$1.99 a comic sounds reasonable. I wonder how long until new weekly comics are released this way. Once that happens, comic shops will take a big hit. It'll probably take a few years, once the price of the ipad goes down and is half as common as a cell phone, but this is a huge step in that direction.

On that note, off to sell some comics!
Fixed it for you!
Sorry, I like the iPad idea... but if it had a little more "yes we shall compete with laptops directly" I would be far more enthused.

I don't think anything will truly ever "Replace" the value and aesthetic pleasure of actually holding and flipping through an actual comic book though. Also, nothing can EVER replace the smell of old comics. Any collector knows what I'm talking about.

I have a problem with spending $1.99 to digitally own a comic. As I get nothing tactile for my $2. I'd rather spend $3 for something I can hold, save, collect, and possible pass on.

That's how you feel but if kids are thinking more like my nephew these days, you may be in a minority. That kid would rather have everything on his hard drive/ipod than a physical copy of anything (Manga, DVD's, CD's). He tells me this is how all the kids are. He is in High School so it could just be in his school (The rest of the world hasn't quite opened up to him yet).
It is a completely alien concept to me but this won't be the last thing to make me feel old I'm sure!!

Almost every comic I purchase remains untouched once it rotates out of my spinner rack. (Yes, I own a spinner rack.)
End result... my $3 (or more) on each comic is a one-shot experience anyway. Cutting that price has a lot of appeal for me.
As for the Marvel app, I'm disappointed that they didn't connect it to Marvel Digital Comics. I bought a subscription for myself as a Christmas gift, and it's proven an incredible value. I'd be willing to pay a small premium for access on the iPad, but not a per-unit cost.
By "nephew", do you mean the kid you keep locked up in your basement?
And by "high school" do you mean the hours of Reading Rainbow you make him watch on DVD?
Firstly, the basement was flooded in the rain so I had to move him to the attic.
Secondly the reading rainbow DVD's could not be saved. Sorry I betrayed your trust by ruining the stuff I borrowed. I'll buy a new set and return them to you ASAP.

Hey, they made me watch hours of reading rainbow when I was in grade school, and I turned out just....<Tik>....<Tik>....FINE!

I felt the same way about buying albums so I can get the artwork/booklet/linernotes. Now I know that is not essential to listening and enjoying the music, but it does enhance the experience for me. I am slowing turning around though, as I begin to realize that the real-estate in my limited living space is becoming scarce. CDs and comics have much to do with that.

My money was there too. I've never preferred reading books in digital format over the physical, turnable, holdable pages. Goes for comics too. I just don't see any advantages that would make it worth it for me.

I do have to say that I bought my wife an E-Book for Christmas, and she is loving the hell out of it. She has downloaded about 100 books so far (Most of which she's already read)
It has seriously decreased the amount of trashy romance novels laying around my house and she couldn't be happier.
