Welcome to my comic-accurate theme team scenario thread!
At heart, I am a Heroclix player who gains the greatest pleasure in playing comic-accurate theme teams. I've recently gained an interest in developing scenarios based off of major comic book events. To me, these two components are what Heroclix is about. As more sets are released, the chances increase to field teams exactly as they appear in the comic books they are based on.
I do not begrudge those who use min/max teams and enjoy having your basic slobber knocker. I just have not found that to be quite as enjoyable as trying to create as many elements of the comics as possible.
This thread is the next step for me to find that enjoyment.
Before I start posting my scenarios, there are a few things I would like to explain. Especially in light of the responses I've seen as to what players want from scenario play.
If you don't want restrictive play, then this thread is probably not for you. Scenarios based on comicbook events require some limitations to help create (to the extent that is possible within the confines of the game) that comicbook-related experience.
As a result teams will be restricted, so that those in the storylines they stem from are represented.
These scenarios will be objective-based. Afterall, if you just want to fight until you see who is left standing, you have regualr clix play for that.
Typically, teams will be built based on keywords or team abilities. This helps to ensure that the appropriate teams are used. Sometimes, when full teams are not yet available, I may throw in some substitute teams so that players can run the scenario if they wish. My scenarios are not designed to have character substitutions, but what you do is up to you.
Specific Maps are listed as a recommendation. In some instances, I will try to lay out the landscape using certain maps. This is to try and represent locations which were key in the story. If you do not have any of the maps, have a better map to choose, or if a map is created which has the location, then use what you want.
Battlefield conditions may be required as part of the scenario, but only to help create the atmosphere of the story or of a location. Outside of that, feel free to add as you wish.
Feats, Special Objects, and Event dials may be listed as recommendations, requirements, or may be limited. These items will mostly be left up to you to incorporate as you wish.
Prerequisites, Special Rules, and Scenario Rules are not optional. These are the heart of the scenario and should be followed.
Figure Specific Rules are optional, in the sense that is the figure of figures mentioned are not used, then the rules do not apply.
Time limits are mentioned, because I am trying to look at this from a tournament perspective as well. However, I may also restrict things within a certain timeframe, to allow the scenario to develop.
What I am trying to do is pull the important aspects of the storylines out and place them into the game. So my rules are based off of that train of thought. I will try to post why certain things are as they are.
I welcome constructive criticism, suggestions, and reminders of other elements of the story I may have missed. Most importantly, have fun and use these more as a frame work for your own fun.
I'll be posting my first scenario shortly. Happy Clixing!
1/6th of the Brothers Prob. '19-'20 Season: 15-13(8 events) 2 wins, 2nd XDPS PR 9-7, 7th SOC
Without warning or apparent reason, the Morlocks living in the abandoned subway tunnels below New York are slaughtered by the Marauders. The X-Men, X-Factor and some other heroes try to help, but they are only able to rescue a few and have casualties among their ranks as well. (Uncanny X-Men.net, 2009)
Objective:
The X-Men must save as many Morlocks as possible.
The Marauders must KO as many Morlocks as possible.
Prerequisites:
Team 1: Keywords - X-Men, X-Factor, New Mutants and/or Power Pack (Henceforth referred to as “X-Men”).
Team 2: Keyword - Marauders
Note: Until sufficient figures with the Marauder keyword are made, figures with the “Hellfire Club” or “Brotherhood of Mutants” keywords can be substituted for Marauders.
Maps (use four maps): Hypertime: The Offices Indoor (Morlock Tunnels), Danger Room: Institute Outdoor, Avengers Mansion Indoor (Xavier’s School), Danger Room Indoor (Infirmary).
Note: If you do not have any or all of these maps, be sure to use a combination of maps that creates this type of landscape. The Morlock Tunnels should be on the opposite end of the Infirmary, and the maps should be placed end to end in an indoor, outdoor, indoor, indoor pattern. This will help create a likeness of the areas where the storyline took place.
Battle Field Conditions: Darkness or Deep Shadows (based on player agreement). The Battle Field condition only applies to the map designated as the Morlock Tunnels.
Feats: Optional based on player agreement prior to beginning of game.
Special Objects: Optional based on player agreement prior to beginning of game. If possible use 2 Teleport Pad special objects and place them within 8 squares of one another.
Event Dials: Only the Mutant Massacre event dial may be used, but only if players agree to its use prior to beginning the game.
Point Total: Players must agree on a point total prior to the beginning of the game. For figures with the Morlock keyword, the point total should be no less that one and a half times the amount agreed upon. (so in a 300 point game, the Morlock total should 450 points).
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Special Rules:
All X-Men have the following Traits:
Carry Ability: All X-Men have the ability to carry a Morlock regardless of their speed type, as long as the Morlock is adjacent to the X-Men figure. X-Men may not carry figures friendly to them or opponent’s figures. Grounded X-Men figures cannot attack an opposing character while carrying a Morlock, unless they have range; and then can only make a ranged attack. All other carrying rules apply as normal.
Defend: All X-Men have the Defend ability, as described in the PAC. This power may only be used, when an X-Men is adjacent to a Morlock, and the Morlock is the target of an attack and not being carried.
All Marauders have the following Traits:
Stealth
Release Ability: A Marauder may release a carried Morlock, by successfully attacking the X-Men carrying it. A successful attack deals no damage to the X-men figure, but does add an action token to the X-Men (Push damage is dealt normally, if a figure is given a second action token). The X-Men’s controller determines which adjacent square the released Morlock figure is placed in.
Morlocks
Players do not control the Morlocks. Morlocks cannot attack. If a Morlock is attacked, defensive abilities are used normally. If a defensive ability requires a player to roll die, then the X-Men player makes the roll.
Figure Specific Rules:
If Sabretooth and Wolverine are used, they are archenemies and follow the rules for archenemies.
If Rogue and Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde are used, Rogue is the target of an attack, and Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde is adjacent to Rogue, the X-Men’s controller may choose to have Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde be the target instead.
If Colossus, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, or Angel/Archangel are used, they are considered archenemies to all Marauders. If any of these characters are KO’ed, the Marauder’s controller is awarded double the characters’ point value.
If Blockbuster, Prism, or Riptide are used, they are considered archenemies to all X-Men. If any of these characters are KO’ed, then the X-Men’s controller is awarded double the characters’ point value.
If Thor is used, he is considered to have the X-Factor keyword, and only an Experienced or Rookie version of Thor may be used. Thor may carry Angel/Archangel after Angel/Archangel has been dealt damage. Thor and Blockbuster are archenemies and follow the rules for archenemies.
If Magik/Illyana Rasputin is used, she is considered to have the Boot Transport Speed. She can carry up to two X-men with the symbol, or up to 2 Morlocks. Release attempts may only be made when Magik is carrying Morlocks. Successful release attempts cause Magik to release all Morlocks she is carrying. If 2 Teleport Pad special objects are used, Magick/Illyana Rasputin may teleport from one Teleport Pad to another.
If Storm is used, only the experienced version of the Marvel Universe or Xplosion version may be used.
If Psylocke is used, she may not leave Xavier’s school.
If Sabretooth is used, he is the only Marauder who can enter Xavier’s School.
Moira McTaggert can be placed in the infirmary to add to the accuracy of the scenario.
Scenario Rules:
Players take turns placing the Morlock figures, following the rule for placing objects. All Morlocks must be placed within the map designated as the Morlock Tunnels.
The X-Men start on the map designated as Xavier’s School. Their starting area can be any of the three sides in Xavier’s School not touching the outdoor map.
The Marauders start on the outdoor map. Their starting area can be any of the two sides not touching the Morlock Tunnels map or Xavier's School map.
The X-Men must rescue as many Morlocks as they are able to and return them to the map designated as the infirmary. The infirmary is a safe zone, which no Marauder may enter.
The Marauders must KO as many Morlocks as they are able to.
X-Men and Marauders KO’ed before the 25- minute mark do not count towards victory points.
Morlocks point value counts towards victory points if they are rescued of KO’ed.
The team that scores the most points by either; rescuing or KO’ing Morlock figures and, eliminating figures off of the opposing force win the game.
Ok, first: I TOTALLY agree with you on this:

I think the same! you already know My Scenearios so for sure you know that.
But I'm curious. Are you not worry that this scenario can use for characters NOT in the storyline?
like you can see in my scenarios I'm very specific by what characters run (I know more than that since I put specific figures, but MY Objetive in my scenarios is to be ready to use: just add water! in that way you have the teams already build and just play).
In other hand, your kind of scenario give the change to EVERYBODY to have figs and variety to use in this scenarios so of course, it sound great fun too! I'm just curious of how upset or not you could be if people use characters not in the storyline you are showing in your scenario.
Also, you thought in do this scenarios in some kind of "portatil" way. Like a page with a cover or something? I do this in cards because I like to carry everywere and have it so fast to show to others so, maybe you can put this in a card big or small with some nice covers?
Ok now aboyut Muttant Massacre.... I NEVER read Mutan Massacre but I LOVE YOUR scenario!
this kind of scenario is so heroic and fun! and can be use for others scenarios were there is some captive people and heroes trying to rescue!
But looks more fun if the "cautive people" are actually heroes too like in this scenario (could be nice for a story of really young Teen Titans getting rescue by JLA mentors).
Had you see the guy who make lots of maps here? don't remember his name. but he did a map full of tunels that is awesome! I saved in the pc in small format of course, but you should check that.
also, it's not this contradicotory?:
"X-Men and Marauders KO’ed before the 25- minute mark do not count towards victory points."
"Winner: The team that scores the most points by either; rescuing or KO’ing Morlock figures and, eliminating figures off of the opposing force win the game."
also, another variaty could be if the Morlock are actually a team. (placed in the same way but with figs) and that team try to escape only.
I love your scenario, and I'll be running it soon. Thanks for taking the time to put such an in-depth comic-accurate theme together. I'll download this page to my 'puter and print it out.
I would leave rep, but I can't now since I repped you recently.
You and I play just like each other. I run scenarios like this on almost a weekly basis. Very cool to see actual themed scenarios being made.
Most of the venues I play at only change point totals: 500 points, 4 action. 1,000 points, 3 actions and blah blah blah. It gets boring seeing the same cheese-monkey munchkins play the same min / max teams week in and week out.
Again, thanks for your time to put so much thought into a scenario and sharing it with the rest of us.
Darth: nice write up, im looking forward to more of these!
Carlos: you get the chance, you should try to read that storyline. i fondly remember way back then, i actualy had me an x-men subscription at the time and was reading it as it came out each month.
Players will most likely use whoever they want, regardless of any rules stipulating who they are supposed to use. The only way they won't is if they are playing in a tournament that forces them to use specific figures, which may cause them to just skip the tournament altogether.
Your scenarios indicate figure specifications down to the level, which I do not see as a bad thing in the least. You view figures of characters as a representation of those characters during a specific time in their careers. But I can see how that might be too restrictive. I like to use versions of key characters that I like, and then fill the rest of the team in based on points, when I create a comic-accurate themed team.
For example:
If I'm creating Team 1 and X Y Z are my favorite characters, but the team also has A, B, C, & D; I will try to use my favorite versions ox X, Y, & Z that are true to the theme of the team, and then try to get A, B, C, & D on the team with the remaining points. I hope that makes sense.
Secondly, the biggest problem with this scenario is that the Marauders are missing the following characters in Heroclix:
Scalphunter
Scrambler
Blockbuster
Prism
Riptide
Malice (who did not have a noticeable role in the story).
So at this point, it is impossible to actually play this scenario out. Which is why I offered up the idea that Brotherhood, or Hellfire Club members can be substituted. Neither the Brotherhood or Hellfire Club were in the storyline. Magneto was Headmaster of Xavier's school at the time, and was responsible for the New Mutants. However, as they are also X-men enemies it seemed appropriate to sub them in to make use of the scenario.
If those missing Marauders were made, then I probably would have specified the figures needed for the scenario by listing them. And you can bet that I would only play this scenario using the figures involved in the storyline. But even then, I would not limit the figures based on specific version or expereince levels unless there was a specific reason to do so So instead I chose to use the appropriate keywords as the restriction.
As for why I specified which versions of Thor and Storm to use:
Storm was powerless during this time, so in this case using the E version from either Universe of Xplosion is accurate.
Thor was a bit more for game balance. No Marauder that I know will take many hits from any Thor figure and be around for long. The Marauders should not be tough figures for him to deal with, so having him decimate them early on, would not make for a fun scenario. But there are also storyline reasons why a lower expereinced Thor is appropriate.
Thor played a key role in rescuing Angel from the Marauders. But he was cursed by Hela, so that his bones were brittle and his injuries took longer to heal. Blockbuster was able to break his arm during their fight. So a weaker version could also represents Thor being strong, but more vulnerable to hits and injuries.

I'm just curious of how upset or not you could be if people use characters not in the storyline you are showing in your scenario.
No, it would not upset me. If players want to change the scenario, there is nothing I can do about it. I do think it would be their loss though, as the scenario incorporates elements from the actual story.

Also, you thought in do this scenarios in some kind of "portatil" way. Like a page with a cover or something? I do this in cards because I like to carry everywere and have it so fast to show to others so, maybe you can put this in a card big or small with some nice covers?
I suppose using a scenario binder would be how I would carry them around.

also, it's not this contradicotory?:
"X-Men and Marauders KO’ed before the 25- minute mark do not count towards victory points."
"Winner: The team that scores the most points by either; rescuing or KO’ing Morlock figures and, eliminating figures off of the opposing force win the game."
also, another variaty could be if the Morlock are actually a team. (placed in the same way but with figs) and that team try to escape only.
I can see how you may think that, but no it's not contradictory.
The thing about scenarios is that it's always much easier to wipe out the opposing player's team, than to play out the scenario. By denying players points for any figures they KO in the first half of the game, I think the focus of the scenario will be where it should be: rescuing or KO'ing Morlocks.
Then, after plenty of Morlocks have been rescued and/or KO'ed , the X-men and Marauders can turn their attention to one another.
This is also comic-accurate, btw. The Marauders were slaughtering Morlocks long before the X-Men, X-Factor, Power Pack, and Thor made it into the tunnels. Thor went to see what was going on, after being told by Puddlegup that something terrible was happening. The teams went in to rescue people, before they ran into the Marauders.
You should really read it. There is a trade and it's only missing the Daredevil issue, which is not essential, as it deals with a confrontation between Daredevil and Sabretooth, after Sabretooth escapes from Xavier's school.
I hope that helps! Thanks again!

Crisis on Infinite Earths: Scenario #1- The vibrational tuning fork.
Crisis on Infinite Earths: Scenario #1- The vibrational tuning fork.
A group of super-humans are gathered by the mysterious Monitor, are dispersed throughout space and time to help protect his tuning forks from the evil Shadow Demons.
Objective:
Monitor’s Team: Save the Monitor’s vibrational tuning fork from the Anti-Monitor’s Shadow Demons.
Shadow Demons: Destroy the Monitor’s vibrational tuning fork.
Prerequisites:
Team 1: Blue Beetle (Crisis or HT version), Geo-Force, Dr. Polaris, Sgt. Rock, Easy Company Soldier and/or medic (x 6 or 14)
Note: You can substitute Little Sure Shot and/or Four Eyes if you have them for 1 or 2 of the soldiers or medics, as they were identified in Crisis on Infinite Earths along with Easy Company soldiers Bulldozer, Wildman, Flower, and Jackie Johnson. Hot-Head, the Ice Cream Soldier, Zack, Long Round, Short Round, Canary, Farmer Boy, and Worry Wart were not necessarily identified in the story, but one panel appears to show more soldiers than the ones identified, and those 8 characters were Easy Company regulars.
Team 2: Shadow Demons
Note: You can substitute the Rookie or Experienced Shadow Thief from Origin, in place of Shadow Demons.
Map(s): Use two outdoor maps. Outdoor Map Pack Construction Site and Collateral Damage Junk Yard maps are recommended.
Battlefield Condition(s): Darkness (based on player agreement).
Feats: Optional based on player agreement.
Special Objects: Laser Turret and Kinetic Accelerator. Other objects based on player agreement.
Event Dial(s): Crisis on Infinite Earths: Pariah, based on player agreement.
Point total: Players must agree on a point total prior to the beginning of the game.
Time Limit: 50 mins.
Special Rules:
Figure-Specific Rules:
If Blue Beetle is used, he has the following Trait: When Blue Beetle takes damage from an attack performed by a Shadow Demon; Blue Beetle retaliates with a magical blast that does one click of penetrating damage to the attacker.
If Rookie or Experienced Shadow Thief is used in place of Shadow Demon, he loses all team abilities and their effects, as well as any keywords and gains the wing speed symbol.
Scenario:
Maps are set end to end to create one big playing surface.
Place a Colossal figure (Sentinel, Sinestro, Anti-Monitor, etc) in the center of the map. This figure is not controlled by any player and acts as the vibrational tuning fork. Set the figure’s dial to the starting point of the highest experience level. All defensive abilities that reduce or avoid damage act as normal, but no other powers and abilities may be used. The player who controls Team 1, also controls the defensive dial for the Colossal figure.
Set team 1 on one end of the map and set team 2 on the opposite end.
Team 1 is to protect the tuning fork by defeating the Shadow Demons.
Team 2 is to destroy the vibrational tuning fork by attacking it in the same manner used to attack opposing figures, while fending off Team 1.
First team to accomplish their objective wins the game.
All other Heroclix rules apply as normal.
Variations:
The Monitor sent out various teams to protect his vibrational tuning forks. When all figures are available, the following teams can replace Team 1 in this scenario (characters not yet represented in clix form are in parentheses) :
Team 1 A: E-2 Superman, Kamandi, Dawnstar, (King Solovar)
Team 1 B: Psycho Pirate, Obsidian, (Arion & Pariah were also with this group). Psycho Pirate is then abducted by the Anti-Monitor after attacking Pariah and Arion.
Team 1 C: Green Lantern (Jon Stewart), Cyborg, Psimon, Jonah Hex, (Firebrand, Scalphunter [Native American], Bat Lash, Nighthawk Johnny Thunder [Cowboys]).
Team 1 D: Firestorm, Killer Frost, Shining Knight (though the clix figure and the character in the story are different versions).
*If using Teams 1B and 1C, the “Shock the Turtle” scenario should be implemented. Both of these teams were in time periods which experienced the effects of the anti-matter wave. After each turn the second player takes, shrink the map by eliminating useable squares. Set markers on each of the map’s (2 maps count as one) four corners and move the markers in one square, in a diagonal direction, after the second player’s turn.
Areas outside of the markers are no longer useable, and are considered to be destroyed by the anti-matter wave. Figures caught on the same squares indicated to be on or outside of the markers are eliminated from the game, and count towards victory points. If the markers reach the tuning fork and destroy it, before either team is defeated, the game is considered a draw.

Thank you Carlos. It was a lot of fun to develop. I have 1 or 2 more Crisis related scenarios to make.
could be interesting to see the final Battle! I make a Scenario Card for my collection with all the characters confronting the Anti Monitor. Unfortunatelly I take that card scenario out of my collection when they make Kal-L a chase.

The final battle is on the agenda. As is the battle between the heroes and villains. Stay tuned!
