Would it be a good idea to have rules arbitration on Youtube?
Hi everyone,
I got to thinking... what if Wizkids had youtube video online for the purpose of explaining advanced rules or playing new event dials? all they would need is a green screen, some low grade video equipment, some merchandise, 2 players and a judge.
This would easily convey how to deal with situations involving rules clarification and event dial play. It would also give people an option to not print out a #%$^load of rules FAQ docs.
Please post your support below.

While it might be handy for some people's understanding, especially those who learn aurally instead of visually, it would still require FAQs and Errata documentation. I mean, unless they rule that the YouTube videos are official tournament/rules documents, and then you've just required every judge to have an internet capable mobile device...
TRADES. eBay.
An Admin told me that I'm "too smart" for Another Realm. I hold that as a standing order.
Yeah I would hate to subject it to the hecklers on YouTube. Videos on there own site if they want to get into that wouldn't be a bad idea. I know KrazyCP had done some instructional YouTube videos for clix. I wonder what kind of comments there were.
What if both could be required... some of the rulings that I've seen have had to be interpreted by people here on the realms to make any sense to me. Plus we might see more advanced event dial play if people got a better idea about how to play said event dial.
Some of the rules are difficult to put down but the actual playing is much easier once you know what you are doing... (infinity gauntlet, no mans land) some of this placement stuff can get mixed up from one event dial to another...
Seeing a proper game run would cut down on apprehension about event dials.
I am just trying to follow the old adage What you hear, you forget. What you see, you remember; but what you do, you understand and retain all three.
If I did these videos I would pattern the lesson using the rules of the great Fred Jones... ( when teaching show all work even to the point of rewriting the problem over again until the next new step is added. then repeat the process until the problem is done. )
Wizkids might have a better time attracting new clients if they had this kind of resource. Sadly a lot of people dont read very much.... even worse ... not fewer people have the patience for reading a rules manual.... so cmon Wizkids lets provide both.

If they do rule arbitration by video then people would complain that the rules are not done on video.
The rule book for Heroclix is rather short. There is a shorter rules sheet that was handed out to venues that is pretty good at getting things started. If people don't read very much, then nuts to them. If they are too lazy to read the rules then they are too lazy to play the game.

I think ultimately it would be a waste of time. The best way to learn the game is to play it with someone who knows the rules, not so much by watching it.

I believe the way to grow the game is to embrace the digital age. that and the fact that not every kid is going to be able to get a ride to go to the local comics shop on a whim tp go and hang out at a tourney... but they might have a friend their age and a computer.
Im not looking for something elaborate for the basics .... For the most part the majority of rulebook rules are in play during most games. that would leave stuff like giants, transporters, feat cards, event dial/ card interpretation special power wordings available for further instruction on the web.

I think doing rule arbitrator videos on YouTube would be a good idea as long as they put it on their own page and still provided a text version like a pdf as well for those who rather and better understand by reading. Videos with situations set up and shown while making the ruling would help people who don't understand as well by reading and any way to make as many people understand rulings as possible would be a positive despite all the YouTube idiots making comments not to mention that if we watched these videos enough to get it on the popular list you might even get some new players who thought it looked interesting in the video and decided to look more into the game.
If you support this idea please tell your friends to take a look and post their thoughts....
Insanity is the act of doing the same thing while expecting a different result. ... lets make sure the game stays alive this time.

Likewise not every kid is going to have access to a computer. The FF rulebook does an excellent job of explaning the rules.
If fans want to do it, I'm all for it. I just don't think Wizkids should invest any time or money in it.
I don't think it's a terrible idea.
Problem is it would be a bit time consuming to do it well.
I do video production, and it could be done "on the cheap" with Flip video or something similar.
But to do it well would require time - for both an RA (or similar authorized person) as well as for a video producer.
Time = Money
Making it happen would require an investment on NECA's part, the size of which would depend on the quality they wanted.
Based on the time and care they are putting into the new website, my impression is they want to do things well and not fast.
It could be done. Heck, I could help! But then again, do you really want to SEE and HEAR Norm?

Video examples of rules and how to arbitrate them?
Sure, no problem. Similar to the line of fire vids, I loved those!
Videos that detail how the rules are, with no actual documentation?
Girl, you crazy!
I really liked those "line of fire" ones myself. I learn things a lot easier visually and seeing examples is never a bad idea. Definitely gets my approval!
