestion and actions this morning, we’ll have one more weapon to add to that arsenal - Mon-El. He isn’t here right now; he’s with Cosmic Boy in the infirmary. To those of you who don’t know, Mon-El is a Daxamite. This is a race of people who, like Kryptonians, gain super human abilities in the presence of a yellow sun. However, unlike Kryptonians, they have no vulnerability to Kryptonite. They have a vulnerability to lead.”

She let her last statement sink into the rest of the group, understanding how abundant lead was on their planet and how dangerous it must be.

“On top of that, it doesn’t go away. Once a Daxamite’s been poisoned in this way, there is no cure. Luckily for us, our own Brainiac 5 has developed a serum that will stay the effects. Bad news is it requires Kryptonite to be effective. This is where we come in.”

Turning back to the screen, it changed again to a picture of a massive green rock.

“Tonight, this is our target. It’s an asteroid, composed entirely of raw Kryptonite. So, sorry Kara, you’re benched for this,” she said, looking at their most powerful member, Supergirl. “We’re not sure what we’re going to find here, so we’re bringing a full contingent of Legionnaires on the mission. We need to bring back a load of the stuff for Brainy to use in his serum.”

“What about us?!” came a voice from the screens behind them. This time, Mano.

“You’ll sit. Emerald Empress, however, will be coming along with us. We’re going to use her to teleport rocks for us,” Trips finished, sneering at the villain. Emerald Empress rolled her eyes in disgust at the thought of manual labor.

“Ok people, let’s move it,” Luornu said, “We don’t have a second to lose.”

The Asteroid

A consciousness slumbered under the rocks, not disturbed for hundreds and hundreds of years. Now, it awoke - waves of ambient power tingling into its being, jump-starting its consciousness. Curiosity pervaded its senses; curiosity and misery.

Power? What power is this? Who… who am I? Where am I…? I cannot-- cannot make myself… I n-need… power! It thought, attempting to move it’s arms and legs. As it moved, its environment moved with it.

What…? It thought, as green crystal moved with his legs and arms, forming a crystalline shell around him, causing the creature a semblance of an appearance of some kind of crystal golem.

No matter. The power-- it’s close. It will be mine! I will remember! The creature roared in thought, stumbling and walking towards the group of slender humanoids.

Scenario Rules:

-> Nobody knows who the Consciousness is-- not even the being itself! While the player will be made aware in secret of who & what he’s playing, the Legion won’t find out until they chisel away at the Kryptonite crystals that surround and protect him. Until then, you can only know this:

On his first click, he has Shape Change and a 17/Invulnerable defense.

-> Diamond Lil represents the crystalline armor casing of the Consciousness. All four pieces begin play adjacent to the Consciousness, and must be placed to his north, south, east and west - never in diagonal squares, and always in the shape of a cross. The player may ignore normal starting setup rules for placing his figures because of this.

The constructs can only be given attack actions. The Consciousness ignores these figures when determining LOS to other targets. They represent blocking terrain for the Legion, and the Consciousness cannot be directly attacked until all pieces of the armor are destroyed.

Each time a chunk of crystal armor is destroyed, the Legion will see more and learn more about who and what they’re facing. If all pieces are broken off (destroyed) and Protected is used, then the final mystery will be revealed!

Finally got a chance to read it and VERY cool. I like the change up and the mystery! Hmm...who could it be....Mordru maybe?? Darkseid?? But it's encased in Kryptonite...hmm...well gotta play it to find out!

So since the Diamond Lil's are like blocking terrain...can I Mind Control them? Probably not huh?

I love playing big brutes, and I love original house rules even more! I'm in!

I guess since the Diamond Lil's are a form of armor, I will use Thunderbolts to give them the JSA team ability. That'll help their defenses stay high.

Turn 1a)

"Alright people, let's go chip off enough of the Kryptonite for Brainy to use," said Lu.

"Don't know why they needed so many of us," said Wildfire.

"To carry the rocks, Buckethead," Cham said lightly slapping Wildfire's helmet. "I guess we need a lot of them."

As the Legionnaires flew towards the green asteroid, all the Legionnaires halted as they all heard at once, a voice in their heads.

"Hold Legionnaires!" thought Imra to them. "I sense....a presence....it's...it's coming from the Kryptonite!"

At that thought, the Legionnaires saw the asteroid shift and move. Large chunks of Kryptonite swirled around the main body as if forming a shield.

"What the...." said Rokk. "Is it..alive? Imra?"

"I...I cannot," thought Imra. She concentrated harder. "I sense...much confusion and...yearning...but I can't read anything else. I'm sorry," thought Imra to all of them.

"Well we really don't need to know what it is. We just need some of the pretty shiny green rocks, then we can get out of here, right?" said Bouncing Boy a little nervous.

"Yeah let's just blast a couple of pieces off and get outta here. I highly doubt a giant piece of rock is gonna be any trouble," said Wildfire. "Here, why don't I just go on over there and blast some pieces, then Rokk can magnetically grab them. Easy peasy."

"Easy peasy?" asked Bouncing Boy to Cham.

"He picked it up from Kara," said Cham.

"Oh...." said Chuck. "Um...what does it mean?"

Cham shrugged. "I guess 'not that hard'?"

"Alright, you guys wait here, I'll be back in a second," said Wildfire as he zoomed off towards the asteroid.

"Drake! Wait!" yelled Lu. "Argh! Why does he always do that?? Just because he's a blob of energy, doesn't mean he can't get hurt! Grife...come on Legionnaires, let's follow him."

"Whoa! Did you see that?" exclaimed Bouncing Boy. "That hunk of rock just flew straight at Mon-el at almost super speed!"

"Something's definitely in there that's controlling the Kryptonite," thought Imra to all of them.

"And it looks like it doesn't like Mon-el," said Cosmic Boy.

"Mon-el, you okay?" asked Lu.

"Fine, let me take a swing at rock and see if I can see what's inside," said Mon-el as he used a normal asteroid and swung it at one of the side's of the green rock. The asteroid exploded and some of the side of the green asteroid chipped away but not enough to make a dent. "This thing's pretty solid." said Mon-el a bit tiredly.

"Come on, Shvaughn. Let's get in there," said Lu as she picked up Shvaughn and flew closer.

1. Imra will fly to G5

(free) She'll perplex up Mon-el's damage to 4

2. Mon-el will push to HSS and take a swing at the Lil #4. AV 10 vs DV 17. Roll is a 2, 6 for the hit for 4 clicks after Invuln. HO is destroyed. Mon-el will finish his movement in H6, picking up the HO in H11 along the way.

3. Cham will push to fly to J8.

4. Triplicate Girl will pick up Shvaughn and fly to G3, placing Shvaughn in G4

"Holy Sprock! That thing fired a beam at Shvaughn," cried Chuck.

"Okay whatever is in there is definitely not friendly," said Rokk. "And it's dogging Mon-el like a moth a to flame. What's worse is that it seems only our toughest Legionnaires can crack the shell. Wildfire! Time to soften it up for us!"

"You got it, Rokk!" yelled Drake as he blasted the side of the asteroid, but again only chipping at it. "This thing's tough!"

"Let's see if the side Mon-el smashed is soft enough!" cried Bouncing Boy as he charged and bounced as hard as he could against the side of the green rock. His charge chipped even more of the rock away. "Alright!"

"Let's pour on the attack, Legionnaires!" cried Lu.

Shvaughn whipped out her rifle and fired a blast at the side Wildfire softened up.

1. Rokk will TK Wildfire to H8.

2. Wildfire will RS to I2 and take a shot at Lil 2. AV 10 vs DV 17. Roll is a 4, 3 for barely the hit. Lil 2 takes 3 clicks after Invuln.

3. Bouncing Boy charges to L6 and takes a swing at Lil 4. AV 9 vs DV 17. Roll is a 5, 3 for a click after Toughness.

keep in mind the rules for the Space map, Wildfire's range would be halved down to 5 when he attacks Lil #2.
