Bruce Wayne Returns
In April
Published: 12/10/2009 02:01am
Characters, especially long-running franchises, rarely stay dead in comics so it’s no surprise that Bruce Wayne will be returning as the secret identity of Batman in Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne, a six-issue miniseries launching in April. DC revealed the new series on its blog, and writer Grant Morrison promoted it with an interview with USA Today on Wednesday.
Design sketches by Andy Kubert are included in the DC blog post; Morrison told USA Today that a different artist will pencil each issue, with Chris Sprouse handling art on the first issue and Frazer Irving likely to do the second issue.
According to Morrison in the interview, “the status quo of the Batman universe will be changed forever after this book:’
Personnally I'm looking forward to this so Nightwing can return.

im confused though. he is stuck in the past right?
but his skeleton is in blackest night ( really lame to get resurrected just to throw a few bat-a-rangs and then be put back to rest). so how is that weirdo morrision going to explain this?
im sure its a safe bet, it wont make sense.

The purpose of his role in Blackest Night was to establish an emotional connection with as many characters as possible, and he did that very well.
As for where he is, and what Morrison will do with him...I don't even want to know anymore.

Heck no. At least they didn't drag it out like Steve Rogers (I know, people liked Captain Bucky. That's cool...but it was a guarantee Rogers was coming back).

Hasn't Morrison hurt Batman's status quo enough? Hasn't he realized that if he gets too radical, other writers will simply ignore what he was written? Like what he did to Joker?
Don't get me wrong, I've loved Tim as Red Robin, and Dick has been ok as Batman, but most of the other changes coming out of R.I.P. have not worked for me. I'm glad Bruce is coming back, but I do not like the sound of "Status quo changing forever."
If Tim doesn't have any part in bringing Bruce back, I will be very unhappy with Morrison, more so than I already am. The character development that has been happening with Tim is really really cool, and if anything, shows that a few years down the road, Tim is the one who would be best suited for the mantle of the Bat. If Bruce comes back, and it isn't a direct result of what Tim has been doing, and will be doing, the entire Red Robin series, which I again say has been awesome, might as well have been done for nothing.

I've heard really good things about Red Robin. I also agree fully with what you've said. As such, count on us both ending up disappointed, I'm sure.

The character portrayal of Tim has just been great.
The only one I would have trusted to handle Bruce Wayne's death and resurrection is Paul Dini. No one does Gotham like Dini. Only problem is, Dini is so good a writer, with such a great respect for continuity, he actually came up with a way to keep Morrison's Joker cannon while all the stuff that happened with standard Joker after R.I.P. also happened. And it pisses me off, because Gotham City Sirens is a good read, but it also makes sure that we can't forget about the stupidity that was R.I.P.
If the return of Bruce has anything to do with Red Robin, then that book needs to kick it into high gear. It's playing around with Ra's too much and establishing villians that don't need to be in that book. It feels too much like the old Robin series. I want him to get on with the hunt for Bruce already. He only has until April and then his status quo will probably change also.

One more issue, and then Tim returns to Gotham. And really, if the book were just Tim's hunt for Bruce, it would really be the hunt for Booster Gold.
"Bruce is lost in time, and carbon dating puts him at this location at roughly this period."
"Well, lets go to the vanishing point at check out that area at that time. yep, there he is. Into the time sphere we do."
"Hi Tim. Hi Booster."
"Hi Bruce."
That's one issue, two tops. If Tim didn't get side-tracked by villains and crisis, A. He wouldn't be Tim Drake. B. It would be a very good book.
Tim needs to struggle to get Bruce back, and I would love to see him be the one to rescue him, or at least convince others that Bruce is alive, and to lead them to him.
