Simultaneously disappointed and relieved about Braniac/Luthor duo
So, the recently released image of the Braniac/Luthor duo has me both disappointed and relieved.
I'm disapointed that it's not the "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" team-up. That would have been a great figure. For the uninitiated, in what might be Alan Moore's greatest Superman story, Luthor seeks out the remnents of Braniac (similar to a JLU storyline), to find that only his robotic body faceplate remains (Superman destroyed the rest of the cold calculating Coluan along with his ship). The faceplate bonds itself to Luthor's skull, and the two proceed to terrorize the Man of Steel.
Given the "Sizzle Sheet" reveals, and all the set spoilers we've had so far, I almost thought B&B would have a "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" subset/mini-theme. Kryptonite Man, Metallo, Brainiac/Luthor duo - even the promise of generic Metallo Men was exciting. That said, with today's reveal it appears we're getting a more classic Brainiac/Luthor combo, and I'm a little relieved.
Why am I relieved? As much as I want a Brainiac/Luthor "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" figure, this combination of the two shouldn't be a duo figure. In the storyline, Brainiac basically hijacks Luthor's body leaving him in a babbling vegetative state, which is anything but duo-like. A duo would imply synergy from working together, but in this case, only Brainiac profited from the bond.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see this new duo, and I don't begrudge Wizkids for not making the "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" version in B&B, in fact I'm hopeful that we'll someday get that figure. I do hope Wizkids realizes the potential value of Elseworlds figures and the Green Lantern of Apokalips (Big Barda/Mr. Miracle duo) gives me hope that someday we'll see more alternate storyline versions of heroes and villains, like a Red Son Superman or another, updated Vampire Batman.

When I thought we might receive a "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" version of the Luthor/Brainiac team-up, I assumed "duo" was more in concept rather than mechanics. Because, yeah - making that character into a duo figure would be dumb.
At least this decision by Wizkids makes my wallet a bit happier.
I'm in Providence! I've been out of the hobby, but I'm looking for Saturday gaming. Send me a PM if you know the down-low!

I really, really, really wish there was a real-life situation where I could tell a large group of people, "YOU ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO SPEAK THE WORDS TO LIONEL RICHIE'S SONG, HELLO, AS YOU ARE INTIMIDATING PEOPLE."
Since I have work filters, is this really an April Fool's joke or can somebody post the images for those of us filtered?
Sorry, I tried but I couldn't get it to work correctly.
Someone will get the pic posted eventually, but rest assured in the meantime the pic does exist.
