This morning on DCU Blog The Source, DC Entertainment "kicked off 2010 with some major news." The follow-up to Blackest Night, as some deduced, is simply called Brightest Day.
Starting in April (just after the conclusion of Blackest Night in March) with an issue #0, the series will be 26 issues long and ship biweekly. Writers Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi, who currently write the two Green Lantern series, will be writing the new book. Fernando Pasarin will do the art for issue #0, but no regular artist was announced on the main series as yet; it will however have multiple art teams to facilitate the every-other-week schedule. It was heavily implied that Johns and Tomasi will also continue writing Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps, respectively, and that both books will tie-in to the series.
More news on Brightest Day will be coming later today. This also kicks off another week of DCU Announcements, so stay tuned all week long for more on DCU 2010.
MORE INFO released later:
Update 1: 11am EST: Other titles will launch under the "Brightest Day" Banner, the first of which is The Flash, the already-announced series starring Barry Allen and from the creative team of Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul. A full Cover for The Flash #1 is in the viewer to the right. More to come shortly!
Update 2: 12pm EST: The Source just keeps pumping out more information today, about "Brightest Day" as an initiative, not just a book. Titans will be seeing a relaunch under the banner, with a new direction and new creative team, as well. Eric Wallace and Fabrizio Fiorentino will be the new writer and artist, respectively, starting with Titans: Villains for Hire Special. The team will now be lead by classic Titans enemy Deathstroke the Terminator, and feature Tattooed Man and Cheshire, amongst other unnamed villains on the squad.
Update 3: 1pm EST: DC is bringing Justice League of America under the "Brightest Day" banner, starting with April's issue #44. A bright indeed character is featured on the cover, along with the Justice Society of America, marking the new teams' first team-up. Also of note is Jesse Quick appearing in her new speedster costume, straight out of The Flash: Rebirth #5.
Update 4: 3pm EST: For the final update of the day, David Finch, who recently signed an exclusive with DC Comics, was announced as the cover artist for Brightest Day. DCU Executive Editor Dan DiDio said of the artist's first announced gig for DC, "I see this as a wonderful way to have David touch on all aspects of the DCU, and it gives fans the chance to see his interpretation of the entire DCU and its characters." More announcements about "Brightest Day" and other DCU 2010 happenings throughout the week.
Well, I don't know about you....but this excites me immensely!!!
A year long bi weekly series that seems to focus on Green Lantern and its mythos (possibly the other corps), as well as the results of Blackest Night...also headed up by Johns and Tomasi ON TOP of their already excellent work in Green Lantern AND Green Lantern Corps?!?!?
AWESOME!!!! Can't wait!!!
I am speculating that the DC will have a lighter heroic age for a time due to the darkness they have been in!!

Yeah I just read this on Newsarama. Its great to see the dark times end in comics. (It looks like Marvel is doing the same with Seige). I guess I became a Green Lantern fan just in time to see the character rise to Big time status since Reborn.
Just to update what DC just posted: (Matt, maybe you want to put this in the OP.)

I'll get this book, but I'll have to figure out which titles to drop in its favor. Justice League, as mentioned, may be a casualty of "Brightest Day."

Considering that DC is also bringing back there "Who's Who" series this summer. I will be uping my DC titles by 2. Now who to get rid of?
Granted its just started but JSA All-Stars I'n not impressed with. GC Sirens is OK but not great. I've been losing interest in both of the Titans titles and my youngest isnt that interested in Supergirl anymore. So this gives me 5 titles I might drop.
Also helps that Marvel canceled one of my titles recently too. But I'm running out of patience with Marvel overall.
The biggest thing I hope DC doesnt do with this GL title is make it $3.99. I hope they keep it at $2.99.
it'll be about how T.O.Morrow finally brings the technology of cold fusion to the present and how it overloads ever light switch in the DC Universe and no one can shut off their lights for a period of 24 hours.
