“Multiple Problems”

Clean up had been easy enough, if a little embarrassing. Most of the Titans had gotten their butts handed to them, the bad guys got away and Raven and Terra had gotten into a fight in front of everyone. In Victor Stone’s mind, though, the encounter had been a victory. They had managed to keep everyone safe and when you’ve got assassins trying to kill a little girl, that’s saying something. Heck, he was willing to get beaten up and embarrassed every day for the rest of his life if it meant he could prevent innocent people from dying. Two fights against super-villains in one day did take a lot out of him. As he piloted the T-Jet back to Titans tower, Cyborg looked forward to a nice meal and some relaxing in front of the tube. Maybe burgers…

“Landing denied, Alice,” came a voice from beside him. He looked to the side but didn’t see anyone. Seriously? He kept toward the tower but the hanger didn’t open.

“I said you can’nae come in,” The voice repeated.

“Who keeps saying that?” Cyborg demanded.

“Saying what? What’s going on, motormouth?” Beast Boy asked from the seat behind him. “Open the garage door, will ya?”

“Override code 73T95,” Vic shook it off. Something must be wrong with the automated landing system. He’d recheck it after dinner. The hanger door opened and the T-Jet landed inside. The Titans piled out and opened the door to the hallway that led to the rest of the tower.

It was completely dark.

“Something’s wrong,” Cyborg said over the clank of his spotlight popping into place where his right hand had been a moment before. Someone in the shadows grabbed his ankle and Victor jumped, shining the light at the ground. Nothing, but he was sure that something had been there a moment before.

“Oh, yes. Silver would do something like that,” a new voice, less than a whisper, came from down the hall. “Terrible. Simply terrible. I agree-- Orange is pretty. Green told us so.”

Victor took a breath and snapped his beam down the corridor, towards the voice. He thought he saw part of the shadow retreat a little slower than the rest. Dammit, Stone. Get it together.

“Hey Vic are you alright?” Gar asked, turning into an owl and perching on his friend’s shoulder. The talons would have scratched a normal arm but Cyborg wasn’t normal. “You’re jumping at everything, bro. We probably just tripped a breaker or something.”

“Do you know anything about electronics? You don’t trip a breaker unless you’ve got too many things plugged in or unless there’s a problem with the wiring. I’m telling you, man, there’s somebody in here!”

“Tara headed back before the rest of us...”

“I don’t believe Tara would have turned out all the lights in this section of the tower.” Starfire floated above the rest of them. Her hand glowing red, she pointed it down the hall as well. Nightwing took a flashlight out of his utility belt and provided a third light source. Still, they slowly moved a few more feet down the hall. This time Vic heard the first voice, the one that had told him he couldn’t land the T-Jet.

“Over ‘ere, Alice. ‘At’s the wrong looking glass.”

Cyborg kicked open the bathroom door, shining his light all around. He only saw his reflection in the mirror above the sink.

“Hey. Seriously, Vic. You want somebody else to take point on this one?”

“I got it, Dick,” Cyborg growled. He knew someone had been there. Maybe they couldn’t hear it without his enhanced hearing. He didn’t even remember turning it on. “I just…I thought I heard something.”

“Victor is right, Richard,” Raven said. She looked worried. “There is someone else here. I can feel them - two of them.”

“Nobody shoulda been able to get in here without setting off the alarms.”

The team continued to search for the intruders, soon making it to the meeting room. Cyborg kicked open the door to find… nothing. The meeting table and its chairs were gone. The oversized video screen that Nightwing very occasionally used for briefings and the rest of the crew used for movies was missing as well.

“What the hell?” Beast Boy asked. “Who would want our chairs? They even have our little symbols on them. That’d just be weird for someone else. I wouldn’t want to sit in a chair with a-- a Floronic Man symbol.”

“Floronic Man doesn’t have a symbol, salad-head.”

“How do you know?”

“I think yer missin’ the point, lad,” the first voice said from the next room.

“Yes, Silver always does that. He isn’t a real boy, did you know?” said the second.

Cyborg glanced at the other Titans. He obviously wasn’t the only one who had heard that.

“Nightwing?”

The Titan’s leader nodded in affirmation. Cyborg went for the door, activating several of his weapon systems. He pushed it open, only to have half his spotlight shine back into his face and overloading his vision sensors.

“Haw, haw!”

Starfire shot forward, firing a full power starbolt.

“No wait!” Cyborg shouted, tackling Kory to the ground just before the starbolt came back at them, singeing the air above them. Cyborg fired his grenade launcher, shielding Starfire’s body with his own and activating his force field. Kory could probably take a frag grenade but Vic didn’t think there was any reason to find out.

The bomb exploded, blowing out every window in the living room. The force field came down and Cyborg shined his light where the voices had come from just in time to see a dark figure leap out of the tower. One down, one to go.

“Well that was quite rude, Alice.”

Nightwing’s beam came down on a pile of broken glass. There was a grinning face clad in black in each one.

“Mirror Master.”

“Somebody give th’Boy Wonder a cigar. Ye found me. I’m almost surprised you knew who I was. Does the Bat really keep a list of all’a us or does the wee boy in the Flash suit talk about me behind me back?”

“What do you want?”

“Nothin, lad. Nothin a’tall. The queen didn’t say it was time to take off yer head yet, bu’ Shadow Thief and I just wanted t’let ye know that-- when she does?” The crook took his finger and traced a line across his neck, grinning all the while. “Ye won’t even see it comin’. Thanks for the stuff, by the way. I especially liked what I found under tha’ animal’s bed. Stormy Daniels. Ye’ve got good taste, lad. I’d vote for her if ye know wha’ I mean. Haw!” Then the image faded out of the glass.

The lights flickered and then came back on. Like the meeting room, the living room had been picked clean. No couches, no chairs, no TV, no stereo.

“Aww, man,” Beast Boy knelt down where the television had been. “I’m gonna miss it.”

“Who is Stormy Daniels?” Starfire asked, looking confused.

“A por-“

“Politician!” Gar interrupted. "A politician of whom I happen to be a, eh-- supporter."

There was a rumbling sound as a pillar of dirt rose into view and Tara jumped off it into the tower.

“Uh, hey guys. What the hell happened here? Spooky decide to take her cr#p out on the Tower this time?”

“Where have you been?” Raven asked in the most impolite tone she could muster.

“Waiting for you guys at the front door. Stupid tower wouldn’t let me in. I almost took a rock to window but - oh wait - I don’t attack things just because they bug me.”

“No, you just attack people when they’re in your way and let murderers escape from prison!”

“CUT IT OUT!” Nightwing shouted.

“Friends should not fight each other.” Kory looked worried. The Titans were just about the only friends she had ever really had and she didn’t like to see two people she liked so much at each other’s throats. Vic could relate to that. Most of his own friends hadn’t stuck around after the accident that had made him what he was. Their loss.

“Too bad Raven and I aren’t friends.”

“But you are teammates,” Dick said firmly. “And you will refrain from beating up and yelling at each other as long as you’re both here. In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve got something more important going on here. Now shut up and shake hands.”

The girls reluctantly did so. Terra muttered under her breath that this wasn’t over, just quiet enough that only Raven would have been able to hear her if not for Cyborg’s strong audio receptors. He planned to talk to Tara about it later. No need to tattle on the kid.

“Now hug,” Beast Boy commanded. “It’ll make you feel better. But it needs to be a nice, tight, lingering hug. Hold each other close... In fact-- hugs for everybody!” Gar jumped towards Starfire and wrapped two orangutan arms around her, making the princess smile again.

The moment was interrupted by a loud pounding sound coming from outside. The Titans rushed to the window to see Mammoth, a bearded giant of a man in black and yellow slamming a tree into the ground over and over. Behind him was his red haired sister, Shimmer, dressed like some Hot Topic reject and next to her… somebody Cyborg didn’t recognize; a young man in a red t-shirt, jeans and a pair of sunglasses.

“Hey, Titans!” Shimmer shouted. “The Fearsome Five want to know if you can come out to play!”

Mammoth threw the tree at the broken window but missed, embedding the tree into the tower a floor below.

“Bad aim and bad counting skills.” Gar laughed. “What do you expect from the Fearsome Thr…wait a sec.”

The new guy took a step forward, leaving an identical man where he had been a moment before. He did it again, leaving behind another duplicate.

“Hey what do you know? Now they have five.”

But Mammoth and Shimmer’s friend didn’t stop. He kept walking around, leaving clones of himself behind. The clones all headed for the Tower.

“Titans!” Nightwing shouted. “We can’t wait for that guy to multiply himself any further. Let’s take them!” Dick jumped from the balcony, firing his grappling hook behind him. Starfire followed, raining starbolts down among the villains.

“I coulda sworn he was gonna shout Titans together.”

“Well, maybe it loses its effect if we do it against these losers,” Cyborg shrugged. What could you do?

“Titans collectively!”

Of course Dear Brother. Faster than the eye could follow, Shimmer vanished and reappeared a step ahead of her brother. With a wave of her arm the table seemed to wave and quake until it turned into a glittering cloud of harmless, white gas.

Mammoth strode through the gas, smoke trailing his form, without stopping and picked up a grand piano, just beyond, like it was a cardboard box.

I love it when ya do that..!

A PLEASE next time brother or I will be doing it to you! Shimmer warned...

Mammoth blinked and shook his head.

Nightwing did a tripple summersault and came out with his arms outstretched. Kory grabbed his hands and flew forward towards the Fearsome...whole bunches.

Cyborg jumps down to join them and Dove flies in to catch him.

"Hey where did you come from?"

"The hospital. Need some help?"

"I wouldn't mind. Lets get these creeps!"

Raven teleports to a lower level of the tower without saying a word.

And who exactly is Stormy Daniels?

Yes. At this point, Scudder is dead/never exisited. Not sure which but its been McCulloch showing up in JLI as well.

Stormy Daniels is a porn star turned politician. Only I don't think she's ever actually been elected to anything.

Seeing Mammoth about to throw what was left of the piano at Nightwing, Starfire shot across the tower. "You will not hurt him!" Kory pushed her fist forward, launching a starbolt at the behemoth.

"Baran!" Shimmer shouted as her brother went flying backwards from the strength of the blast. Nightwing took the opportunity to hit her in the knee with one of his escrima sticks. It brought the villain to the ground for the moment but she was far from finished.
