Marvel Releases For The Week Of 01/17/2010 - 01/23/2010
:cross-eye
CAPTAIN AMERICA #602 - Two Americas - The deranged Cap of the 1950s has been busy building something since he got out of pocket when the Skull's plot fell apart. Can Steve and Bucky get it shut down before it takes root?
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #618 - The return of (a) Mysterio.
WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #4 - More on Mysterio.
AVENGERS VS AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 - In order to restore stability to time and space, the Agents seek out the Avengers! But what happens when the Avengers they reach are the original Avengers and they've never heard of any Agents of Atlas?
DARK AVENGERS #13 - Siege - Sentry goes nuts. Well, more nuts.
DARK WOLVERINE #82 - Siege - The siege of Asgard has begun and Daken battles the norse gods.
DEADPOOL MERC WITH A MOUTH #7 - Deadpool attempts to get the decapitated zombie head, aka Headpool, back to his home reality. Its alternate dimension-hopping. And the Deadpool Corps are coming. WARNING: art by Rob Liefeld.
DOCTOR VOODOO #4 - This series is ending with issue #5.
HULK #19 - The all new Frightful Four catches the Fantastic Four off guard and the only one on hand to help is the Red Hulk.
INCREDIBLE HERCULES #140 - Assault On New Olympus - Can Hercules, the Mighty Avengers, and the New Avengers overcome the infernal device that Hephaestus has unleashed to halt their advance?
SPIDER-WOMAN #5 - Jessica went off the grid to hunt for Skrulls and now that she's found them, only the New Avengers can bail her out.
THUNDERBOLTS #140 - The Thunderbolts/ Agents of Atlas battle gets real as a Thunderbolt falls just as Norman Osborn is about to call on them for what may be their final mission, the Siege of Asgard.
UNCANNY X-MEN #520 - A Predator X is stalking mutants, the island is sinking, and anti-mutant sentiment is rising again in California.
INCREDIBLE HULK #606 - The Wizard is moving against the FF and now Doctor Doom strikes at Bruce Banner! The good doctor may not have accounted for Skaar, but then again, maybe he very much has.
MIGHTY AVENGERS #33 - While the Mighty and Dark Avengers battle it out with each other and the Absorbing Man, Osborn comes closer to possessing a cosmic cube.
Well Dark Avengers was crazy this week. The Sentry is getting pretty damn scary.
My other pick, Thunderbolts, was good. Plenty of action, more characters moments, and a surprise death. Possibly one awol member, so the T-Bolts are under-manned. This book is one of my favorites, but I'm ready for Songbird to retake the title after Siege.
Nova continues to be a great book, full of crazy cosmically powered goodness. The heros finally learn why they are there. The Sphinx is dying, and time is faltering. He tried to fix it by using a younger version of himself. It didn't exactly work and now he needs the heros to fight off his younger self.

He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"

Did she pop up in the title this issue? Been wondering why we haven't seen more of her since she met up with Mach-1 and Fixer. Thought for sure with Siege coming up, she'd make some kind of overt move against Osborn.
Both Avengers, TBolts, Herc and Nova for me this week.
Well, as you can tell, there was nothing that could've been "bad" to me about this issue. I readily admit that even if it was "eight levels of awful- approaching level nine" I would've been just happy to see Mysterio back.
But I don't have to be that way because it was a great read.
First, I liked the character take. Mysterio can be a bit "cheesy" but I read it more as he's an attention ##### which I admit is backwards considering what he's doing. Everything has to be "drama-ed up" and he HAS TO take credit for his work int he end. And to that end, I think it's a perfect take. Also like the fact that we're basically going back and making Mysterio as the ultimate set-up guy.
I wonder if Slott knew that there are "professionals" in the real world that do this kind of thing or if it's just a niche that he thought would be a great re-entrance????
Second, loved the art. I'm not big on art as I've always loved a good story. Art is the accompaniment but I will echo others that I love Martin's style.
And ultimately I remember the days of the Rose and the Hobgoblin back in the 230's to the 290's. Gang Wars. All that stuff. And to that effect, it's about time.
And to see if it is actually Quentin back from the dead. Once again, Web #4 lends itself to an early dealing with a "demon".
Well done. Can't wait til' next week!
EDIT: Also, the return of one of Spidey's villians- Silvermane is back from the "dead". And Hammerhead has flipped sides to Mr. Negative so now he's torn...where does Hammerhead's allegiance lie now? And Mr. Negative has touched Aunt May, who basically chews out Peter for being so smart yet being a complete real life failure. OUCH!
Haven't read it. Unsure if I'm ready to start reading Cap again or not. I think Siege will decide it for me. If Steve comes back full time as Cap, I'll probably pick it back up.
What happened?

Nick Fury lets Bucky know that 50's Cap has popped up and is apparently leading some kind of militia made up of tea-baggers taking it to the next level up in Idaho. Bucky uses Falcon to facilitate his infiltration into said group.
Steve is only mentioned as taking some time with Sharon.

Hrmm...it depends on where he goes with it then. The Gitmo stuff really turned a lot of readers off last time, because it was such an overtly heavy handed story on it.
