For one not everyone is coming back. Its very apparent that anyone who was disintegrated by a dual light beam will be toast. The black lanterns that made it to the arrival of the entity are the ones that returned, and for one I'm glad they returned martian manhunter and several others, since they had poorly written deaths, and unfortunatly unimportant reasons to die.
But your right for the most part, this series was made to adress the huge death toll and resurrection toll that had accumulated in comics. It looks like its goal, as stated in the conversation between barry and hal at the end, was to bring back certain characters, make the death problem apparent, and say from here out, there won't be any resurrections because Nekron will no longer allow such resurrections to occur.
Will they hold to that? its doubtful, but i hope so. From now on, it would be great if dead is dead in comics.
I think that people were expecting a big huge climax battle, but really what happened was the entity simply took away all the power foundations of the black hand and Neckron. I think this was a good choice, and made the ending more interesting for me. We had plenty of rainbow laserguns epic battles through the last ten issues of GL GLC and BN. So all in all, a good way to wrap it up.
####ity Ding Dong...so Everyone Who was dead is now a live.
The Entity is DC's Big ### Restart Button.
Essentially, that's the gist of Blackest Night. But not everyone came back, and I'm very excited to see who the new White Lanterns will be.
What's most disappointing though is that BN#8 pretty much forshadows who's going to be in the Brightest Day action pack. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong but I'm still ticked off with the Deputy Lanterns filling up the BN starter. Lame-sauce.
If anyone is curious ... Spoilers : Characters that have returned to life (for now) because of the entity and brightest day:
Martian Manhunter
Aquaman
Firestorm
Maxwell Lord
Digger (Capt Boomerang, Father)
Hawkman and Hawkgirl
Hawk
Jade
Professor Zoom
Osiris
Ice (it was unsure if she died when she shattered, but she's alive now)
Deadman
The Anti-Monitor
oh and the Black Hand is alive now too.
and anyone else?
We know Ralph and Sue Dibny will not come back according to the book.
Sinestro is no longer in control of the white entity.

Anyone who was alive and turned into a Black Lantern because they had been previously resurrected is still alive.
I found it a bit sad that Max Lord was able to so quickly override Guy's will.

Spoilers:
I hear you about that... The fact that it was so fleeting and quick of a timeframe that the deputies even had their rings really makes me wish that the starter would have been the original ring bearers even more now. I still like the starter, but thats how i felt when it came out, and i feel it now.
That leaves us to wonder who will be in the brightest day action pack...
Will it be white lanterns? or featured characters that have returned from the dead? Will it be the white lanterns shown in BN 8? or new ones... as the white power battery still lies in a crater on earth...
For the record the action pack would look like this if its from BN 8 :
White lanterns:
Superman (Kal-el)
Hal Jordan
Barry Allen
Wonder Woman
Kid Flash
Green Arrow
Superboy
Animal Man
Ice
Donna Troy
And that seems like too many repeats from the BN Starter... so I'm guessing it will be something else.

Reason: added corrected info from boy blunder :)

Animal Master.. was that really animal master?
Ice
And one other black haired woman..
not sure if its supposed to be wonder girl or what.

It was Animal Man, and the dark haired woman was Donna Tory.
Yeah, i think any JLI fans might have old feelings stirred up with maxwell's return.
Obviously they brought back two of Barry's rogues for Barry's book that is coming up, but I wonder why they decided to bring back Max Lord.
Does WonderWoman need a high profile badguy right now? I don't read WW, but if they wanted to give her series a push, Max Lord might bring a lot of readers to a book that is often overlooked by DC fans.
Ahh, thanks for the clarification boy blunder. I don't follow Animal Man, but i thought that's who that was, and Donna Troy looks so generic as a white lantern i could barely recognize her.
I didn't know about the new JLI book either. Thanks for the heads up :P.

Reason: forgot to add humourous smiley.
I'm pretty sure Superboy was back long before Blackest Night started, and not every dead character is back. It seems only the black lanterns in the area around the Entity were returned to life.
But it was an awesome issue, I loved both two page spreads, and *gasp* the four page spread too.

Yeah, you are right about superboy, i accidentally listed him in the returned to life list, instead of just the i'm a white lantern list. I'll go fix it. thanks for pointing it out.
And your right, the artwork in the spreads was nice.
