I want to build an effective Xmen theme team will a decent amount of figures while staying true to most of the main roster. What do you think for 400 points?
M&M Beast 50
M&M Cyclops 50
M&M Marvel Girl 40
M&M Iceman 60
DR Colossus 60 + Streak of luck 5
DR Storm 40
FF Wolverine 71 + Automatic Regeneration 12+ Vampirism 12
400 on the nose.
Pros: TK, 7 figures, stealth/rce, incap, 3 PC
Cons: No outwit or perplex, short dials
I am content with the layout but would like some input
You've got the wrong points listed on Beast and Cyclops, but I think you are right on the total points anyway. I prefer the 31 point Jean Grey over Marvel Girl since it gives you a more pushable TK option.
If you drop her down to the Jean Grey model, that frees up 9 points. I would consider getting rid of either IceMan or Beast and adding E Shadowcat at 54 points for her Defend ability to help with all those lower DVs that rapidly deteriorate. Plus you can also use Shadowcat as a X-Men battery to keep another character like Storm on the right spot in the dial.

M&M Storm 100 + flashbang 3
FF wolverine 71 + auto regen 12 + alias 3
M&M Bishop 100 + Contingency Plan 12
(pog) Lila cheney 6
last but not least CT nightcrawler 83 + swing line 10
total points= 400 on the dot, we have a semi-perplexer, outwiter, and 2PCs
While it makes him more dangerous, FF Wolverine doesn't need both Auto Regen AND Vampirism. I'd take Vampirism off and add some points to your other X-characters (which are all fine to me, by the way). I would add Armor Piercing to either Storm or Cyclops, to get some better use out of their Energy Explosion.
Unstoppable is going to more effective on Colossus than Streak of Luck.
Everyone on this team, except for DR Storm and M&M Cyclops, need to be canned.
All these X-Men are weak. Who are they gonna kill dinging (hopefully) for two or one damage a piece? Everyone in HoT has invulnerability. A rookie swarm team like this will get picked off and become fodder asap. One or two damage and everybody is useless. FF Wolverine is not worth the points. Do you see how low his defense is? Anyone can and will hit him.
These are all support figures without anyone supporting them or anyone to support. Where is the perplex? Outwit? Prob Control? This team offers a tk and a running shot barrier. A swarm team such as this needs serious featage and perplex assistance. Playing without Perplex and Probability Control is bad news. These X-Men need some serious Value Boosting support.
Brilliant Tactician group perplex (+6 points with Coordination) is a MUST for any Mutant Swarm team. All these Mutants have low numbers and with this group perplex you can choose which Mutant needs what. Professor X has this ability and M&M Beast can be equipped with this as well. Any rookie can feel mighty and be a serious unsuspected threat after getting perplexed up twice.
DR Storm is great with the Spotter Feat. Its a 5 point feat that gives all friendly attackers +1 AV if she has a clear line of fire to the target. Spotter would increase attack values of Cyclops, Prof X, Emma, Storm, etc, while you are BT'ing up damage values. The feat only works on Storm's first click but the clix is kinda one trick pony anyways. Strive to keep her on her first click for as long as possible, X-Men TA healing back to it after pushing.
X-Men need Taxi's and TK moves. Most of the X-Men do NOT have move and attack abilities. DR Angel is AMAZING for flying in long distance or charging in while carrying a Tank or your primary damage source. Drop your X-Men behind Angel to protect from Outwit/Range and have them Charge (pickup an object) or Lunge (feat) around next turn.
Who is your primary damage source with the X-Men? Prof X's MC target attacking his own team? Colossus with an Object? Logan's BCFs? Running Shot from Bishop, Storm, or Cyke? Emma's CCE? (last one was a joke there). None of these figures are amazing stand alone damage dealers. Most importantly, NONE of these people have attacks higher then 10. Thor and the Asgardians all have 18 defenses. You need at least a 10 attack to feel optimistic about hitting them without using Prob.
I've had serious problems fighting with X-Men. Most the X-Men from M&M are just not that good. Archangel, Gambit, and Iceman are not worth 90 points. It's basically Prof X, Storm, Emma, Cyke, Bishop, Binary, Tessa, and DoFP Colonel Logan left to fill a tourney legal team. I'd recommend going for a mutant theme team instead. Add in Scarlet Witch for Prob, Black Tom for Outwit and Barrier, and Mastermind with Rookie Tessa for enchancement.
I switched over to playing the Avengers/Defenders months ago. I'll keep wishing for some quality mutants.

I play X-Men in the FLE league and I have to say that I completely agree with almost everything you said here. For the most part, X-Men are not a competitive team when you see what is out there for comparison. I would like to see a bunch of X-Men in the new Marvel set for this reason.
I have had some luck playing X-Men around the 600 point level. I find that at that point value, you can get an effective amount of support figs and actual attackers out there with feats that match okay.
Now that you told him what you wouldn't play in a 400 point X-Men team, what would you play in a 400 point X-Men team!
I'm fairly certain I wouldn't play a X-Men team in a restricted tourney. I grew up reading X-Men and but i just can't stand losing so much. I've won the past two Monday nights with Avengers/West Coast Avengers and Defenders.
If i do play in a restricted tourney, I'd play with a Mutant Keyword with a bunch of X-Men related clix.
Colonel Logan is by far my favorite mutant piece. He has great damage, decent attack numbers, quality defense numbers, and a gun. Most importantly, he works amazing with NUMEROUS feats and other Soldiers (Capt'n and Thing).
Feats for Colonel Logan
Vamprisism - to heal
Blood Oath - for + attack value
Lunge - for a mini charges
Book of Destiny - turn off outwit once, only on your first two clicks though
Inside Info - Mutant, Soldier, and Future - only use if you are expecting the first two keywords to be present
There are a few Stealth related feats but i prefer to TK or fly Wolvie in. The Stealth without leap/climb is slow and painful. He may never get to the fight and his 6 range attacks aren't all that damaging.
I do enjoy flying/TKing Logan up to the enemy, have two X-23s Leap/Climp up and park them on either side. Next turn drop a Smoke Cloud/Flashbang and push all three. Wolvie slices and X-23 dices. The ladies have small numbers. A Brilliant Tactician perplex (before dropping smoke cloud) would be greatly beneficial for that attack.
I get all sorts of nervous playing Xavier though. If you miss the map roll and you get stuck on an indoor map, its game over. I'd had some success TKing him around but I'd rather just park him on a roof and use that 12 range. Prof X and Storm work wonderfully with Coordination feat. Just park an X-Men or mutant in front of them and its an instant meat shield.
One of my big concerns about fighting with the X-Men, besides everyone's low attack values, is that they have FEW options going up against Stealth enemies. There have been numerous games where my Xavier and Ororo have been picked off by Stealth Range attacks. If you can't get your Logan to base your opponent fast enough or if there are simply too many Batmen allies, its game over fast and painful. The X-Men have no anti stealth snipers like Dr. Strange, Ahab, or HoT Captain America. Good god, i love that Captain America piece.
I'll go and figure out a decent restricted X-Men team but i've been trying for years. .
I'm going to concur with what others have posted; restricted X-Men is an incredibly difficult team to field. It's one of the few keywords where the new characters are outshined by their predecessors.
However, since the OP included a FF set piece, I'm going to conclude that it is an unrestricted build. Let me point you to my own personal favorite X-Man piece: V AW Banshee. Running shot 10 AV PB for 3 Dmg? Yes, please. Gives the X-Men some much-needed m&a. Downside? He's more fragile than a faberge egg, so you have to play him very carefully. Psylocke offers enhancement to help maximize his effectiveness. Labcoat beast offers the team BT. R IC Jeam grey is cheap pushable TK. U CT nightcrawler can cause problems when outfit with AP.
That all said, your best hope with the X-Men is to field a moderately competitive team. That keyword is lactose intolerant; it can't handle cheese. Mutant will serve you better. SR scarlet witch and Black Tom are excellent support figures and complement mutant teams well (don't forget Banshee has the mutant keyword too).
Sorry I can't be of more help; I grew up on the X-men and it's frustrating to play them in clix sometimes, although for some reason I keep trying.
I can't say i'd play this team in a tourney without practicing with it first
M&M Storm + Alias + Flashbang + Protected = 114
SN Rk Tessa + Suppressive Fire = 44
M&M Jean Grey = 90 (or Gambit but I'd rather use Jean)
Colonel Logan 70 with Sneak + Lunge, or Vampirism (to heal) or Blood Oath (for more AV), or Maneuver (to move opponents into your Range LoF)
X-23 = 35
Scarlet Witch (or another X-23) =35
This team suffers from the X-Men low attack value syndrome (I dunno. . is the danger room broken or something here?). I added in Scarlet Witch as an additional taxi, barrier, and most importantly Prob Control.
Storm, Logan, and Jean's first two clicks will be the primary damage for the team.
This Storm isn't outfitted to Armor Piercing double target Energy Explosion. Feel free to do that but I'd much rather do RCE damage to a single target.
Flashbang is for cover for Logan and X-23. Might be beneficial to just attack instead though.
Rookie Tessa is the secret weapon here. She starts off with Enhancement. Use this extra damage for Storm and Jean's attacks. The suppressive fire feat has 8 range, Tessa has 6. That should trip up somebody. Use the feat to keep anybody from shooting your Ladies in Range (like Ladies in Waiting. . get it? pun?). Keep pushing Suppressive Fire as needed until Logan and X-23 tie up the opponents range attackers. Tessa later gains Perplex and then Stealth Prob Control (Wanda will surely be dead by then). If shots go through, use Storm's Alias and Protected feats. The goal is to get Storm on RCE with Tessa supporting Enhancement or Perplex.
I'd use Jean for that Running Shot Psychic Blast or Mind Control and her outwit ability. Her dial, like most X-Men, crumbles fast. She basically has one or two serious attacks in her and then becomes a TK/Barrier support figure. Her 8 AV won't be useful until its clean up time. Feel free to pull her back until then. If Jean isn't working out, switch in Gambit/Emma Frost. If you drop Remy in hindering, everyone will be aiming at Storm though. .
Scarlet Witch will be somebody's taxi? Logan? She will be the Prob Control and Team Prob action giver. She'll need to be in LoF to Logan, Storm, and Jean which means she will be in range of your opponent as well. Which means she will get targeted and go down fast. Feel free to up the cheese factor when she's ko'ed by saying "wanda was just a red herring." oh the puns!
Nobody on this team is going to be doing serious damage on their own. The goal is to ding your opponents down until Wolvie starts slashing. If the Logan Clean Up Crew is working out well I'd add on a Vendetta feat. I'm always nervous using that feat because it makes the feated character more of a target but I guess drawing attention away from your Range X-Men is a good idea.
Storm could be replaced by Prof X, Charles Xavier, or Mastermind but i feel they all do less damage and have less move and attack abilities. You'll pick up leadership and/or perplex but you'll need to get some TK action in there.
This thread has been really useful for me. I was going to ask about the possibility of fielding a viable X-team. Despite the discouraging advice, I'd still like to try it, making use of the advice given here.
I've read that Colossus doesn't have a single good figure in Heroclix. He's my favorite character, so I was wondering what the best of the bad lot of Colossuses would be, because I intend to use him no matter how bad he is.

When I want to field Colossus, I usually go for the Danger Room version. He's good for his points, though nowhere near as powerful as he should be.
I love the newest version colosus but he is a bit pricey, at 158 points, i love the sinister wolverine, and i love Cable outwit and running shot and team Cable up with Deadpool for perplex so in deady pools perplex and cables outwit, and drop in fantomex wow nasty... (assuming its unrestricted)
