LE Bruce Wayne’s Gains vs. AE Bruce Wayne and AE Batman

While his portfolio may be more capacious than a portable hole from my old AD&D days, LE Bruce’s list of increases is so miniscule that it could be tattooed on an ant’s hindquarters with room to spare. Bruce LE picks up three clicks of Mind Control. Say it with me, "Oooooo." This is to reflect, I assume, that he is a celebrity, and as such his fame grants him the power to hold sway over others in his immediate vicinity – in this case the default four (4) range instead of the doughnut printed on his base. And isn’t it just like those rich blighters? Never can deal with anything themselves, and as such Bruce LE has three (3) clicks of Mastermind so that he can pass along his damage to a bodyguard. Though at his point cost, fodder may be tough to find. In this set there is always the 19 point Golden Amazon of Baba-Yaga or whatever, but I would recommend going old school and crossing over into Marvel Land and digging out some Con Artists. Not for their trifling bit of Perplex mind you, but so that rather thematically Bruce LE could be surrounded by a bevy of bouncing blondes of a rather vacuous nature. Did you see that picture at the top? See? It totally works. There does, after all, have to be some fun in putting this dude on the map, because playing him is going to be like driving down 80 miles of bad Iowa gravel. Did I just tip my hand there?

After this, I’d probably want to forget I was Batman too.

Bruce LE’s Losses vs. AE Bruce Wayne and AE Batman

Bruce LE cannot turn into "NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA- NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-Batman!" Nor does he have any Outwit, Combat Reflexes, 10 attacks, an 11 attack, Perplex, all that Close Combat Expert, or the two (2) damage clicks either. No one is going to confuse Bruce LE with Bruce Lee any time soon. Neither a lover nor a fighter, Bruce LE just wants to “dazzle” folks at short range and pass the damage on to someone else for the duration of his short, three click lifespan. Whoopdeedoo.

Bruce LE vs. AE Bruce Wayne/Batman??
Just like Wonder Woman last week, Bruce and Bruce are completely different figures. One will not do when the other is needed. But the thing is, Bruce LE will never be needed. Ever. Seriously. Four (4) range Mind Control with a nine (9) attack, Mastermind and three lousy clicks of life? You’d think that even if Bruce had brainwashed himself into forgetting he was Batman he’d still be in good enough shape to have a little bit more stamina than that. Maybe it's the smokes as depicted above. Three clicks of life?!

But no. Bruce LE punishes us and he punishes us well. As DC fans we want to like him because he’s Bruce Wayne. How can you hate Bruce Wayne? He’s the goldarn Batman?! But here are the facts. Grant is buried in Grant’s tomb, some babies are ugly, Coke Classic is not the same as “old” Coke, if you have to ask “Does this make me look fat?” then you probably are fat, that pet dog didn’t really go to a farm where it could run free all day, and Bruce LE should not ever get played. Not even for fun. Because playing him would never be fun. Just like watching “Barney” or “The Wiggles” isn’t fun. Just like flossing with barbed wire after eating a slime-mold sandwich with battery acid sauce isn’t fun. Just like watching some inbred nitwit stomp all over your clix collection while chanting “Now who’s champeen? Now who’s champeen?” isn’t fun. Sadly, like Paris Hilton and many other so-called “celebrities”, Bruce LE has no purpose and is really best ignored until such time as he is completely forgotten. Then, once he is forgetten, should someone ever mention his existence, you must immediately remember to forget him again.

On the other hand, AE Bruce/Batman is actually a pretty decent deal for 48 points. As Bruce Wayne (AE), Outwit helps the team and a 10 attack with two damage could actually do something to the bad guys. Papa spank, indeed! Couple that with a 19 defense in close combat thanks to Combat Reflexes and he’s actually got a decent shot at surviving to spank again. Once he transforms in AE Batman, the attack jumps to 11 with Perplex and two (2) damage. Again, he's handing out the spankings. Then he’s on to Close Combat Expert and a 10 and some nines as attack values. Here again, he’s going to be able to spank a bit more before he goes down. With Stealth thanks to the Bats TA, he should be able to keep from getting lit up by most ranged attackers. For a few more points, one could argue that you should just field the full-calorie version of Batman for 74 points and that has considerable merit. However, if you’re looking for a bargain and are just curious enough to see how the AE mechanic works, AE Bruce Wayne/Batman is a great choice – and that’s my pick 100 out of 10 times.

The only thing that could make AE Batman better? If either his Exploit Weakness or Close Combat Expert was actually called “QUIET OR PAPA SPANK!”. That would be perfect, not to mention comic book accurate. No school like the old school.

Before we go, however, I submit the following in the interest of fairness to those who may feel that I’ve been too hard on Batman or cast him in an improper light.

Although! on his own i can really see almost no use for him... Feat him up? definately. 1 time use 8 range incap on a tiny figure might well come in handy with Starstruck Admirer, after all- Bruce LE is bound to get ignored.
Contingency Plan has better people to put it on, but not many cheaper in the Celebrity side, even Howard is 35 (and so much better...).

But the best thing i suppose you could do to improve him, is Compel. Free extra action for 1 damage, and you want to do it often to push this guy, hes got nothing else. Just need to get some lucky rolls,,, ugh.

I told my daughter our dog went tot he puppy farm. And I didn't know that was a standard answer.

I actually enjoy the Wiggles, but only because "Cold Spaghetti" was stuck in my head for months while I was working construction. None of the guys appreciated my singing that month.

And I really, really like mind control.

Again 100% on the money. When I won our local tournament a couple weeks ago I had choice of one of the 3 LE's. I was looking over the dials when suddenly I started shouting:
"MY eyes!! Agghh my eyes!!"
My buddy asked me what was wrong. I handed him the LE Bruce Wayne and said "Look at the dial man.."
He in turn began to scream about the pain in his eyes and what a bastard I was to make him look at something so horrible.
Good Lord does he Suck!!
The AE is way better and the 74 pt Bats ain't terrible but if I'm going to spend 70-80 pts I'm prolly gonna look to Iron Fist, Gamora or Nightwing First.

I disagree with the review for possibly the first time.

While the figure DOES suck, it's a 33 pt CELEBRITY. Useful for filling out a keyword team where you can't use, or don't have, any decent pogs.

Other than that...this LE is worthless.
